Born October 2, 1959, at South Williamson, Kentucky, Mark was a son of the late Christopher Alexander and Mattie Thigpen Alexander. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by one sister, Ann Marie Alexander.


Mark was a Music Teacher for Elementary and High School and of the Baptist Faith. He is survived by two brothers, Billy Ray Alexander of Williamson, West Virginia and Benny M. Alexander of Seattle, Washington; two sisters, Madeline Alexander of Williamson, West Virginia and Sharon Alexander of Huntington, West Virginia and a host of loving friends and family.


Funeral Services will be held 11 A.M. Friday, at R.E. Rogers Funeral Home, Belfry, Kentucky with Rev. Franklin Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. View Memory Gardens, Maher, West Virginia, with Guy Alexander, Bobby Joe Jackson, Verdelle Banks, Rev. Ricky Wilkerson, Rev. Charles Blackmon and John Fullen. The body will lie in state one hour prior to funeral services.

Roland Warren Aaron, 78, husband of the late Gathel Young Aaron, passed away Sunday, June 12, 2011 at the Candler Hospital in Savannah, Georgia, where he resided with his son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Christina Aaron. Formerly of South Williamson, Ky. and Shelby, NC, Roland will be missed by a countless number of friends and relatives.roland w aaron.jpg

Born September 15, 1932 in Westerly, West Virginia, Roland was the son of the late William Bradford Aaron and Ruth Childers Aaron. He was married to Gathel Young Aaron from 1951 until the time of her death in 2007 and their 56 year marriage was an example of love for everyone who knew them. He was employed as a yardman by Norfolk & Western Railway Company for thirty six years and a Korean War veteran of the US Air Force. Roland was a faithful member of Enon United Baptist Church of Blackberry City, WV. Those who knew and worked with him respected him for his generous spirit and his strong faith.

1 John 4:13-15 "This is how we know that we live in him and he in us; He has given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his son to be the Savior of the world. If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in him and he in God." Roland Warren Aaron made acknowledging Christ his daily bread.

In addition to his parents and wife, Roland was preceded in death by his oldest son, Roland Dean Aaron, daughter-in-law, Deborah Blackburn Aaron and brother, William Aaron. He is survived by his son, Wayne Bradford Aaron and wife, Christina of Savannah, Ga; siblings, Patsy Aaron Rhinehardt, Louise Aaron Ellis and James P. Aaron all of North Carolina; five grandchildren, Amanda Gauze, Jennifer Aaron, Amber Meeks, Deana Jade Rowland and Candice Aaron; and five great grandchildren, Kayla Gauze, Stephanie Gauze, Ruby Jada Gauze, Hayden Meeks and Heath Meeks.

The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 from 6 PM till 9 PM at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry, Ky. The funeral services will be held at 10 AM Thursday with Elder Jerry McCoy, pastor of Enon United Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Ky. Pallbearers are Charles E. Booth, Kevin E. Booth, Stephen Booth, Charles V. Stanley, Jr., Adam C. Ward, Mark Aaron, David Rowland, Matthew Meeks and Kevin Varney.

Anna Lou Gooslin Booth, 65, of McCarr, KY passed away Thursday, June 23, 2011 at her residence.anna lou booth.jpg

She was born July 7, 1945 at McCarr, Ky. the daughter of the late Douglas M. Gooslin Sr. and Cuzzie Wallace Gooslin. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Carlton Smith; brothers, Tommy and Winston Gooslin and sisters, Ruby Hardesty and Nina Musick. She was a former cashier for Food City, South Williamson, Ky.

Survivors include three sons, Brian (Tammy) Gooslin and Carl "Skeeter" Smith all of McCarr, Ky. and Craig "Thumper" (Randi) Smith of Nicholasville, Ky.; brothers, Douglas (Evelyn) Gooslin, Otis "PeeWee" (Melissa) Gooslin, Jimmy Gooslin and Gordon (Judy) Gooslin all of McCarr, Ky.; sisters, Glenna (Leslie) Hatfield, Bonnie Young, Nancy (Paul) Cisco, Jackie Hamby (Gene Kellione) and Donna Gooslin all of McCarr, Ky.; four grandchildren, Ryan K. Gooslin, Kayla A. Gooslin, Cody A. Smith and Ava Grace Smith; special friend, Ben Justice and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Sunday, June 26, 2011 at the Faith Mission Church, McCarr, Ky. with Jimmy Fields and Dwayne Chapman officiating. Burial will follow in the Sansom Cemetery, McCarr, Ky. with her nephews serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held after 6 PM Friday, June 24, 2011 at Faith Mission Church and Saturday with special services both nights at 7 PM.

Lon Chapman, 72, of Hardy, KY passed away Friday, June 24, 2011 at the Appalachian Regional Hospital, South Williamson, Ky.

He was born December 16, 1938 in Pike County, Ky. the son of the late Bud and Pluma Stanley Chapman. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Elaine Chapman Stanley; brothers, Mack and Rell Chapman and sisters, Blanche Tackett, Merle Jude, Loretta Chapman, Betty Chapman and Mavis Rogers.

Lon was a retired coal miner, member of UMWA and a former Pike County Deputy Sheriff.

Survivors include his wife, Myrtle Elizabeth Stanley Chapman of Hardy, Ky.; sons, Kelly (Teresa) Chapman and Brian (Kristy) Chapman all of Hardy, Ky.; daughter, Teresa (Ray) Hatfield of Pinsonfork, Ky.; brother, Ernest Chapman of Columbus, Ohio; sisters, Greties Sharp of Borderland, WV and Diana Cassidy of Columbus, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Kristina, Jessica, Justin, Jeremy, Shannon, Tiffany, Kristopher and Brandon and six great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 27, 2011 at 11 AM in the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with John Phillips officiating. Chester Runyon, 64, of Delbarton, WV passed away Saturday, June 25, 2011 at the Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville, Ky. He was a loving Husband and Father, and as it says in 2nd Timothy, Chapter 4 , Verse 7, " I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:"

He was born July 20, 1946 at Kermit, WV the son of the late Roy and Evelyn Jones Runyon. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Lewis Ray Runyon, Larry Joe Runyon, Wendell Glen Runyon and Wilbur Dean Runyon. Chester was a retired coal miner and of the Pentecostal Faith and he attended the Chattaroy Church of God.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Carol Runyon of Delbarton, WV; sons, Jason Scott (Marina) Runyon of Sidney, Ky. and Mark Christopher Runyon of Delbarton, WV; sisters, Patricia Igo, Joan (Dean) Crank and Sheila Kay (Michael) Bowens all of Kermit, WV; brothers, Lee (Sandy) Runyon of Turkey Creek, Ky., Richard (Joyce) Runyon of Pilgrim, Ky., Charles Cecil Runyon of Williamson, WV and Roger Dale Runyon of Kermit, WV and a host of family and friends.

Lynchia Jane Smith, 89, of Toler, KY went to be with the Jesus on June 28, 2011, at the Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson, KY.

She was born on February 2, 1922 at Canada, Ky the Daughter of the late Turner and Louisa Stanley. She was also preceded in death by her Husband, Sidney Lee Smith and two children, Jimmy V. Smith Sr. and Mary Jane (Smith) Williamson and Grand Daughter, Janie Diana Williamson. She was also preceded in death by Sisters, Eunice Runyon, Eva Taylor, Lear Smith, Birdie Smith, Marie Taylor and Norma Jean Scalf. Lynchia, was a longtime, faithful and devoted servant of the Lord, She gave her life to Jesus on 12/24/1978 and was a member of Belfry Freewill Baptist Church from that day. She was always serving others with love from her heart. She will be best known for her sweetness, her walk with Christ and her chicken and dumplings.

Mother, Grandmother, Aunt or Friend, she loved everyone and was loved by all who knew her. She would smile the sweetest smile when around all those she loved; her greatest treasure was her children. Her strength surpassed all understanding, with each trail she endured; there was the peace of salvation that shined through her heart. Her race had been run, her reward is Heaven and now she in rejoicing. She recently had a dream of her husband holding her hand and telling her to come on, he kissed her on the cheek and took her home, that dream is now fulfilled when God called her home. Our hearts will never mend with her loss, but our hope is in the legacy she left us to follow Christ and reach towards Heaven.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Friday July 1, 2011 at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home with Buddy Kendrick and Donnie Williamson officiating. Burial will follow at Coburn Point Cemetery with Great Grandsons serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are: Dennis Sesco, Danny Larry Smith, Randy Smith, Doug Rutherford, Ireland Smith, Gene Trout, T. J. Trout and Chris Harris. Lois Jean Farley, 79 of Stone, Ky. left this world to be home with the Lord, her Husband, Mother, Dad and infant daughter and other family, Monday, July 4, 2011 at the ARH Hospital in South Williamson, Ky. surrounded by her family whom she loved and they loved her so much. She was born November 4, 1931 at Stone, Ky. to Fee and Ida Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents Winfrey (Fee) and Ida Chapman Smith, her husband, Charles L. Farley, infant daughter, Judy Karen Farley , brother, LeRoy Smith , brother-in-law, James Bostic and sister-in-law, Mae Smith.

She is survived by her daughters, Sharon Jean Farley and Connie Lynn Hatter of Stone, Ky.; one grandson, Charles (Kelly) Hatter of Stone, Ky.; four great grandchildren, Whitney, Candice, Alex and Colby Hatter of Stone, Ky.; one sister, Sue Bostic of Stone, Ky.; one brother, Winfrey E. (Ruby) Smith of Pikeville, Ky.; several nieces and nephews who was with her through her sickness and death and special friends, Lisa Smith, Susan Goins and Rebecca Marcum.

She was a member of the Belfry Freewill Baptist Church, which she faithfully attended until her illness. Her desire was to always be able to attend church services.

Visitation will be at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home, Wednesday at 6 PM with services at 7 PM. Funeral will be Thursday, July 7, 2011 at 1 PM at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home with Buddy Kendrick, Roger Blackburn and Donnie Williamson officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Ky. with nephews and friends serving as pallbearers.

He was born July 14, 1949 at Sharondale, KY to Nell Ruth Varney May of Forest Hills, KY and the late Michael Lee May. He is also preceded in death by his son; Layton Stanley May, one grandson; James Christopher May and one brother; Millard May.

He was a coal miner.

Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife; Phyllis Harrison May, four sons; John Michael May of Turkey Creek, KY, James Christopher May of Turkey Creek, KY., Noah Keith May of Turkey Creek, KY., and Phillip Edward May of New Camp, Ky., two brothers; Darren May of Sidney, KY, and Henry May of Sidney, Ky and one sister; Karen Johnson of Forest Hills, KY twenty grandchildren, six great grandchildren and a host of loving family and friends.

Visitation will be after 6 PM Thursday July 7, 2011 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Friday July 8, 2011 at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home with Donnie Williamson officiating. Burial will follow at the Harrison-Fraley Cemetery at Hatfield, KY with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

Lee Edwards Eaton II, 48, was found dead in his home on July 8th, 2011.

Lee was a contractor in Kennesaw, Ga and a graduate of the University of Kentucky. As a contractor Lee renovated homes and worked on various commercial projects for his customers, most recently in Kennesaw, Ga. Lee, a devote Christian, was often a volunteer for helping communities or individuals recover from disaster. He was a generous soul who touched many lives and will be missed by his friends and family.

Lee is survived by his mother, Eleanor Runyon Eaton Blackwell of Lexington, Ky. His father, Lee Edwards Eaton of Fort Lauderdale, Fla, preceded him in death. His extended family includes, Marguerite Runyon Pope, his aunt of Salem, SC, 4 cousins, Peter Pope, James Pope and Vicky Humphrey of Atlanta and Betty Cowell of New Orleans and their families. He also has a half brother Loren Eaton of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Funeral Services will be held at the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry, Ky on July 16, 2011 at 2:00 PM with the Rev. Vaughan Smith officiating to be followed by a burial at the Runyon family site in John's Creek, Ky. Visitation will be from 12 Noon till time for the funeral. A memorial service or "a celebration of the life" of Lee Edwards Eaton II will be held in Kennesaw at a later date. The family requests that in lieu of flowers for the funeral that donations be made to Christian Appalachian Project in his name.

She was born April 25, 1917 in Williamson, WV the daughter of the late Cletus and Sally Ward Meade. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Allen Tackett; several brothers and sisters; a grandson, Steven Runyon and son-in-laws, Charles Lusk, Richard Gary and Robert Runyon. She was a retired cook having worked at Kings Restaurant in Williamson, WV for several years and a member of the Pentecostal Holliness Church.

Survivors include seven sons, David Michael (Mary Ann) Tackett of Norfolk, Va., Randall Lewis (Priscilla) Tackett of Stuart, Va., Larry Adrian (Marcy) Tackett of Huddy, Ky., Fred (Genda K.) Tackett of Louisa, Ky., Ronnie Lee (Alana E.) Tackett of Louisa, Ky., Joe Allen (Bessie) Tackett of Toler, Ky. and Mark Anthony (Angela) Tackett of Stone, Ky.; six daughters, Edna Helen Lusk of Florida, Martha Ann (Rich) Roberts of Harrisburg, NC, Karen Susan Gary of New Port News, Va., Robin Jill (Chet) York of Hardy, Ky., Penny Runyon of Belfry, Ky. and Tina Maresa (Jack) Parsley of Kermit, WV; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at 1 PM in the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Ky. with grandsons serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held after 6 PM Monday, July 18, 2011 in the R. E. She was born February 18, 1978 in Pike County, Ky. the daughter of Randy Edward Fields of McCarr, Ky. and Lana Smith Blankenship of Ransom, Ky. Other survivors include her step father, Ricky Blankenship of Ransom, Ky.; her son, Tyler Nicholas Fields of the Home; Grandparents, Landon (Kaye) Smith of Ransom, Ky. and a host of Aunts, Uncles and Friends.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Randy Nicholas Fields and grandparents, Chester and Frances Fields and Ann Smith.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 24, 2011 at 1 PM in the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Mike Smith officiating. Jenny was born November 24, 1958 at South Williamson, Ky. the daughter of Hazel Thornsbury Sturgill of Canada, Ky. and the late Bobby Lee Thornsbury. She was also preceded in death by her step father, William Bill Sturgill and her grandparents, Joe and Ethel Fuller Thacker and William Madison and Octavia Smith Thornsbury.

She was a former secretary for Mitchell Case Trucking and a loving mother, grandmother, daughter and sister.

Other survivors include a son, Dart Erwin (Brandy) Phillips Jr. of Canada, Ky.; two daughters, Jayne Aaron Thacker and Daryol Mullins of Sidney, Ky. and Rebekah Tess Booth of Canada, Ky.; three sisters, Loretta (Larry) Varney, Carletta (Woody) Robinette and Marianne (Robert) Goff all of Canada, Ky.; three brothers, Bobby (Gwen) Thornsbury of Matewan, WV, Joseph (Brenda) Thornsbury of Canada, Ky. and Vince (Louise) Sturgill of Burnwell, Ky.; grandchildren, Shyla Raquel Phillips, Jenna Grace Thacker, Leah Shay Thacker, Riley Clifford Phillips, Kevin Lukas Thacker and Eli Breyer Mullins and a host of other family and friends.

Billy Ray Fannin, 77, of Davis Branch, Stone, KY, passed away Friday, July 29, 2011 at the Parkview Nursing and Rehab Center, Pikeville, Ky.

He was born April 6, 1934 in Pike County, Ky. the son of the late Robert and Ethel Ratliff Fannin. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Irene Fannin.

Billy was a former coal miner and of the Baptist Faith.

Survivors include his daughter, JoAnn Gernert of Hardensburg, Ky.; son, Billy Ray Fannin Jr. of Owensboro, Ky.; sister, Joyce (Ronnie) Booth of Hardy, Ky.; grandchildren, Jody Gernert, Kelsey Fannin and Kelly Fannin and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel, Monday, August 1, 2011 at 1 PM with Buddy Kendrick officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday, July 31, 2011 after 6 PM at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home with special services at 7 PM with Roger Bogar and the Bluesprings Freewill Baptist Church in charge.

Jimmy Ray Elkins, 62, of Pinsonfork, KY, passed away Sunday, July 31, 2011 at his home.

He was born March 18, 1949 in Pike County, Ky. the son of the late Odna and Nary Silcox Elkins. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Curtis McPeek and Roland Elkins and sisters, Opal Ratliff, Ann Haynes and Janie McPeek.

Jimmy was a retired coal miner and of the Freewill Baptist Faith.


Survivors include his wife, Pauline Elizabeth "Libby" Elkins of Pinsonfork, Ky.; sons, Jimmy (Mildred) Elkins of Delbarton, WV and Curtis (Jill) Elkins of Pinsonfork, Ky.; brothers, Jerry (Dean) Elkins of Prestonsburg, Ky. and Dallas (Audrey Jones) Elkins of Sterns, Ky.; granddaughter, Madison Faith Smith; a special niece, Dena Stroud of Canada, Ky. and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at 2 PM in the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Ravin Fields officiating. He was born May 29, 1952 in Mingo County, WV the son of the late Walter and Carol Maxine Smith. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Shirlene Blankenship.

Ronnie was a disabled coal miner.

Survivors include his wife, Debra Smith of Forest Hills, Ky.; son, Shawn Smith of Martin County, Ky; brothers, Elbert Terry of Williamson, WV, Roger Smith of Pinsonfork, Ky. and Jimmy Dale Smith of Wayne County, WV; sisters, Gayle Gooslin of Hardy, Ky., Darlene Johnson of Martin County, Ky. and Enoia Wolford of Warfield, Ky.; one granddaughter, Kayla Williamson and a host of family and friends.

Bertha R. Smith, 94, of Belfry, KY, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, August 3, 2011, at the Hazard Hospice Care Center.

She was born August 13, 1916 at Boonesville, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Sam and Myrtle Ross Rasner. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Homer Smith and Truman Smith, brother, Gene Rasner and sister, Marie Burch.

She was a homemaker, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mamaw was also known for her good cooking.

Va. and Judy (Bobby) Smith of Canada, Ky.; Grandchildren, Billy (Lesa) Sammons, Kim (Britt) Moore, Chris Sammons, Steve Ray, Deborah (Ben) Bratcher, Robin Dee Farley, Roger (Chris) Farley, Regina Abbott, Bridgett (Johnny) Willis, Whitney (Chris) Brinager; Great Grandchildren, Drew Bratcher, Blake Bratcher, Chad Ray, Chase Ray, Shawn Sammons, Josh Sammons, Ashley Sammons, Chase Franklin, Troy Franklin, Matthew Farley, Tyler Farley, Mason Farley, Jordan Wilkerson, Cameron Kinser, Johna' Willis and Xondre' Willis; Great Great Grandchildren, Payton Brinager, Madylan Brinager, Jaelyn Wilkerson, Collin Farley and Beckett Bratcher, She is gone from our sight but never from our hearts.
