Notes on Polly Ann BATES: [13]

Polly was born in Kentucky About 1812. Alex B. Duncan may have had another brother John Duncan. Both are listed as executors of the Estate of Matthew Duncan. "Genealogical Notes from the Liberty Tribune"; October 21, 1846: Notice of final settlement - Estate of Matthew Duncan of Clay Co. Alex B. Duncan & John Duncan, Exrs., of last will and testament. Among the legatees of this will were Polly Ann Duncan, John Duncan, Rachel C. Buchanan, Elizabeth Vaughan and George B. Duncan. Polly Ann could be Polly BATES, wife of John B. Duncan. Rachel Buchanan is Rachel Duncan Buchanan, daughter of Matthew Duncan and Elizabeth Breckenridge, as is Elizabeth Vaughan, who is Elizabeth Duncan Vaughan. A third daughter, Magdalene Duncan, I believe predeceased her father (along with her husband, James BAXTER). John and Polly Ann Duncan apparently were caring for two of Magdalene's children, Elizabeth F. and Madeline, in 1850, as they were enumerated with John and Polly in the U.S. Census. Also living with them were Rachel Buchanan, apparently widowed, and her two children, Sarah and Stephen.
