  1. Protests and controversies regarding American involvement in the war in Vietnam altered how the American masses viewed the office of the president and the American government.

  2. The controversy surrounding Nixon and his involvement in the Watergate scandal led to a crisis in confidence as well as a questioning of how the Constitution outlined presidential power and privilege.
