Renaissance and Reformation Project

Mr. Mizell and Mr. Tubbs: 7th Grade Humanities

I: Decide what type of project you will create. Choose one of the three.

Choice 1: PowerPoint and Research Paper

The PowerPoint will include approximately 8 – 10 slides of written information. This does not include other sides devoted to pictures. The Mini Essay will be between 2-3 pages and will cover the main aspects of your topic and details that are not included in the PowerPoint. The paper should be setup in the traditional essay style with an introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. You will also need to include a Works Cited page where you list in MLA format the places you received your information. If you choose a person to research, the paper should follow the basic guideline for writing a biography. You should discuss the person’s major accomplishments, works, and how they related to the Renaissance (secularism, humanism, individualism, and realism).

Topics: Michelangelo William Shakespeare

the Medici Family Raphael and Donatello

Martin Luther and the Reformation The Black Death (Bubonic Plague)

King Henry VIII Queen Elizabeth I

Leonardo Da Vinci Erasmus and Thomas Moore

Technology of the Renaissance/Reformation

Architecture of the Renaissance (Brunelleschi and Andre Palladio)

Choice 2: Poems and Analysis

If you want to challenge yourself and do something more creative then this may be for you. Here is what is expected: (1) choose two poems to analyze from the Renaissance era from Shakespeare or Petrarch ( this will be your research component), (2) You are to write two poems, 14 or more lines each, and they should relate to one or more of the concepts of the Renaissance – Secularism, Realism, Individualism, or Humanism. Your poems should be typed, (3) Lastly, you will write a summary and analysis of the two poems you chose from the Renaissance and your own poems. You should explain why you chose those two poems from the Renaissance, what they are about, and how they relate to one or more of the Renaissance concepts. You will then explain what your two poems are about and how they relate to the Renaissance concepts. This should be 1 – 1 ½ pages, typed, 12 point font, and double spaced. You will also include a Works Cited page where you list in MLA format the places you received your information.

Choice 3: Artwork and Analysis

Here is what is expected: (1) choose two pieces of art (preferably paintings) to analyze from the Renaissance era (this will be your research component), (2) You are paint a picture that relates to the concepts of the Renaissance – Secularism, Realism, Individualism, or Humanism. Your art should not be on a regular sheet of paper but on canvas (this can be found at most art supply stores and should be around 18 x 24), (3) Lastly, you will write a summary and analysis of the two artworks you chose from the Renaissance and your own painting. You should explain why you chose those two paintings from the Renaissance, what they are about, and how they relate to one or more of the Renaissance concepts. You will then explain what your painting is about and how it relates to the Renaissance concepts. This should be 1 – 1 ½ pages, typed, 12 point font, and double spaced. You will also include a Works Cited page where you list in MLA format the places you received your information.
