James "Landon" Taylor II of Ocala, Fl. previously from Pike County, Ky. went home to be with his Heavenly Father on September 22, 2011.

He was born to Rush Bege and Carrie Jane McCoy Taylor, February 29, 1920 in Thomas, Ky.

Landon cherished his family and friends. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, walking and the outdoors. Landon was a World War II Army veteran serving in the ETO 3rd Army 178th Combat Engineers building Bailey Bridges crossing the Rhine River and placing wire to protect the infantrymen on the front lines in Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He received three bronze stars for his service to our nation. Thank you Dad for fighting for our freedom!

He dedicated his life to Jesus Christ and was baptized on the 3rd Saturday in May, 1954. In October of 1957, he became a Deacon at Big Branch serving as Clerk at Turkey Creek and Treasurer of the Sardis Association Old Regular Baptist Church. Thank you Dad, for showing us the way to heaven!

After 26 years service to Appalachian Regional Hospitals, Landon retired as a Printing Supervisor. Thank you Dad, for providing for your family! You were the very best husband and father. We will love you forever and always.

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Lakie Taylor of Ocala, Fl, Daughters; Lanise Weidle (Charles) of Middletown, OH and Loretta Leach (Doug) of Versailles, KY, Son; James Landon Taylor, III (Catherine) of Ocala, Fl, 8 Grandchildren and 14 Great Grandchildren; brothers. James Moses Taylor of Ironton, OH and Lloyd Taylor of Ft. Worth, TX.

Viewing will be at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home in Belfry, KY on Friday, September 30, 2011 from 6 till 8 PM. Funeral services will be at 3 PM Saturday, October 1, 2011 at the Big Branch Old Regular Baptist Church on Lower Brushy Creek, Ky. with a visitation one hour prior to service. Burial will follow in the Taylor Cemetery, Big Branch, Ky. with Belfry Chapter #141 DAV conducting Military Graveside Services. R. E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry is in charge of arrangements.

Frank Duncan Jr. 88, of Williamson, WV passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at the Appalachian Regional Hospital, South Williamson, Ky.

Frank was born August 6, 1923 at Allock, Ky. the son of the late Frank and Stella Brown Duncan. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Edith Duncan.

He was a retired airplane mechanic for the North American Rockwell Co., now owned by Boeing and a veteran of the United States Army.

Survivors include his two sons, Phillip D. Duncan of Belfry, Ky. and Frank Duncan of Aptos, California; two sisters, Mable Eaton of Florida and Katherine Anderson of Virginia and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 3, 2011 at 1 PM in the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Mark Helton officiating. Burial will follow in the Lenore Memorial Gardens, Lenore, WV with Belfry Chapter #141 D.A.V. conducting Military Graveside Services.

Visitation will be held from 12 Noon till time for the Funeral Services.

Lou Ellen Bunn, 78, of Canada, Kentucky, died Monday, October 3, 2011 in the South Williamson Appalachian Regional Hospital.

Born January 18, 1933 at Stone, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Fannie (Stanley) Coleman. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Thomas Bunn; daughter, Nancy Ruth Bunn; two brothers, Henry Smith and Phillip Stanley and one sister, Mary Jane Stanley.

She was a homemaker who loved to bake and cook for her family and friends. Lou Ellen was a member of the Bells of Joy United Baptist Church.

She is survived by three sons, William Thomas Bunn, Steven Michael Bunn and Charles Edward Bunn all of Baltimore, Md.; two daughters, Gloria Jean Reed of Radcliffe, Ky. and Mary Elizabeth Stanley of Canada, Kentucky; two sisters, Diana Rogers of Russell Springs, Ky. and Betty Varney of North Carolina; thirteen grandchildren; one great grandchild and a host of loving friends.

Funeral Services will be held 1 P.M. Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at R.E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel, Belfry Kentucky with Dennis Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Kentucky, with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held after 6 P.M. Tuesday evening with special services at 7 P.M.

James Leon Hatfield, 76, of Phelps, KY, passed away Tuesday October 4, 2011 at the Pikeville Medical Center.

He was born February 6, 1935 in Pike County, Ky. the son of the late Tomps and Annie Boyd Hatfield.

He was a loving Father, Grandfather and Brother and retired coal miner.

He is survived by two sons, Rocky T. (Judy) Hatfield of Phelps, Ky. and James R. (Teresa) Hatfield of Stone, Ky.; daughter, Delores (Eddie) Fugate of Hazard, Ky.; brothers, Delmer Hatfield of Ransom, Ky. and Ezra Hatfield of Belfry, Ky.; sisters, Bonita Bevins and Pauline Smith both of Ransom, Ky. and Cleo Woodword of Florida; grandchildren, Cheyann Hatfield, Daniel Hatfield, Shannon Dotson, Matthew Ellis, Tiffany Dotson, Christy Ann Wolford, Christina Faye Moore and Elizabeth Chanell Fugate and great grandchildren, Jadyian Almza and Elizabeth Faye Moore.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 7, 2011 at 11 AM at the Bluesprings Freewill Baptist Church with Emery Varney and Junior Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Family Cemetery, Middlefork of Blackberry, Ky. with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held after 6 PM Wednesday and Thursday at the Bluesprings Freewill Baptist Church with special services both nights at 7 PM.

Alma Jo "Dotson" Warren, 76, of Phelps, KY, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, October 10, 2011 in the Pikeville Medical Center surrounded by her family and friends after a long battle with ALS.alma jo warren.jpg

She was born September 1, 1935 at Phelps, Ky. the daughter of the late James E. and Sadie Sanders Dotson. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Geraldine Dotson Chambers and a grandson, Wesley Aaron Schwartz.

Jo was a member of the Pike County Democratic Women's Club, a volunteer for the American Heart Association and a member of the ALS Awareness Organization. She was a member of the Phelps First Baptist Church and was attending the First Baptist Church of Belfry with her daughter and family.

She is survived by her son, Wendell R. (Crystal) Schwartz of Phelps, Ky.; daughter, Lisa Jo Schwartz (Brian) Justice of Kimper, Ky.; sisters, Edith ("Fuzzy") Keesee of Phelps, Ky. and Bonnie Johnson of Lexington, Ky.; brother, Doug (Dru) Dotson of Phelps, Ky.; grandchildren, Lindsey Nicole and Wendy Rayshelle Schwartz and Scotty Brian and Jordan Keith Justice and a host of other loving family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Friday, October 14, 2011 at the First Baptist Church of Belfry with Mark Helton and Larry Rife officiating. Burial will follow in the Sanders Cemetery, Phelps, Ky. with Brian Justice, Chris Justice, Ron Keith Justice, Todd Chambers, Mark Chambers, Chris Watson, Jeff Watson and Derek Dotson serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Doug Dotson, "Fuzzy" Keesee, James Ollie Smith, Mike Russell, Tom Potter and Ashley Schwartz.

Visitation will be held after 6 PM on Wednesday and Thursday at the First Baptist Church of Belfry. Special services will be held both nights at 7 PM. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the ALS Association.

Adam Ray York, 22 of Hardy, Ky. passed away Thursday morning, October 13, 2011.adam ray york.jpg

He was born October 2, 1989 in Pikeville, Ky. the son of Chester Ray and Robin Jill Tackett York of Hardy, Ky.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Chester and Dollie York and Lewis and Grace Tackett.

He was a conductor for the Norfolk-Southern Railroad, a graduate of Belfry High School Class of 2008 and of the Church of God faith.

Other than his parents he is survived by two sisters, Tracie (Tommy) Hatfield of Forest Hills, Ky. and Jill (Curt) Elkins of Pinsonfork, Ky.; nieces, Madison Smith and Hannah Hatfield; nephew, Dalton Hatfield, very special great aunt, Edna Hatfield and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 2 PM in the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike York and Rev. Larry Tackett officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Ky. with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

She was born December 19, 1943 at Sidney, Ky. to the late Alvin Elvie Mullins and Martha Jane Blackburn Mullins.

She was a cafeteria worker at Food City and a member of the Toler Freewill Baptist Church.

She is survived by her brothers; Elvie Gene (Patsy) Mullins of Sidney, Ky. Donnie Ray Mullins of Huddy, Ky. Roger Lee (Debbie) Mullins of Sidney, Ky. and Ricky Dean (Nancy) Mullins of Sidney, Ky. niece; Marina K. (Jason) Runyon, nephews; Rod Mullins, Shawn Mullins, Ryan Mullins, Chris Mullins, Brandon Mullins and Richard Mullins, special friends; Gary and Mildred Scott, Paul and Gladys Scott, a host of great nieces and nephews and a host of loving family and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM Sunday October 16, 2011 at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home with Roger Mullins and Donnie Williamson officiating. Larry Edwin Crigger, 68, of Hardy, Kentucky, passed away at his residence, Friday, October 21, 2011.

Born April 4, 1943 at McAndrews, Kentucky, Larry was a son of the late Wilson and Freeda L. Crigger. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his baby sister, Lee Ann Crigger and his grandparents.

Larry was retired from ARH Healthcare, and was a member of the Church of God New World Ministries. He served his country with the United States Army. He loved his animals and wildlife "especially birds".

He is survived by his wife Judy Kay Lowe Crigger; one brother, Mayferd (Pam) Crigger of Dayton, Ohio; Special Friends, Mary Montgomery and Donn Blackburn: Mother-in-law, Edna Lowe Armstrong and Bill Armstrong of Rogersville, Tn.; Special Brother-in-law, James W. Lowe of Rogersville, Tn. host of nephews, nieces and friends. He has a special cat named Autumn that is going to miss him very much.

Graveside Services will be held 1 P.M. Monday, October 24, 2011 at the Highland Cemetery, Rogersville, Tn. with George Trent officiating. Burial will follow with Family and Friends serving as Pallbearers.

Visitation will be held Sunday Evening after 6 P.M. to 9 P.M. at the Rogers Funeral Home.

Gregory Dean "Joker" West, 49, of Burnwell, KY, passed away Sunday, October 23, 2011.gregory dean west.jpg

He was born March 13, 1962 in Williamson, WV the son of Paula West Oliva of Oviedo, Fl. and the late Jim Fannin. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Ireland and Minnie West and Ethel and James Fannin.

He was a disabled coal truck driver and of the Baptist faith.

Besides his Mother he is survived by his step father, Patrick Oliva of Oviedo, Fl.; three brothers, David (Lisa) Pimer, Robert (Michelle) Putt and Joey Fannin; sister, Beverly Holgate; aunts, Joyce (Ronnie) Booth, Shirley (Eugene) Dotson and Helen (Rick) Becker; uncle, Terry West; great uncle, Raymond West and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at 11 AM with Ed Lockard officiating. Burial will follow in the West, Layne and Chapman Cemetery, Stratton Fork, Canada, Ky. with David Pimer, Robert Putt, Joey Fannin, Terry West, Wes and Doyle serving as pallbearers.

Phyllis Ann Oliver, 59, of Belfry, KY, passed away Tuesday October 25, 2011 at South Williamson Appalachian Regional Hospital.

She was born June 5, 1952 at Matewan, W.V. to the late Delmer and Laurine Dotson Alley. She is also preceded in death by one son; David Oliver, and one sister; Dolly Raulerson.

She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church of Belfry.

She is survived by her husband; Dale L. Oliver Sr., daughters; Elizabeth Boyd of Belfry, Ky., and Melissa (Malcolm) Skeens of Canada, Ky. two sons; Dale (Lynn) Oliver of Lenore, W.V. and Danny (Erin) Oliver of Pinsonfork, Ky., four sisters; Jenny Horton of Belfry, Ky., Jan (Richard) Watson of Belfry, Ky., Ella (John) Hackney of McAndrews, Ky., and Suzie (Clifford) New of Louisa, Ky., three brothers; Larry Alley of Belfry, Ky., Robert (Pam) Alley of Belfry, Ky., and Jimmy (Crystal) Alley of Belfry, Ky., fifteen grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12 noon Friday October 28, 2011 at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home with Buddy Kendrick and others officiating. Burial will follow at Alley Cemetery, Ransom, Ky with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

She was born January 6, 1930 at Pinsonfork, Ky to the late General and Nancy Varney Chapman. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Orville Deskins; three brothers; James Chapman, Alvin Chapman and Don Chapman, and three sisters, Helen Chapman Johnson, Alma Chapman and Christlene Chapman.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Primitive Baptist Church.

She is survived by two sisters; Marie (Herbert) Thornbury of Canada, Ky, and Mable Donathan of Michigan, five brothers; Tom (Ruby) Chapman of Canada, Ky, Elster Chapman of Ohio, Denver (Anna) Chapman of Ohio, Doug (Flo) Chapman of Canada, Ky, and Dee (Jennie) Chapman of Indiana and a host of loving family and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 PM Sunday October 30, 2011 at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home with Randall Thornsbury, David Coleman Jr. and Others officiating. He was born January 10, 1929 in Pike County, Ky. the son of the late Stanley "Brushy" Lowe and Minnie Opal Varney Lowe. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Esta Loucille Webb Lowe; his second wife, Gertrude A. Lowe; sister, Nell Ruth Prater; brother, Thomas Beverly Lowe and one grandchild, Steven Thomas.

Bobby was retired from the N. & S. Railroad after 41 years and was a member of the Rogers Park Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include daughters, Sue (Joe) Curry and Patricia Ann Willingham all of Turkey Creek, Ky. and Tammy (Randy) Scott of Piedmont, SC; sons, Jimmy Dean Lowe of LaGrange, Ky. and Bobby Lindell Lowe of Sevierville, TN; step daughter, Clevetta Boyd of Langley, Ky.; daughter-in-law, Sherry Lowe of Turkey Creek, Ky.; sister, Mary Lou Thompson of Monroe, MI; ten grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; Special Friend, Louise Spradlin and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, November 6, 2011 in the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Mikie Smith officiating.

Charles Edward Johnson, 75, of South Williamson, KY, passed away Thursday evening, November 3, 2011 at his home.charles edward johnson.jpg

He was born February 23, 1936 in Knoxville, Tn. the son of the late Austin and Agnes Williams Johnson. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Austin Johnson Jr.

Charles was retired from the First National Bank of Williamson after 30 years of service. He was a former member of the Air Force National Guard, a member of the First Baptist Church of Belfry and he loved to travel and spend time with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife, Dr. Mary Ray Johnson; four sons, Dr. Chuck (Vicki) Johnson of South Williamson, Ky., Bryan (Rhonda) Johnson of Louisville, Ky., Shawn (Kelli) Johnson of Walton, Ky. and Bruce (Lisa) Johnson of Johnson City, Tn.; sister, Virginia Chesney of Knoxville, Tn.; eight grandchildren, Mary Beth Johnson, Katie Johnson, Chas Johnson, Courtney Johnson, Blair Johnson, Cooper Johnson, Lauren Johnson and Abby Johnson and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 6, 2011 at 2:30 PM at the First Baptist Church of Belfry with Brother Mark Helton and Brother Bob Norman officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, KY, with his sons and grandsons serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held at the First Baptist Church of Belfry from 6 till 9 PM on Saturday, November 5, 2011. Joyce Thacker Thornsbury Fleming, 78 of Lucasville, Ohio formerly of Canada, KY passed away Thursday evening, November 3, 2011 in the Hospice Medical Center, Portsmouth, Ohio.

She was born August 4, 1933 in Pike County, Ky. the daughter of the late Elder Joe and Ethel Fuller Thacker. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Claude V. Thornsbury and three brothers, J. B. Thacker, Harold Thacker and Clifford Thacker.

Joyce was a homemaker and a member of the Big Creek Primitive Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Sidney Fleming; three sons, Larry (Gaynelle) Thornsbury of Canada, Ky., Randal (Angelia) Thornsbury of Huddy, Ky. and Donnie Thornsbury of Canada, Ky.; one daughter, Lisa (Larry) Dotson of PawPaw, Ky.; four sisters, Hazel Sturgill, Dixie (Onis) Smith and Marie (John) Jacobs all of Canada, Ky. and Polly Ann Bishop of Michigan; nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 7, 2011 at 11 AM in the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Elders Paris Blackburn, Jimmy Lee Smith and David Allen Thacker officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Ky. with grandsons serving as pallbearers.

Edith Elkins, 91, of Rawl, West Virginia, passed away, Monday November 7, 2011 in the Appalachian Regional Hospital Skilled Nursing, in South Williamson, KY.

She was born August 20, 1919 at Aflex, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Oscar and Martha Taylor Elkins.

Edith is survived by three brothers, Chester Elkins of Rawl, West Virginia, Franklin Dee (Gay) Elkins of Orlando, Florida and Hubert (Bonnie) Elkins of Morgantown, West Virginia; two sisters, Zella Pigman of Rawl, West Virginia and Pearl (Paul) Brown of Lick Creek, West Virginia.

At her request, she is to be cremated. Memorial services will be scheduled at a later date.

Peggy Sue Collins Taylor, 58, of McAndrews, KY, passed away Thursday morning, November 17, 2011 at the Pikeville Medical Center.

She was born October 4, 1953 in Williamson, WV the daughter of the late Delbert Leonard and Hazel Stiltner Collins. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Freeman.

Peggy was a homemaker and also a member of the Mike's Branch Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband of almost 41 years, John Lewis Taylor of McAndrews, Ky. whom she married on January 22, 1970; two sons, James Leonard (Sherry) Taylor of McAndrews, Ky. and John Michael Taylor of the Home; two sisters, Shelia Douglas of Gainesville, FL and Deborah Scott of Lakeland, FL; four brothers, Gary Collins, Danny Collins and Dale Collins all of Gainesville, FL and Jackie Collins of Hickory, NC; two grandchildren, Megan Alise Taylor and Emily Paige Taylor and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 20, 2011 at 2 PM in the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with the ministers, David Parsley, James Orison and Shawn Slone officiating. Burial will follow in the Charlie Runyon Cemetery, Pinsonfork, Ky. with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

Judy Carol Ratliff, 62, of Chattaroy, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Friday November 18, 2011 at her residence.

She was born February 25, 1949 at Williamson, WV to the late Jimmy Floyd Bateman and Stella Agnus Fletcher Bateman. She was also preceded in death by her sisters; Betty Keaton, Mary Kirk and Barbara Bateman.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Chattaroy Church of God.

She is survived by her husband; Danny Ray Ratliff; son; Jimmy (Ruby) Ratliff of Chattaroy, WV, daughters; Nichole (Ricky) Starr of Chattaroy, WV, and Dana (Jerry) Blevins of Chattaroy, WV; sister, Janette (J.R.) O'Brien of Williamson, WV; grandchildren; Corey Blevins, Brooklyn Blevins, Kaley Ratliff, Madison Ratliff, Emilee Ratliff and Tyler Starr; great grandchild; Judy Kay Blevins, sisters-in-law; June Bowen, Sue Swain and Sarah Whitt all of Columbus, Ohio and a host of loving family and friends.
