Hello -

I came across your Shawhan site while doing a search on my surname. You're to be congratulated on an incredible site, I just hope mine can someday be that well organized and complete! My family bisects yours in just one place, Jerold Lee Shawhan (1928-97). His wife was my aunt, Edith Elaine Tinlin (born 26 Mar 1930 in Des Moines, Iowa, daughter of Andrew Tinlin and Edna Doris McGee). They married in Oct 1954, but I don't have the exact date. They were later divorced. Their one son, Brian Douglas Shawhan, was born 22 Sep 1955 in Iowa and died on 9 Jul 1996 in Hacienda Heights, California. He did not die in an auto accident as stated at your website, but rather at home in bed. It was some kind of illness, but I'm not sure what it was exactly.

Jerold Shawhan also adopted my aunt's son by a previous marriage, Scott Andrew Benshoof. His name was changed to Shawhan and he has three children who all use the name Shawhan. I'm not sure you'd be interested in them since they took the name by adoption, but I can give you more information if you are.

Best regards,

Bryan Tinlin

A twin to her brother, Bruce, Linda graduated from Washington Park High School in Racine, and has subsequently attended Gulf Coast Community College in Panama City, FL. Growing up, Linda did some babysitting, shoveled snow in the winter, and cut grass in the summer to make a little mad money. Since she had a twin brother, she had to do everything he did, except the paper route. As twins they always into trouble together. Instead of bringing flowers to their mother, from their garden, about 5 blocks away, they put little green grass snakes, worms, and crickets in their pockets and brought them to her. When they were about 4 years old, they received a new pair of shoes. While their Mom and Dad were busy unloading groceries from the car, she and Bruce decided to take their new shoes for a walk. Luckily, a neighbor was walking home from work and spotted them, holding hands and laughing, about a mile from home. Not long after that, they had gone down to a pond in the cemetery to catch pollywogs. Bruce slipped in (neither could swim) and the water was over his head. Linda tried everything to help, screaming and yelling -- luckily, their mother came running; by the time she got to the pond, a man had heard yelps and had jumped in the pool and pulled Bruce out -- they thanked their guardian angel. Currently, Linda works together with her at an Allstate Insurance Co. office in Panama City, Florida. She enjoys the nearby St. Andrew Bay Yacht Club, and has developed into avid, enthusiastic family researcher, stretching the phone lines across the USA in pursuit of additional information. She also acquired a computer genealogy program to better organize and control her findings. We are most indebted to Linda for the research she has contributed to this Shawhan Family History project.

While at the Citadel he played football; he remembers the coach telling them before one game that they had nothing to worry about as they were going to play a team whose starting quarterback was named Frances -- the Citadel lost, 70-6 -- the other team's quarterback was Fran Tarkington!
