Bishop Ronald Drake will officiate. Entombment will follow in Memory Gardens Memorial Park Mausoleum. Mrs. Ferris, 86, formerly of Medford, died Friday (June 26, 1998) in Snohomish WA. She had suffered several strokes recently. Memorial contributions may be made to the Southern Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Center, 228 N. Holly St, Medford OR 97501, or Hospice of Snohomish County, 2731 Wetmore, Suite 520, Everett WA 98201-3581. She was born Pearl Florence Cubberly on December 18, 1911 in Salt Lake City. The family moved to Los Angeles in 1920 where she graduated from Franklin High School in 1930. On February 27, 1932 in Ventura CA, she married William Sherman Ferris, who died in 1976. During the 1940s, they owned and operated Ferris Mortuary in Glendale CA, then in Vallejo CA, published the Vallejo Free Press. They lived in Santa Rosa and Petaluma CA before moving to Medford in 1950. In 1953 they founded and developed Memory Gardens Memorial Park, Inc, and constructed Memory Gardens Funeral Home in 1960. After her husband’s death, Mrs. Ferris became president of the corporation and was active in the business until it sold in 1987. The couple also developed and operated the Blue Spruce Mobile Estates in Medford. The couple enjoyed dancing and participated in exhibition dancing in both Medford and California. She enjoyed flower gardening and entertaining. Mrs. Ferris joined the Medford Crater Lions Club Auxiliary in 1951, then was a charter member of the Medford Crater Lioness Club, holding several positions. Her volunteer work included many hours at the Lions Blind Center. A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, she was involved in its Relief Society and choir. When her health started failing, she moved to Washington in 1992, first to live with a son in Olumpia, then with a daughter in Snohomish. Survivors include two sons, Paul (Medford), Clair (Olympia); three daughters Audrey Nielsen (Hillsboro), Katherine Marshall (SLC), and Sharon Robison (Snohomish); a sister, Emily Reed, Santa Rosa; 22 grandchildren, and 35 great-grandchildren. A son, two brothers, and seven sisters preceded her in death. Born to them were:

Born November 22, 1913 in Salt Lake City, daughter of William Sherman Ferris, Sr., and Grace Leola Scott Ferris; married Sterling King Hixon September 21, 1937 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Ellen was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Her family and home were her most important concerns and occupied her great efforts. She was a good student and excelled in sports, especially baseball, hurdling, and skating. She enjoyed dancing (winning a coral necklace in competition), painting, yard work, gardening, sewing (receiving blue ribbons in both Idaho and Utah State Fairs) and crafts of all kinds - hammers and nails were some of her most important tools. She attended beauty college, working at ZCMI and The Paris Company department stores for 20 years. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving in many callings, including the stake Sunday School and stake Young Women’s presidency. Ellen and Sterling served a mission together in the Netherlands from 1985 to 1987. Survived by children, Richard Sterling Hixon (Luan), Judith Ellen Hixon Kuepper (Michael), Robert Lee Hixon (Shara), and Joan Hixon Tibbet (Alan); 22 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. Civil War Vet enlisted in Company B, 7th Michigan Cav and served 4y and was mustered out as Lieutenant at Camp Douglas UT; he returned to MI and went to Rawlins WY 1868; he became a hunter for P L Smith, who was under contract to provide game to Wells-Fargo Stage Co and the grading camps of the Union Pacific; he bought a ranch on the North Platte about 24 miles from Rawlins; developed a hotel in Rawlins and was involved in mining; and sheep ranching; member of Wyoming Territorial Legislative Assemblies 1873 and 1875 and a delegate to the Wyoming Constitutional Convention from Carbon Co; acquired sole ownership of the Ferris-Haggarty mine in the Grand Encampment copper mining district; married, April 5, 1875 in Eaton Rapids, as her 1st husband, Juliette ‘Julia’ Alspaugh Childs born February 25, 1853 Eaton Rapids, Eaton, MI and died 1931 Rawlins, Carbon, WY[dau of John & Amanda Minerva (Cole) Childs]; Julia was elected to the Board of Directors, Rawlins National Bank, in 1904; at the time of George’s death, plans had been made for the construction of his residence at 607 W Maple – the plans were carried out by his widow and she lived there 1903-34; following Julia’s death, the mansion declined over the years before turned into apartments and is now a restored B&B (Ferris Mansion); the house is alleged to be haunted by the ghost of their 7y old son, Cecil, who was accidently shot by one of his brothers who was playing with a loaded pistol. After passing one year there, he traveled through NY and OH, working at different points. In the summer of 1837, he made a journey south, and on account of the yellow fever epidemic, turned his steps northward, and arrived at Mount Clemens in the fall of that year. He read law in the office of Judge Thurston, with whom he entered in partnership for one year. He formed a partnership with R. P. Eldredge, which continued for 15y. Subsequently, he formed a partnership with Thomas M Crocker, which was observed for several years. He was appointed Postmaster at Mt Clemens under Harrison in 1840; elected prosecuting attorney; elected Senator and refused the appointment of Collector of Internal Revenue for the district; also nominated for Congress; married September 23, 1842 at Mt.
