For your honor’s civil rights project, you will choose to write about one of the following topics:


  1. The role of religion in the civil rights movement

  2. A case study of Jackie Robinson

  3. The most significant event of the movement

  4. A Case study of civil rights events today

Each choice will need to be written as a formal essay in MLA format. You will need to use at least 5 outside sources, 2 of which must be book sources. The other 3 sources may be anything you like as long as they are credible sources.


Requirements:

  • At least 2 full pages in length.

  • Must contain 8-10 in text references (quotes, block quotes, paraphrasing, rewording, etc…) cited in MLA format.

  • Must have a page number in the upper right hand corner starting on the second page at number 2.

  • Must have a proper heading at the top left of the paper.

  • Must have a title for the paper.

  • Must have a works cited page in MLA format.

  • Must show the whole writing process (includes an outline, rough draft, peer edit, and final draft)




  1. This choice will have you write an essay analyzing the role religion had in the civil rights movement. You should discuss the following things: How religion was the basis for the movement, how it was used throughout the struggle, religious leaders, how churches were utilized, and how the movement may not have worked without religion.




  1. This choice will ask you to complete a research paper on Jackie Robinson. You will be expected to explore his entire life and accomplishments. You should speak of how he influenced the civil rights movement, his time in the military, and how he struggled with racism (violent vs. non-violent). This paper should exceed the 2 page minimum requirement, as there is a lot of information about this man and his influence on civil rights.




  1. This choice asks you to justify an opinion. You will pick a civil rights event that you feel was the most important event in the movement and provide several reasons why. You will need to explain why the event was significant, how it affected life during the time it happened, and how it influenced our life today. You should explain the year it happened and the story and people behind the event in your paper as well. This choice will need to have a thesis statement included as it is your opinion and should be arguable.




  1. This choice will ask you to examine a current civil rights issue in our country today. This will be sort of an extended current events type of activity. You will select a case, topic, or event within the last 3 years to analyze and evaluate in a case study paper. You will need to write about the event, how it relates to the civil rights movement, and come up with a call to action to prevent further civil rights violations like the one in your event from happening again.
