The Boston Tea Party
Colonists were mad about the taxes (extra money) they had to pay on things from England. So, the British tried to trick the colonists by saying that tea didn’t cost as much. The trick did not work and no one wanted to buy tea. In December 1773, a group of people dressed up like Native Americans and got on a ship that was carrying tea. The ship was in the Boston harbor. The people threw 342 chests of tea into the water. The king was very angry. He said no more ships could go into the harbor unless the people paid for the tea. The king and Parliament sent more soldiers to America.
They wanted to the soldiers to stay in people’s houses.
