Janice Lea Hager, 74, of Hardy, KY, passed away Friday, August 5, 2011 at the
Appalachian Regional Hospital, South Williamson, KY.

Born March 15, 1937 at Ransom, Kentucky, Janice was a daughter of the late Jesse and Hines Smith Hager. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three half brothers, Pierce Hager, Willie Jake Hager and Henry Hager; two half sisters, Ethel Jenkins and Marie Pompie; two sisters, Mary Ellen Hager and Myrul Hager; two brothers, Onis Hager and Burl Hager.

She is survived by one brother, Acie (Sharon) Hager of Hardy, Kentucky; two sisters, Annie Coleman of Huddy, Kentucky and Lois (Bob) Justice of Ransom, Kentucky; Caregiver and Niece, Pam Hager of Hardy, Kentucky; host of nieces and nephews and a host of loving friends.

Funeral Services will be held 1 P.M. Sunday, August 7, 2011 at the Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry, Kentucky with Lonnie Francis, Donnie Williamson and Earl Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in the Hager Cemetery, Ransom, Kentucky with nephews serving as Pallbearers. Visitation will be held Saturday Evening at Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry, Kentucky with special singing at 7 P.M.

Bud May, 94, of Canada, KY, passed away Saturday, August 6, 2011 at his residence.

He was born June 29, 1917 in Pike County, Ky to the late William Jefferson and Nancy Ball May. He is also preceded in death by his wife; Lear E. Williamson May, daughter; Rosemary Lynn (May) Varney, granddaughter; Danielle Lynn (Varney) Childers, daughter-in-law; Linda (Collins) May, brothers; Kelly May, Walter May, Willard May, William Jefferson May and Drury May, sisters; Pricy (May) Stanley and Maude (May) Gent.

He was a retired coal miner, a member of the Old Pond Primitive Baptist Church, a veteran of the U.S. Army in World War II and a Pearl Harbor survivor.

He is survived by four sons; Larry Neil May of Canada, KY, Ronald Bruce May of Canada, KY, Ricky Joe May of Canada, KY, and Chadwick Dwain May of Canada, KY, one brother; Harold May of Canada, KY, three sisters; Gertrude (May) Blackburn of Pinsonfork, KY, Ruth (May) Blackburn of Pinsonfork, KY, and Jeanette May of Pinsonfork, KY. Thirteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and a host of loving family and friends.

Visitation will be after 6 PM Monday night and Tuesday night at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home with special services both nights at 7 PM.

Funeral services will be at 11 AM Wednesday August 10, 2011 at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home with Raymond Stanley and Mike Elswick officiating. Burial will follow at the May Cemetery at Canada, KY with Grandsons serving as pallbearers. Belfry Chapter #141 will conduct graveside military service.

Jack Hubbard, 71, of Pinsonfork, KY, passed away Sunday, August 7, 2011 in Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington, WV.

He was born February 23, 1940 at McVeigh, Ky. the son of the late William Henry and Elkie Robinette Hubbard. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, David and James Hubbard and an infant sister, Gladys Hubbard.

He was a retired coal miner, member of the United Mine Workers of America and United States Army Veteran.

Survivors include two daughters, Rachel Hubbard Hodges of Hatfield, Ky. and Elka Jean Hubbard Goins of Radcliff, Ky.; brother, Sam (Kandie) Hubbard of Pinsonfork, Ky.; sisters, Jessie (Gene) Sensing of Pinsonfork, Ky., Ruth Nowacki of Roseville, MI, Sandy (Jerry) Brower of Lincolnton, NC, Henrietta Gilliland of Waynesville, NC, Patty (Jeff) Mullins of Salt Lick, Ky., Donna (Eddie) Hill of Ransom, Ky. and Johnna (Donald) Sansom of Red Jacket, WV; three grandchildren, Matthew Hubbard, Jordan Faith Hodges and Jonah Daniel Hodges and a host of family and friends.

He was born April 8, 1943 at Thacker, WV to the late Jessie James Hatfield Sr. and Dolly Ratliff Hatfield. He was also preceded in death by one brother; Tiny Hatfield.

He was a disabled coal miner, a member of the Stone Masonic Lodge #890 F & AM, the Shrine Club, U.M.W.A., the American Legion and a veteran of the US Marine Corps.

He is survived by his wife; Mary Ann Dotson Hatfield, daughter; Sherri (David) Harris of Canada, KY., sons; Michael (Wanda) Wells of Kimper, KY., and Jimmy (Tara) Wells of Wharncliffe, WV., sisters; Barbara Sue (Tom) Cummea of Polk City, Fl., and Bonnie (Bob) Mamo of Ashland, Ky. brothers; Larry (Linda) Hatfield of North Matewan, WV., MacArthur (Delores) Hatfield of McCarr, KY., and David (Ellen) Hatfield of South Williamson, KY., grandchildren; Nathan (Alisha) Harris of Kingsport, TN., Felicia Eldridge of NC., Kirstin Wells of NC., Terrance Wells of Blackberry, Ky., Joseph (Ashley) Wells of Pikeville, KY., Brandon Bragg of Wharncliffe, WV., Danah (Steven) Lovins of Wharncliffe, WV., Shauna Scaggs of Pikeville, KY., and Jessica Scaggs of Belfry, Ky., great grandchildren; Haley, Megan, Lindsey, Ryan, Sarah, Maikaila, Brenton and Brooklyn, and a host of nieces and nephews.

William Ersel Stanley, 83 of Hardy, KY, went home to be with the Lord on August 9, 2011 at his residence.stanley, william ersel.jpg

Ersel was born February 8, 1928 in Pike County, Ky. the son of the late Rev. Willie Stanley and Emma Scott Stanley. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ervil and Virgil Stanley and one sister, Birdie Anderson.

Ersel was a retired sales manager for Hatfield McCoy Ford and Superior Ford. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the Korean War and was also a member of the Toler Freewill Baptist Church.

Ersel is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ruth Stiltner Stanley of Hardy, Ky.; one son, William Joe (Katie) Stanley of Pikeville, Ky.; one daughter, Deborah E. (Michael) Stanley of Hardy, Ky.; three grandchildren, Joseph Stanley, Alyssa Stanley and Sidney Ratliff; one great grandchild, Isaiah Stanley and a host of loving friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 13, 2011 at 11 AM in the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Donnie Williamson officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Ky. with Paul Williamson, Dave Williamson, Earl Scott, Jackie Hatfield, Jimmie Hatfield, Ireland Smith, Paul Hall and Rodney Scott serving as pallbearers. Keri Ann Dotson, 34, of Bent Branch Road, Pikeville, KY, went home to be with her Lord Thursday, August 11, 2011 in the Pikeville Medical Center.

She was born July 26, 1977 at South Williamson, Ky. the daughter of David E. and Linda Smith Reed of Hardy, Ky.

Keri was an office manager for Johnson Law Firm, Pikeville, Ky., a member of the Williamson Area Church of Christ and a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, granddaughter and aunt.

She was preceded in death by her loving son, David Brody Dotson; grandparents, Anna Lee Smith, Laurine and Earl Reed.

Beside her parents, she is survived by her loving husband, Irv Dotson of Pikeville, Ky.; sons, Max Thomas and Samuel Lucas Dotson of the home; sister, Dana (Roger) Williamson of Huddy, Ky.; brother-in-law, Jim (Amybeth) Dotson of Lexington, Ky.; grandfather, Carl B. Smith of Turkey Creek, Ky.; nephews, Justin Ryan and Joshua David Williamson and nieces, Raeanna Drue and Carli Reese Dotson and a host of other family and friends.

Mart Thomas "Tommy" Smith, 20, of Sidney, KY passed away Thursday August 11, 2011 at the Appalachian Regional Hospital.

He was born December 5, 1990 at Pikeville, KY to the late Earnest Gillman Jr. and Wanda Smith of Sidney, KY. He is also preceded in death by grandparents; Earnest Gillman, Doris Gillman, Mart Thomas Smith, and Nola Gladys Smith., aunt; Patsy Young and uncle; Robert Smith.

Besides his mother, he is survived by two sisters; Rachel Williamson of Lenore, WV and Wanda Marie Morris of Hatfield, KY one brother; Daniel Williamson of Inez, KY., nieces and nephews; Chloe Morris, Bradyn Morris, Karmen Williamson, Trenton Williamson and Daniel Williamson Jr.,; aunts, Kathy May, Esther Gibson and Faye Murphy; uncle, Bobby May and cousins, Cathy Jo Daniels and Stephen Varney and a host of loving family and friends.

Funeral services will bo conducted at 11 AM Monday August 15, 2011 at the New Begining Church of God.. Burial will follow at Smith Family Cemetery, Sidney, Ky with Daniel Williamson, Billy Morris, Ronnie Ward, Sean Pyles, Stephen Varney and Larry Daniels serving as pallbearers.

He was born May 4, 1930 in Martin County, Ky. the son of the late Tom and Judie Howard Blackburn. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Lee, granddaughter, Kimberly Lee and brothers, Arnold and Tom Blackburn Jr.

He was a retired coal miner having worked for 42 years and a member of the Turkey Creek Old Regular Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Anna Kazzee Blackburn; two daughters, Diana Gail Deskins of Auxier, Ky. and Louella (Larry) Booth of Huntington, WV; son, Dennis (Ella) Blackburn of Turkey Creek, Ky; sister, Ora Robinson of Turkey Creek, Ky; brother, Lawyer Blackburn of Florida; son-in-law, Larry Lee of Turkey Creek, Ky.; nine grandchildren, Beverly (Doug) Hatfield, Kerri (Chuck) Hensley, John (Jesyka) Wagoner, Angela (Chris) Conley, A.J. (Brayley) Booth, Kayla Booth, Mary, Leigh Ann and Amber Blackburn and 12 great grandchildren.

Esther Hudson Thacker, 81 of Wellington, Ky. passed away Saturday, August 13, 2011 at her residence.

She was born October 21, 1929 in Charleston, SC the daughter of the late William and Esther Hecker. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Ryan Craig Muce.

Esther was a homemaker and a member of the Big Creek Primitive Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Roland T. Thacker; daughters, Judy Carol Taylor of Morehead, Ky. and JoAnn Meece of Morrow, Ohio; brother, William Hecker of Reno, Nevada; sister, Alice O'Neill of Davenport, FL; grandchildren, Donald Roland Meece and Travis Meece; great grandchildren, Ally Meece, Andrew Meece and Jonathan Meece and one great great grandchild, DeAnna Clemons.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at 1 PM at the Big Creek Primitive Baptist Church with Randall Thornsbury, David May and David Allen Thacker officiating. Burial will follow in the Thacker Cemetery, Canada, Ky. with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

Estaline Smith Williamson, 87, of Stone, KY, passed away Monday August 15, 2011 at Pikeville Medical Center.

She was born November 12, 1923 at Stone, KY to the late Willie A. Smith and Mary Smith Calhoun. She is also preceded in death by her husband; Oliver Glen Williamson, brothers; Willie Smith, Clarence Smith and Woody Smith.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Belfry Freewill Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son; Glen Dale Williamson and his wife Susan Williamson of Aston, PA. grandchildren; Anthony Dale Williamson and Dawn Williamson Brooks and great grandchildren; Dale James Brooks, Kristen Brooks and Nicole Williamson, sister; Kathleen Brown of Morehead, KY., brother; Ray Smith of Omaha, NE and a host of loving friends.

Memorial service will be conducted at 12 Noon Thursday August 18, 2011 at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home with Buddy Kendrick officiating.

Visitation will begin at 10 A.M. Thursday at the funeral home.

Virginia Lee Marcum, 78, of Belfry, KY, passed away Tuesday August 16, 2011 at her residence.

She was born July 2, 1933 at Williamson, WV to the late Michael and Clara Kostas Vary. She is also preceded in death by her husband; Tan Marcum, brother; Joe Vary, sisters; Rosa Wolford, Marie McCown, Pauline Staton and Helen Vary.

She was a Christian and a retired cook for McDonalds and Kings Restaurant.

She is survived by four daughters; Clara (Ronnie) Church of Huddy, Ky., Charlene (William) Keen of Inez, KY., Carlene (Leon) Sartin of Peebles, Oh., and Darlene (Danny) Coleman of Belfry, KY., two sons; Tanuel (Sandy) Marcum of Smyrna, TN., and Michael (Betty) Marcum of Murfreesboro, Tn., step daughter; Della Jean Knighten of Prestonsburg, KY., two step sons; Randall (Arlene) Marcum of Williamson, WV. and Gary Marcum of New Port News, VA., one sister; Violet Schrewsbury of Hobe Sound, FL., fourteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and a host of loving family and friends.

Jack May, 76, of McAndrews, KY, passed away Thursday August 18, 2011 at Pikeville Medical Center.

He was born June 4, 1935 at McAndrews, Ky., to the late Raab and Virginia May. He is also preceded in death by brothers; Harold May, Dover May, Woodrow May, Joe May and Jimmy Williams, sisters; Marie May and Delores Christian.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran and was an auto repairman doing body work.

He is survived by sons; Jack M. May of McAndrews, Ky., and James V. May of Ashland, Ky., daughters; Sondra S. Bowman of McAndrews, Ky., Teresa A. Ramey of Mouthcard, Ky., and Kimberly J. May of Pinsonfork, Ky. sister; Joey Ann Trout Johnson of Ypsilanti, Mi., fifteen grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and a host of friends and family.

Memorial services will be at 2 P.M. Sunday August 21, 2011 at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home with Bob Werntz officiating. Visitation will be after 1 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.

He was born December 15, 1937 in Pike County, Ky., to the late Arlin Stanley Sr. and Vina Viars Stanley. He is also preceded in death by one brother; Tommy Stanley.

He was a retired coal miner.

He is survived by two sons; James Edward (Effie) Stanley of Hardy, Ky., and Ricky (Easter) Stanley of Hardy, Ky., five daughters; Betty Sue Diener of Dayton, Ohio, Darlene (Paul) Young of Belfry, Ky., Nina Jean Cook of Fort Worth, Tx., Donna (Terry) Hurst of Morehead, Ky., and Melissa Gooslin of McCarr, Ky., brother; Jimmy Stanley of Hardy, Ky., three sisters; Betty Jean Cash of Alabama, Pat (Frank) Adkins of Texas and Brenda (Cliff) Everett of Texarkana Tx.; half sister, Kathy; twenty-four grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 A.M. Monday August 22, 2011 at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home with Mike Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Stanley-Stollings Cemetery, Hardy, Ky., with grandsons serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be after 6 PM Saturday and Sunday night at the funeral home.

Michael E. Moore, 58, of Taylorville, WV, passed away Thursday, August 18, 2011.michael moore.jpg

He was born August 23, 1952 in Pike County, Ky. the son of the late Ulyless Howard and Opal Cleo Spencer Moore. He was also preceded in death by his ex-wife, Deloris Moore, daughter, Rebecca Moore and brothers, Roger, Danny and Paul Moore.

He was a disabled coal miner and member of Local Union 1440.

Survivors include one daughter, Tonya Moore of Taylorville, WV; two sons, Ricky Lee Moore and Buster Chester (Fred) Mays of Merrimac, WV whom he raised; one sister, Opal Louise Slone of Coon Creek, Ky. and one grandson, Zachary Moore and a host of family and friends.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at 12 Noon at the New Vision Assembly of God Church at Hatfield Bottom with Ron Pruitt officiating.

Paul David Smith age 78, of Hardy, KY, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 22, 2011 at his home in Hardy.

Paul was born April 25, 1933 in Pike County, Ky. to the late Wilson and Estalene Smith. He was preceded in death by his wife Maxine Smith.

He is survived by his daughter, Pamela S. Maynard of Ransom, Ky.; son, Stephen D. Smith of Stone, Ky.; granddaughters, Brittany and Katie Maynard; grandson, Corey Smith; sister, Mary E. Vance and two brothers, Gary Smith and Jerry D. Smith.

Starting early around the age of 8, he began to develop his mastery skill of the fiddle. Self taught and reading no music he has played old-time folk music all his life. He is recognized by the Augusta Heritage Center as an Appalachian Master. Paul was named the worthy recipient of the prestigious Mike Seeger Annual National Folk Alliance Award in Memphis, Tennessee. Paul has also received the Appalachian Treasure Award from Kentucky Folk Arts Center and Kentucky Center for Traditional Music in Morehead, Ky. Paul was a renowned fiddler nationwide and had recently returned from a trip to Washington State where he taught his craft to others. Paul was also recognized as a Kentucky Colonel.

Funeral services will be Friday, August 26, 2011 at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home at 2 PM.

Visitation will be held Thursday, August 25, 2011 at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home from 6 PM till 9 PM. Pallbearers will be family and friends.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association.

He was born March 25, 1948 the son of Delores Blackburn May of Pikeville, Ky., and the late Charles Eugene May. He is also preceded in death by his son; James Harold May, grandparents; Ollie and Harvey May and T and Mary Blackburn and uncle; Doug Blackburn.

He was an ordained minister at the Canada Freewill Baptist Church, a retired coal miner, the Lead Diver for the Pike County Sheriff's Department Rescue Team and a volunteer Pike County Deputy Sheriff.

Besides his Mother, he is survived by his loving wife, Donna J. White May of Canada, Ky.; daughter, Lori May (Todd) Wheeler of Inez, Ky.; son, Jon May of Smyrna, TN.; sister, Debbi (Alan) Smith of Christiansburg, Va.; grandchildren, Jordan Ashton Wheeler, Victoria Noel Wheeler, Jenna May and Abby May and a host of loving family and friends.

She was born November 22, 1922 at Dix Fork, Ky. the daughter of the late Carl and Fannie Charles Smith. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Stacy; sisters, Emogene Abshire, Ora Smith Lewis and Marie Smith and brothers, Luther Smith and Irvin Smith.

Allene was a homemaker, a member of Belfry Chapter #141 DAV and she served proudly as a Seaman First Class with the United States Navy in World War II as a WAVE.

Survivors include her daughters, Brenda Stacy (Joseph Darryl) Bogar Sr. of Barboursville, WV and Patricia (Pat) Stacy of Hardy, Ky.; son, David Michael (Shirley Baldwin) Stacy of Belfry, Ky.; brother, Lester D. (Hazel Dibble) Smith of Gahanna, Ohio; five grandchildren, six great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 2, 2011 at 11 AM in the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Ed Lockard and others officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Ky. with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Belfry Chapter #141 will conduct Military Graveside Services.

Visitation will be held after 6 PM Thursday, September 1, 2011 in the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel.
