16th October 2015
Nightingale First School
Over the half term holiday, we would like all children to take a selfie photograph of themselves doing something healthy, i.e. eating healthy, playing sport or anything else you can think of.
When your child has taken their selfie it will need to be uploaded to your child’s class page on the VLE.
We hope to enter these photographs into a local Sports Partnership competition, therefore please let us know if you are not happy for your child’s selfie to be included in the competition.
Community Open Day
This week on Tuesday 13th October we held our community open day for new prospective parents.
Year 2 children took the role of tour guides and everyone was impressed by their confidence as they showed visitors around.
100% of the evaluations stated that the day had been beneficial to them.
What parents visiting thought had been the most useful aspect of the session?
Hearing about the school from a child’s perspective. Meeting the headteacher and being able to ask questions.
Getting to see all of the school and seeing exactly what the reception classes are doing. They look very happy!
Talking to staff, open day photos and side show.
Poppies are being delivered to school next week. Please look out for the box which will be in school until Remembrance Sunday for you or your child to make a donation.
On Tuesday 20th October, Year 1 will be holding their ‘Superhero Convention’.
Year 1 children are invited to dress as a superhero for the day and use their super-senses to solve problems. If you do not have a costume you do not need to buy one, as we will have made capes and accessories for the day.
Please be advised that the artwork, order forms and payment need to be returned to the class teacher by Thursday 5th November - not Monday 19th November as previously advised.

We are pleased to announce that the ‘Friends’ have organised a textile collection with Bag2School in order to raise funds for the school.
By getting involved in our Bag2School collection, you have an opportunity to sort through your cupboards and wardrobes and donate unwanted textiles in the bag which will be provided – this can include adults’ and children’s clothes, shoes (tied together please), hats, belts, handbags and soft toys. Please note bedding, curtains, and household linen cannot be accepted. In addition to raising much needed funds it will also raise awareness amongst the children of the benefits of recycling and reuse.
If you fill the donation bag and still have more you can use any other bag to donate your items and don’t forget to ask grandparents, friends and neighbours to have a sort out as well!
Bag2School will be collecting from our school on Wednesday 12th November 2015. Please bring your bag (or bags!) to the school office and help us have a really good collection.
Many thanks indeed for helping us
