Simulation Project: Rate the Presidents
(adopted from Eric Rothschild)
Historians love to engage is what has pretty much become a parlor game – rate the Presidents. In order to better understand U.S. History since 1945 we will rate the post-war presidents Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, G.H.W. Bush and Clinton on domestic and foreign policy and determine an overall ranking.
Each of you will be asked to make a 3-5 minute presentation on either their domestic or foreign policy. You will either support or challenge your chosen President’s policies. The dates of the simulation presentation are: Thursday, April 4 – Friday, April 12
Following the presentations, each student will be expected to write paper ranking the presidents’ domestic policy, foreign policy and overall ranking according their considered judgment. The paper will be before after the AP Exam – Friday, May 2, 2014. Late papers will lose 10 points per day.
Your paper should be typed, double-spaced, one-inch margins, 12 pt Times Roman font, and formatted as follows:
• Title page
• Presidential Policy Grid – significant events of presidency – an example of
each below (this is a list)
• Ranking by domestic policy (List 1 – 11)
• Ranking by foreign policy (List 1 – 11)
• Overall ranking (List 1 – 11)
• Explanation, analysis and support of overall ranking including an analysis of
