UNIT TITLE: The Way We Were


FOCUS: An introduction to Information Reports, focusing on grammar.

OUTLINE: An integrated unit focusing on H.S.I.E and English outcomes.


ABOUT THIS UNIT: It provides opportunities for students to explore the changes and continuities in the ways families have done things over time.

Students are given cut up sentences. They need to find another part of the sentence to join together.













Sit in a circle and give one person a noun. In turn around the circle, children add a descriptive word to the noun, then add on the previous ones.












Cut up a sentence and give each child a word for them to order. Then add descriptive words. Try to change the meaning of the sentence by changing positions of words.

Look at the cover of ‘My Place.” Can you see the six panels that show the important events in the family’s history?

- Divide the rectangle of paper into six equal parts

- Draw and colour a snake around the edge of the picture with pastels

- Use pastels to make patterns along the dividing lines between the boxes
