To write your paper:
(Introduction)-who, what, where, when, why) In 1692, in the village of Salem, Massachusetts, women and man were executed on charges of witchcraft. People who were friends began to accuse each other, knowing lives would be lost. This may seem strange for a Christian community, but there was superstition, religion and misogyny, which caused the hysteria that changed their world forever. (thesis statement)
(Paragraph 2) Every first sentence of a paragraph is a “baby” thesis statement

Superstition played a major role in the hysteria because many of the people truly believed in witches. For example, in Document C, from Cotton Mather’s MEMORABLE PROVIDENCES, RELATING TO WITCHCRAFTS AND POSSESSIONS (1689), he told the people that witches are real. (can you find a quote to put here? And can you give one or two more reasons and back them up? then end with concluding statement summarizing your reasons..)
(Paragraph 3) see how the topics follow the thesis statement?

Religion was also a factor in the hysteria because…..explain and back it up.
(Paragraph 4) Finally, misogyny played a major role in the hysteria because….explain and back it up with 2 or 3 reasons, end with a concluding statement.
(Paragraph 5) In conclusion, it seems superstition, jealousy and misogyny were the key reasons which caused the hysteria of the Salem Witchcraft Trials. (This is your chance to shine! Analyze and justify why you say this with your own thinking!) Then end it with a strong statement of you own too!
