As employee of government contractor, managed community relations and outreach for Region 5 of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency beginning in 1990. Serve as Project Manager for eight-site PCB cleanup action. Develop and administer $480,000 annual budget. Monitor expenses and provide EPA with monthly documentation and reports.
Administer public information center. Design, develop, and produce information materials including fact sheets, responsiveness summaries, public relations plans, and brochures. Prepare public service announcements and press releases. Respond to individual inquiries. Research and assess community concerns, and prepare and conduct public site tours, presentations, exhibits, and hearings in response. Office has been so successful that it has become the model for similar satellite offices throughout the nation.

Establish communication and maintain liaison with city officials, state legislators, members of Congress, the media, and a variety of governmental agencies. Provide technical support and write position papers for EPA Region 5 Project Manager/Engineer. Successfully established conflict resolution program with stakeholders.
Developed survey instrument used by Indiana University Center for Survey Research to conduct major telephone survey. Wrote up and published results as Public Perception at the Bloomington Sites (1992). Have written and presented four other papers related to public participation patterns at Superfund sites and to the public's perception of risk. Papers have subsequently been published in Proceedings of conferences.
Supervise as many as nine permanent and temporary employees. Oversee work of outside graphic designers and printing staff. Reduced costs while increasing staff size and productivity.
