Ruth Harmon Bailey 84, of Forest Hills, KY formerly of Newtown, WV went to be with the Lord, Monday April 4, 2011 at the ARH Skilled Nursing Facility at South Williamson, KY with her loving children present at her bedside. Ruth was born May 6, 1926 at Varney, WV. She was the daughter of the late James and Nannie Harrison Harmon. She was preceded in death by her devoted and cherished husband; Hughey "Ben" Bailey. She was also preceded in death by five brothers; Burl, Reaford, Donald, Elmer and Lige Harmon and two sisters; Eunice and Ruby Harmon.


Ruth was a member of the Belfry Freewill Baptist Church at Belfry, KY. Most of her adult life, she was a devoted wife and mother to her family. She worked at numerous jobs throughout lifetime. Ruth was especially proud of her work and service at the New Town Head Start Center.
Ruth is survived by one brother; Johnny Harmon of San Antonio, TX and three sisters; Inez Null of Ocoee, MD Louise French of Tampa Fl. and Phyllis (Doris) Hickman of Morristown, TN. Phyllis was always there for her in the best and worst of times.
Ruth is survived by two sons; David Lee (Sharon) Bailey of Taylor, MI and Harvey (Dale) Bailey of Statesboro, GA. two daughters; Patricia (Gordon Blaine) Cathell of Tunnelton, WV and Judy (John) Simpkins of Forest Hills, KY twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM Thursday April 7, 2011 at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home with Buddy Kendrick officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View memory Gardens at Huddy, KY with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Mary Helen "Mattie" Hunt, 95, of Belfry, KY passed away Tuesday at her residence.

She was born January 29, 1916 at Middlesboro, KY. to the late John and Anna Potensky. She is also preceded in death by her husband; Carroll E. Hunt, brothers; Walter Potensky, Henry Potensky, Alex Potensky and Dennis Potensky and sisters; Ella Reed, Stella Padar and Louise Earl. She was a homemaker and a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Williamson, WV.
She is survived by two sons; James C. (Elizabeth) Hunt of Belfry, Ky. and John F. (Gayle) Hunt of Belfry, Ky. two grandchildren; James C. Hunt II of Belfry, Ky. and John F. Hunt II of Belfry, KY. and two great grandchildlren; Nicholas Hunt and Chelsea Hunt and a host of loving family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM Thursday April 7, 2011 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Hoppy officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Memory Gardens at Huddy, Ky. with James C. Hunt II, John F. Hunt II, Nicholas Hunt, Eddie Nenni, Keith Baldwin and Bob Scott serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be at 6 PM Wednesday night at the funeral home with Rosary at 8 PM.

Billy Chapman, 84, of Williamson, WV passed away Monday, April 4, 2011 at the Trinity Healthcare of Logan, WV.


He was born October 7, 1926 at Thacker, WV the son of the late Sydney Allen and Fannie E. Hatfield Chapman. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Irene Sampson Chapman; daughters, Cindy Lee Chapman and Baby Girl Chapman; sisters, Juanita DeWolf and Jaquita Griffth and brother, Golden Chapman.
Billy was a retired US Navy Veteran with over 20 years of service and then he was a resident manager for Luke Waldrop. He was a member of Boone Masonic Lodge # 247 F. & A.M. in Roanoke, Va. and a member of the Freedom Center.
Survivors include one son, Billy (Lori) Chapman; four daughters, Virginia (Dennis) Shelton, Tina McDaniels, Theresa (Bobby) Wilson and Cheryl (Ricky) Ball; twelve grandchildren, Roxanna Chapman, Serena (Ryan) Williams, Stephanie, Becca and Bobbie Wilson, Chris (Christine) Thompson, Rebecca (Ben) Glover, Guilianna Anderson, Jenamaye Shelton, Ricky Ball, Kevin (Cass) Ball and Brandon (Michelle) Ball; eighteen great grandchildren, Kailey, Kayden and Ava Mooty, Jayia, Lana, Mea and Mena Williams, Shakiya and Jordan Cleavenger, Hunter, Logan and Blake Rowan, Braydon and Bryce Canada, Ricky, Breanna, Katlynn and Meghan Ball and a host of family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 8, 2011 at 1 PM in the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Donnie Williamson officiating. Entombment will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Huddy, Ky. with Billy Chapman, Ricky Ball, Kevin Ball and Brandon Ball, Dennis Shelton, Bobby Wilson and Ricky Ball serving as pallbearers. Katie May McCoy, 89, of Williamson, West Virginia, died Saturday, April 9, 2011 in the Trinity Healthcare, Williamson, West Virginia.


Born in Pike County, March 15, 1922, Katie was the daughter of the late Bob And Addie (May) May, Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Epp McCoy, three brothers and five sisters.
Katie was a homemaker and of the Freewill Baptists Faith. She is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and friends.
Funeral Services will be held 1 P.M. Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at the Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry, Kentucky with Buddy Kendrick officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. View Memory Gardens, of Huddy, Kentucky, with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held after 6 P.M. Monday evening with special services at 7 P.M.

Keith "Hoppie" Hopkins 38, of Turkey Creek, KY passed away Monday April 11, 2011 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, Ky. He was born January 15, 1973 in Williamson, WV to Rachel Lynn Phillips Thacker of Forest Hills, Ky. He is preceded in death by his baby brother; Jeremy Grant Hopkins, maternal grandparents; Millard and Mary Ann Phillips, whom he loved with all his being, and a special cousin and friend; William David Phillips. He was construction worker, a member of the Forest Hills Baptist Church and a veteran of the U. S. Navy.


Besides his mother, he is survived by his stepfather; Randy L. Thacker, of Forest Hills, Ky, one son; Jeremy Keith Hopkins, and two daughters; Keila Brooke Hopkins and Autumn Dawn Hopkins, one sister; Amybeth (Jim) Dotson of Lexington, Ky, two nieces - his BFF - Raeanna "Drue" Dotson and Carli Reese Dotson of Lexington, Ky and a host of loving family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Friday April 15, 2011 at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home with Rick Gannon of the Borderland Baptist Church officiating. Burl Carson "Tiddle" Rose, 40, of Hardy, KY passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at his residence.

He was born March 3, 1971 in Detroit, MI to Kathy Scott Rose of Hardy, Ky and the late Gary Rose. He is also preceded by his grandparents; Burl and Nellie Scott and mother-in-law; Shirley Conley. He was a coal miner and a member of the New Beginning Church of God.

Besides his Mother, he is survived by his wife, Lou Wanna Bernice Conley Rose of Hardy; two sons, Christopher Rose and Corey Rose both of the Home; father and mother-in-law: David and Mattie Conley of McAndrews, Ky. and a host of other family and friends.


Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 1 PM in the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with John Victor McCoy officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Ky. with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held after 6 PM Thursday and Friday at the R. E. Kenneth Darrell Elkins, 53, of Hatfield, KY passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2011 in the Emergency Room of the Appalachian Regional Hospital, South Williamson, Ky.
He was born April 17, 1957 in Pike County, Ky. the son of Georgia A. Lowe Elkins of Hatfield, Ky. and the late Robert Elkins.
Kenneth was a heavy equipment operator for Halfway Branch Surface Mine and a faithfull member of the Pilgrim Home Old Regular Baptist Church.
Other survivors include his loving wife, Mildred Ann Robinette Elkins of Hatfield; sons, Robert Seth Elkins of Lexington, Ky. and Joseph Bevins of Blaine, Ky.; daughter, Candace Bevins of Lexington, Ky.; brothers, Bobby Eugene Elkins and Donald Elkins both of Hatfield, Ky.; sister, Phyllis Elkins of Hatfield, Ky.; two grandchildren, Kelsey Bevins and Adam Fields and a host of loving family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 11 AM at the Pilgrim Home Old Regular Baptist Church with Old Regular Baptist Ministers officiating. Burial will follow in the Elkins Cemetery, Hatfield, Ky. with Family and Friends serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held after 6 PM Thursday and Friday at R. E. Luther Fields, 87 of Hardy, KY passed away Thursday, April 14, 2011 at his residence.


He was born February 27, 1924 in Martin County, Ky. the son of the late Lewis and Maudie Short Fields. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Dotson Fields; one daughter, Deloris Fields; granddaughter, Kathy Nicole Goad and several brothers and sisters.


Survivors include two sons, Paul (Betty) Fields of Williamson, WV and Luther (Lori) Fields II of Hardy, Ky.; three daughters, Pauline (Frank) Collins of Red Jacket, WV, Kathy (Phillip) Goad of West Madison, WV and Rachel (John) Charles of Matewan, WV; step son, William W. Dotson of Red Jacket, WV; brother, Caudil Fields of Norfolk, Va. and Edith Endicott of Pritchard, WV; sister-in-law, Sue Fields of Newtown, WV; 16 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.


There will be no services or visitation.

Earl Edward Johnson, 64, of Williamson, WV passed away Sunday, April 17, 2011 at his home after a lingering illness.
He was born September 16, 1946 at Logan, WV the son of the late Elmer and Octavie Canterbury Johnson. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Johnny Grayson Johnson.
He was disabled all his life and of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include two brothers, Everett Elmer Johnson of Williamson, WV and William Boyd (Hoppy) Johnson of Chattaroy, WV and his cousin and caregiver, whom he lived with Cathy Pennington of Chattaroy, WV.
There will no services. He will be cremated per his request.

Clayton Elbert Dempsey, 74, of Turkey Creek, KY passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at the Pikeville Medical Center.


He was born March 20, 1937 at Turkey Creek, Ky. the son of the late Elbert and Hannah Sartin Dempsey. He was also preceded in death by sisters, Dollie Taylor, Bonnie Henthorne and Maggie Hardin and one brother, Melvin Dempsey.
He was a retired mechanic, a member of the National Guard and a member of the Turkey Creek Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include his loving wife, Loretta Blackburn Dempsey of Turkey Creek, Ky.; one daughter, Deborah Ann (Randy) Fields of Turkey Creek, Ky.; three grandchildren, Paula Robinson, Lisa Fields and Larry Fields; one great grandchild, Derek Robinson; Papaw's two boys; Greg and Eric Swafford of Turkey Creek, Ky. and a host of loving family, friends and his Church family.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Thursday, April 21, 2011 in the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mike Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Dempsey-Horner Family Cemetery, Turkey Creek, Ky. with Harold Blackburn, Jimmy Blackburn, Steve Blackburn, Bill Blackburn, Don Taylor, Berkley Hardin and Tony Swafford serving as pallbearers. Reverend Michael Kohari, 80, of Forest Hills, KY left his earthly home Friday, April 22, and was met by his heavenly Father with open arms saying "Child, child enter now into the courts of heaven. You have been faithful over a few things. I will make you ruler over many things."


He passed away with the love of his family who were so dear to him.
He was born September 30, 1930, to Hungarian immigrants Andy Kohari and Elizabeth Dudash Kohari in Caretta, West Virginia.
Mike would often say "I don't question the Lord in regard to my life; I trust him with my life. When I committed my life to Christ, I became His child. God takes care of His own.”
In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by brothers, Steve Kohari, Rev. Andy Kohari, Jim P. Kohari, John Kohari, Frank Kohari and sisters, Mattie "Mary" Hedrick, Julia Kohari Gonda, Elizabeth Kohari Wilson and Jo Anne Kohari Sweeney.
Mike was retired from Appalachian Power Company, a Minister, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Forest Hills.
He is survived by the jewel of his life, his wife, Jewell Kohari; daughter Brenda (David) Pacific who loved him dearly; son, Michael Kohari, Jr., wife Susan; grandchildren Kristin (Daniel) Jenkins and Bradley (Summer) Kohari one precious great-granddaughter Sara Elizabeth Jenkins and one brother, Joey (Margaret) Kohari of Chattaroy, WV. He had a grandpuppy, Angel, who was so special to him.
God called Mike to "Follow me and I will make you fishers of men." And he loved to fish and became one of God's best fishermen.
Mike's friends and family and church family meant more and more to him. Now he can rest at the feet of Jesus forever more.
The funeral is Monday, April 25, at 1 PM at the First Baptist Church of Forest Hills. Officiating will be Scottie Sumner, Thurmon Coleman and Steve Mickey. Burial will follow in the Smith Cemetery, Sidney, Ky. with Mark Kohari, Timmy Kohari, Darryl Kohari, Barry Kohari, Chris Kohari, David Wilson and Billy Hedrick. Honorary pallbearers are Rodney, Varney, Roger Varney, Mike Kline, Moses Pinson, Okey Porter and Claude Smith. Charles West, 82, of South Williamson, KY, died Tuesday, April 26, 2011 in the Appalachian Regional Hospital, South Williamson, Ky.


Born June 20, 1928 at Canada, Ky, a son of the late Earl D. and Bertha (Chapman) West. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, one brother, Walter West and one niece, Rita Tyson.


Charles was a Bus Driver, having at one time driving for the Scott Nichols Bus Company and for a Bus Company in Huntington, West Virginia. He attended the Old Regular Baptist Church and he served his country with the United States Army during the Korean War.


He is survived by one sister, Lola Charles of Goody, Kentucky, one niece; Freda Charles of Hurricane, WV, six great nieces and nephews; Shannon Gay, Crystal Slone, Donovan Slone, Freddy Goins, Sheila Henry, Angelia Tyson and a host of other family and friends.


Funeral services will be conducted at 1 PM Friday April 29, 2011 at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home with Old Regular Baptist Ministers officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Memory Gardens at Huddy, Ky. with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be after 6 PM Thursday night at the funeral home with singing at 7 PM.

Tony Smith Jr. 82, of McAndrews, KY passed away Wednesday April 27, 2011 at the home of his daughter, Debbie Mullins. tony smith jr3.jpg
Tony was born March 6, 1929 at Pinsonfork, Ky. to the late Tony Smith Sr. and Annie Coleman Smith. Tony is also preceded in death by his wife; Edith Varney Smith and one brother; York Smith Sr. He was a truck driver for Old Ben Coal Company, a member of the U.M.W.A. and a member of the Pinsonfork Church of God for 47 years.

He is survived by one daughter; Debbie (Roger) Mullins, one son; Gregory M. Smith, two grandchildren; Shawn (Natalie) Mullins and Ryan (Micah) Mullins, three great grandchildren; Taygan Mullins, Colby Mullins and Todd Blackburn, one brother; Ransom Smith, three sisters; Margaret Hatfield, Gladys Boyer and Maggie Holbrook, and a host of loving family and friends.


Funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM Saturday April 30, 2011 at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry, Ky., with David Kilburn officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Ky with Shawn Mullins, Ryan Mullins, Taygan Mullins, Colby Mullins, Todd Blackburn and Steve Varney serving as pallbearers. James was born May 30, 1927 in Martin County, Ky to the late James and Sadie Dalton Smith. James is also preceded in death by one son; Michael W. Smith and five brothers; Clyde Smith, Deming Smith, Okey Smith, Arnold Smith and Prent Smith.

James was a retired coal miner at Eastern Coal, a member of the U.M.W.A., a member of the McAndrews Church of Christ and a veteran of the U. S. Army for 4 years and the U. S. Navy for 8 years.

James if survived by his wife; Ethel Kennedy Smith, one daughter; Lisa Smith of McVeigh, Ky., one brother; Don Smith of Thornville, OH, five sisters; Florence Cains of Lancaster, OH, Geneva Faulkner of Graveport, OH, Nell Howell of Beauty, Ky, Sue Jude of Beauty, KY, and Connie Adams of Blacklick, Oh, two step brothers; Garland Muncy of Beauty, Ky, and Ance Muncy Jr. of Zanesville, Oh, and a host of loving family and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Sunday May 1, 2011 at the McAndrews Church of Christ with Joe Cochran officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Vierw Memory Gardens at Huddy, Ky. Margie Thompson, 89, of McAndrews, KY passed away Thursday morning at the Appalachian Regional Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit. margie thompson.jpg

She was born in Pike County, KY to the late Floyd and Fannie Maynard Gillman. Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband; Andy Thompson, daughter; Linda Mullins, sons: Harold Thompson and Freddie Ray Thompson, several brothers and sisters.

She was a homemaker, a cook at Belfry High School and member of the Belfry Freewill Baptist Church.

She is survived by three daughters; Ethel Fahler of Wooster, OH, Mable Webb of Farmington Hills, MI and Bonnie Williams of Wooster, OH, one son; Irvin Thompson of Smithville, OH, one brother; Boyd Gillman of Cincinnati, OH, nine grandchildren; Crystal Robinette, Rachel Workman, Dennis Robinette Jr., Wallace Robinette, Robert Robinette, Debbie Williams, Joe Thompson, Christina Mast and Rodney Mullins, ten Great Grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.

Tommy Blackburn Jr., 74, of Turkey Creek, KY, passed away Thursday April 28, 2011 at the Appalachian Regional Hospital.

He was born April 24, 1936 in Martin County, KY, to the late Tommy Blackburn Sr., and Judy Howard Blackburn. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by one brother; Arnold Blackburn.

He was a coal miner for Osborne Mining and a member of the Turkey Creek Freewill Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife; Joanne Preece Blackburn, two brothers; Lawyer Blackburn of Adamsville, Fl, and Willie Blackburn of Turkey Creek, Ky, one sister; Ora Blackburn of Turkey Creek, KY, and a host of loving family and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 Am Monday at the Turkey Creek Freewill Baptist Church with Jimmy Stanley, Mikey Smith and Gary Blackburn officiating. Burial will follow at the Family Cemetery at Turkey Creek, KY with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be after 6 PM Saturday and Sunday night at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home with special services both nights at 7 PM.

Thomas Ricky Sellards, 48, of Pinsonfork, KY passed away Saturday, April 30, 2011 at his home.

He was born August 15, 1962 at Huntington, WV the son of Ras Raymond and Eleanor Sue Runyon Sellards of Columbia Station, Ohio.

He was a former employee of the Laborers Union, removing asbestos. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Annette Spielburger.

Other survivors include one daughter, Ashley (Justen) Cross of Paintsville, Ky.: one sister, Nell (Darrell) Cornell of Columbia Station, Ohio; two brothers, Ronald (Naomi) Sellards of Pinsonfork, Ky. and Raymond (Cathy) Sellards of Columbia Station, Ohio; brother-in-law, Doug Spielburger of Columbia Station, Ohio and two grandchildren, Gianna and Ashten Cross.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at 11 AM in the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Shane and Shawn Ward officiating. Lerlie Marie Barton, 75, of Sidney, KY passed away Saturday, April 30, 2011 at the residence of her daughter at Sidney, Ky.

She was born May 5, 1935 in Pike County, Ky. the daughter of the late Ebb and Betty Varney Slone. She was also preceded in death by two husbands, Curtis Chapman and Stacy Barton; two sons, two brothers and one sister.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Regular Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis Young of Sidney, Ky. and Brenda Perrigan of Pikeville, Ky.; one son, Tony Chapman of Pikeville, Ky.; one brother, Leonard Slone of Zebulon, Ky.; ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Thursday, May 5, 2011 at 1 PM at the Brushy Creek Baptist Church with John George Blackburn and Jack Justice officiating. Burial will follow in the Carter Cemetery, Sidney, Ky. Visitation after 3:30 PM Tuesday at the Brushy Baptist Church.

Robert Anderson Ball, 61, of Pinsonfork, KY passed away Sunday, May 1, 2011 at the Pikeville Medical Center.

He was born February 28, 1950 in Pike County, Ky. the son of the late Joseph McKinley and Jane Varney Ball.

He was also preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. He was a carpenter, a member of the Primitive Baptist Church and and veteran of the US Army.
