     She was born October 12, 1923 in Martin County, Ky. the daughter of the late Taulby and Ellen Horn Runyon.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Tom Trout, sisters, Kate Workman, Oma Workman and Patsy Burgett and brothers, Arrie Runyon and Jim Runyon.
     Bertha was a homemaker and a member of the Big Creek Freewill Baptist Church, Sidney, Ky.
      She is survived by her children, Phyllis (Lonnie) Rose of Center, Ky., Sarah (Edward) Thomas of Waynesboro, Ga., Thomas (Diana) Trout of Lancaster, SC and Michael (Linda) Trout of Johnson City, Tn.; brother, Haskell (Josephine) Runyon of Borderland, WV; six grandchildren, Stephanie Rose of Center, Ky., Jason (Amy) Thomas of Waynesboro, Ga., Patrick (Paige) Thomas of Macon, Ga., Mike Trout and Bobby (Stella) Trout of Johnson City, Tn., and Amanda (Ricky) Hicks of Rock Hill, SC and one step-grandchild, Dustin Dickerson of Lancaster, SC; three great grandchildren, Chloe Thomas, Preston Thomas, Mason Trout and two step great grandchildren, Gabriel Veldboom and Hannah Cham and numerous nieces and nephews.
     Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Monday, January 24, 2011 at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Gary Blackburn officiating.  Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Ky. with grandsons and nephews serving as pallbearers.  Visitation will be held after 6 PM Saturday and Sunday at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home with special services Sunday night at 7 PM with Hacky Runyon and Freddie Runyon.

     Richard Shane Carroll, 35, of Turkey Creek, KY passed away Saturday, January 22, 2011 at his residence.


     He was born September 8, 1975 in Columbus, Ohio the son of Richard E. Carroll of Turkey Creek, Ky. and the late Alice Ford Carroll.
     He was disabled, having been employed by Tramco and a member of the Church of God.
     Besides his Father he is also survived by three children, Cody Carroll and Kayla Carroll both of Westerville, Ohio and Austin Carroll and his Mother, Melinda Jude of Canada, Ky.; on sister, Michelle (Rodney) Williamson of Huddy, Ky. and a host of family and friends.
     Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at 11 AM at the Canada Freewill Baptist Church with Roger Williamson, Butch Williamson and Jack Maynard officiating.  Burial will follow in the Glen Rest Memorial Gardens, Reynoldsburg, Ohio on Wednesday, January 26, 2011.  Visitation will be held after 6 PM on Monday, January 24, 2011 at the Canada Freewill Baptist Church with special services at 7 PM. richard shane carroll.jpg

     Judy Faye Little, 68 of McCarr, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, January 22, 2011 at her residence.


     She was born May 8, 1942 at McCarr, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Fred and Pearl (May) Rife.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving companion, Darrell Lockhart; one daughter, Wilma Jean Hyden; two brothers, Raven and Avery Rife; and three sisters, Mary Rife, Ethel Bailey and twin sister, Eula Faye Rife.
     Judy was a retired cook at Food City and of the Church of Christ Faith.  She is survived by three sons, William Avery Hyden of McCarr, Kentucky, Samuel Jonathan Hyden of Cincinnati, Ohio and Joshua Pauley of McCarr, Kentucky; two daughters, Rhonda Lynn Trent of Delbarton, West Virginia and Coetta Ford of Delbarton, West Virginia; two sisters, Sylvia Skeens of Charleston, West Virginia and Greta Mayhorn of Freeburn, Kentucky; Grandchildren, Walter Ford Jr., Anthony Ford, William Hyden, Katie Trent, Dustin Trent, Brandon Hyden  and Ashley Hyden; great grandchildren, Hannah Hyden and Hailey Hyden; one great grandson on the way and a host of loving friends.
     Funeral Services will be held 11 A.M. Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at R.E. Rogers Funeral Home, Belfry, Kentucky with Bob Werntz officiating.  Burial will follow in the Anderson-Hatfield Cemetery, McCarr, Kentucky with family and friends serving as pallbearers.  Visitation will be held after 4 P.M.      Linda Darlene Johnson-Rolle (Rosebud), 47 of Miami, Fl. passed away Friday, January 21, 2011 at Henry Medical Center in Atlanta, Ga. due to a brief illness.


     She was born June 16, 1963 in South Williamson, Ky. the daughter of the late Rev. Carl Eugene Johnson Sr. and Evelyn Carter Johnson.  She was a member of the Mount Carmel Baptist Church of Huddy, Ky.  Linda graduated from Belfry High School, continuing her education at Eastern Kentucky University.  Later in life moving to Miami, Fl. where she became the wife to Kevin Rolle and devoted mother to Brandon Johnson, Tiffany Rolle, Ashley Rolle and Kevin Rolle Jr.
     Surviving are her two sons, Brandon Johnson and Kevin Rolle Jr. of Miami, Fl; two daughters, Tiffany Rolle and Ashley Rolle of Miami, Fl.; beloved daughter-in-law, Sheri Johnson and granddaughter, Saryah Jaida Johnson of Miami, Fl.; five brothers, Carl and Lisa Johnson of Harold, Ky., Clifford and Debra Johnson of Belfry, Ky., Joseph and Maria Johnson of San Marcus, Ca., Johnny and Geri Johnson of Kileen, TX, and Paul Johnson of Philadelphia, PA  three sisters, Barbara Johnson of Atlanta, GA, Debra Johnson of Philadelphia, PA and Brenda Johnson of Philadelphia, PA; numerous nieces and nephews that she loved so very much.
     If there is one thing that everyone could agree on, Linda was a God fearing woman after Gods on heart.  She always said that nothing ever matters when you know God is in control and nothing ever did.  Being the light that lead her husband, four children and many others to know Jesus Christ.  Romans 14:8  For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord.  Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord's.
     Funeral services will be held 12 Noon Saturday January 29, 2011 at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home with Rev. G. C. Childress officiating.  Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Ky., with family serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be after 6 P.M.      George Robert Rose, 60 of Hephzibah, Ga. formerly of Canada, KY passed away Sunday night, January 30, 2011 in Georgia. He was born February 8, 1950 in Pike County, Ky to the late Heston and Susie Juanita Farley Rose. He was retired from the U. S. Army.
     He is survived by his wife; Chong S. Rose, one daughter; Hanna Lee Rose of Charlotte, N.C., one son; Robert Eugene Rose of Spartanburg, S.C., four brothers; Elbert H. Rose of Canada, Ky. Herman Rose of Albany, Ky. Wayne Alfred Meade of Akron, Ohio and Joseph Wayne Meade of Columbia, S.C. two sisters; Vivian Sue Rose of Canada, Ky. and Nyoka Rose Stanley of Canada, Ky. One grandchild; Kamden Michael Rose of Spantanburg, S.C. and a host of loving family and friends.
     Funeral services will be conducted at 1 P.M. Saturday February 5, 2011 at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home with Gary Blackburn officiating. Burial will follow at the Rose Cemetery at Canada, Ky. with family and friends serving as pallbearers. D.A.V. graveside services will be conducted by Belfry Chapter #141. Visitation will be after 6 P.M. Thursday night and Friday night at the funeral home with special services both nights at 7 P.M.

     Ricky Dale Thacker, 31 of Richmond, KY departed this life on Saturday, February 5, 2011.  He was born in Pike County and raised in Sidney, Ky.


     He was a general laborer, a beloved father, son, grandson, brother and uncle.
     He was preceded in death by his uncle, Patrick Thacker, great uncle, Clinton Jr. (C.J.) Williamson, grandparents, Omer and Gladys Williamson, great grandparents, Jack and Alley Brown Williamson and Fred and Anna Varney, step father, Charlie Anderson and aunt, Bessie Mae Stacey.
     He is survived by his wife, Vanessa Maynard Chapman Thacker of the home, daughter, Makayla Thacker of Louisa, Ky., sons, Brendan Chapman of Belfry, Ky. and Jayden Levering of Louisa, Ky.; his parents, Kathy and Mike Levering of Louisa, Ky. and Rick Thacker of Sidney, Ky.; stepmother, Sharon Pinson.  His grandparents, Hazel and Bob Thacker of Dix Fork, Ky.; Pete and Jean Varney of Morehead, Ky. and Loretta and Ben Young of Morehead, Ky.; brother, Brandon (Brandi) Thacker of Goodman Hollow,WV.; sisters, Ashlea Anderson of Goodman Hollow, WV, Bobbi Thacker of Sidney, Ky., Amy (Brian) Martin of Lexington, Ky., Sabrina Loveitt of Wilmur, Crystal Thacker of Alabama and Selena Pinson of Alabama  and his nephews, Braydon Thacker, Kameron Vaughn and Hunter Thacker and a host of family and friends.

     Orsion Byrd Maddison Lowe, 95, of Brushy Road, Pikeville, Kentucky died Monday, February 7, 2011 at his residence. He was born September 28, 1915 at Pikeville, Ky. to the late James Montville Lowe and Ruth Leona Taylor Lowe. He is also preceded in death by his wife; Claudia Francis Lowe. Two sons; Donnie Lowe and Johnnie James Lowe, one daughter; Sharon Kaye Lowe Young, two brothers; Moses Fonso Lowe and Lonzo Taylor Lowe and three sisters; Marybell Maynard, Alice Vivian Maynard and Myrtle Maynard. He was a farmer, truck driver, logger and factory worker.


     He is survived by three sons; Moses Fonso (Sue) Lowe of Brushy, Ky., Kenneth Darrel Lowe of Brushy, Ky and Junior (Janice) Lowe of Michigan, five daughters; Alice (Charles) Lowe of Brushy, Ky Mary (Larry) Lowe Thompson of Allen, Ky Alfredia (Mike) Lowe Sammons of Brushy, Ky Ruby (Paul) Maynard of Brushy, Ky and Ruth (Herman) Hobbs, Ohio, son-in-law; Gary Young, husband of Sharon Young, daughter-in-law; Phyllis Lowe, wife of Johnny James Lowe, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
     Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Thursday February 10, 2011 at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home with Old Regular Baptist Church Ministers officiating. Burial will follow at the Mont Lowe Cemetery at Brushy, Ky with Chuck Lowe, Wesley Lowe, Dwaine Thompson, Tanner Sammons, Maddison Thompson, Brandon Smith, Wade Lowe and Weston Lowe serving as pallbearers.      Rhonda Simone Lowe, 46 of Romulus, MI formerly of Pike County, Ky. passed away Friday, February 4, 2011.


     She was born November 10, 1964 in Pikeville, Ky. the daughter of Phyllis Robinette Lowe and the late Johnnie James Lowe.  She was also preceded in death by her grandparents, Willard Robinette and Hazel Lowe.
     Other survivors include brothers, Johnda (Annette) Lowe, Timothy Lowe and Johnnie James Lowe Jr.; sister, Kimberly (Joe) Montague; nieces, Emma'lee McIntyre, Emma and Anna Montague; nephews, Anthony and Dennis McIntyre; Mae Robinette and Byrd Lowe, who passed away Monday February 7, 2011.
     Funeral services will be Friday, February 11, 2011 at 11 AM at the Apple Orchard Old Regular Baptist Church with  Dale Williamson and Richard Staton officiating.  Burial will follow in the Apple Orchard Cemetery, Varney, KY with family and friends serving as pallbearers, Visitation will be held after 5:30 PM Thursday, February 10, 2011 at the Pilgrim Home Old Regular Baptist Church. Special singing will be at 6:30 PM Thursday night with special services at 7 PM with Paul Maynard and Andrew Walters officiating.

     Donald Ray Dotson 70, of Freeburn, KY passed away Monday February 7, 2011 at the Paul B. Hall Medical Center. He was born March 2, 1940 in Pike County, Ky to Claudia Jane Hager Dotson of Ransom, Ky and the late Don Dotson. He is also preceded in death by his wife; Mary Dotson, one sister; Annalene Harles and one brother; Billy Dotson. He was a general laborer and a veteran of the U.S. Army.


     Besides his mother he is survived by his children; Cathy, Michael, Nickie and Donette, one brother; Paul Dotson of McCarr, Ky and four sisters; Phyllis Higgins of Piketon, Ohio, Helen Roberts of Columbus, Ohio, Dorothy Glaze of Lucasville, Ohio and Brenda Wright of  Oldsmar, Fl., and a host of family and friends.
     Funeral services will be conducted at 1 PM Saturday February 12, 2011 at Bluesprings Freewill Baptist Church with Emery Varney and Lerry Hubbard officiating. Burial will follow at Dotson Cemetery, Ransom, Ky., with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be after 6 PM Thursday and Friday night at Bluesprings Freewill Baptist Church with special services both nights at 7 PM.

     Terri Nicole Zornes Honaker, 28 of Ransom, KY passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2011.


     She was born April 7, 1982 in Logan, WV the daughter of Randy Zornes of Delbarton, WV and Betty Dotson Zornes of Ransom, Ky.  She was a loving daughter, mother, granddaughter and sister.  She was a faithful member of the Freeburn Church of God.
     Other survivors include her loving daughters, Cassie Honaker and Hailey Zornes both of the Home; grandmother, Norma Dotson of Ransom, Ky.; sister, Evelyn Ellis of Lenore, WV and a host of family and friends.
     Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 13, 2011 at 1 PM in the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Johnny Matthew Fields officiating.  Burial will follow in the Dotson Cemetery, Ransom, Ky. with family and friends serving as pallbearers.  Visitation will be held after 6 PM on Friday and Saturday at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home with special services both nights at 7 PM.

    Magalene Louise "Maggie" Hager Varney 87, of Mount Airy, NC passed away Monday morning, February 14, 2011, at Northern Hospital of Surry County.

  Mrs. Varney was born November 23, 1923, in Mingo County, West Virginia, daughter of the late William McKinley and Orthea Runyon Hager.

  Maggie worked at Cantee's Department Store in Williamson, West Virginia, in her early adult years.  She later worked at Sears-Roebuck Company in Williamson, West Virginia, where she retired as a clerk after many years of service.

  Maggie and her husband, Earl L. Varney Sr., moved to Mount Airy, NC after their retirement in 1981, and she worked part-time at Wal-Mart.  Mrs. Varney was a member of Salem Old Regular Baptist Church in Goody, Kentucky.

  She is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Earl L. Varney, Sr. of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Earl L. Varney Jr. and Jan Varney of Mount Airy, NC.; two grandsons and their spouses, Anthony Lee "Tony" and Melissa Varney of Mount Airy, N.C. and Gregory Earl and Jessica Varney of Asheville, NC. and three great grandchildren, Jasmine Varney, Bryson Varney and Mason Varney all of Mount Airy, NC.



  The Funeral Service will be held Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 11 AM at Salem Baptist Church in Goody, Kentucky with Old Regular Baptist Ministers officiating.  Interment will follow at Mt. View Memory Gardens in Huddy, Ky. with family and friends serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
     Dorothy Blackburn Mosley, 93 of McAndrews, KY, passed away Monday, February 14, 2011 at the Appalachian Regional Hospital, South Williamson, KY.
     Dorothy was born April 6, 1917 at McAndrews, Ky. the daughter of the late Lee Otis Blackburn and Louvena May Blackburn West.  She was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Rev. Jesse Mosley; sisters, Florence May, Grace Ratliff, Audrey Hensley and Estilene Blackburn; brothers, Lawrence Blackburn and Paul West; two infant sons and one great grandson.
     She was a homemaker and she and her husband, Jess had owned and operated a grocery store.  She was a member of the Belfry Freewill Baptist Church, where she had attended alongside her husband for many years.
     Survivors include four daughters, Anna Lee (Joe) Tetreault of Florida, Jackie (Ed) Guden and Carol Mabe all of North Carolina and Connie (Mike) May of McAndrews, Ky., son, Gary (Tami) Mosley of Williamson, WV; two sisters, Josephine Mullins of McAndrews, Ky. and Jeraldine Adkins of Lexington, Ky.; two brothers, Norman West of Tennessee and William "Bill" West of Florida; 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
     Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Thursday, February 17, 2011 at the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home, Belfry, Ky. with Buddy Kendrick officiating.  Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Ky. with grandsons serving as pallbearers.  Visitation will be held after 6 PM Wednesday, February, 16, 2011 at the R.      Wendell Maynard, 53 of Pinsonfork, KY passed away Saturday, February 12, 2011 in Forrest City, Arkansas.
     He was born December 31, 1957 in Williamson, WV the son of Edith Bostic May of Phelps, Ky. and the late Donnie Maynard.  He was also preceded in death by his Step Father, Jess Casey.
     He was a truck driver for Starr Transport, a graduate of Belfry High School Class of 1976 and a veteran of the United States Army.
     Other survivors include his wife, Shirley Ann French Maynard of Pinsonfork, Ky.; one son, Wendell Maynard Jr. of the Home; his Aunt, Myrtle Beard of Mingo County, WV and a host of loving family and friends.
     Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 19, 2011 at 11 AM in the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Buddy Kendrick officiating.  Visitation will be held after 6 PM Friday, February 18, 2011 at the R.E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel.wendell maynard.jpg
     Helen Shelton, 84 of Lexington, KY formerly of Turkey Creek, KY passed away at her residence in Lexington, Wednesday, February 16, 2011.
     She was born December 27, 1926 in Williamson, WV the daughter of the late Benjamin and Mary McGuire Smith.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Carl B. Shelton; brothers, Edward and Eugene Smith and one sister, Hazel Phillips.
     Helen retired from B. L. Furniture Company and was a member of the Forest Hills Baptist Church.
     She is survived by one daughter, Patricia Shelton of Lexington, Ky.; three sons, Stephen (Tanya) Shelton of Lexington, Ky., Kenneth (Nikki) Shelton of Naples, Fl. and Carl David Shelton of Lakeland, Fl; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
     Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 19, 2011 at 2 PM in the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with James Justice officiating.  Burial will follow in the Smith Cemetery, Sidney, Ky. with family and friends serving as pallbearers.  Visitation will be held from 1 PM till time for the Funeral.helen shelton.jpg

     The Lord called and our most precious angel, Christlene Chapman answered his call, Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at the Appalachian Regional Hospital, South Williamson, Ky. after a lingering illness.


     Christlene was born on July 18, 1941 at Kimper, Ky. the daughter of the late General and Nancy Varney Chapman.  Besides her parents she was also preceded in death by three brothers, James Chapman, Alvin Chapman and Don Chapman; two sisters, Helen Chapman Johnson and Alma Chapman; three sister-n-laws. Rosie Chapman, Golessa Chapman and Leona Chapman; three brother-in-laws, Cecil Johnson, Orville Deskins and Earnest Donathan.
     She is survived by sisters, Marie (Herbert) Thornbury and Mildred Deskins both of Canada, Ky., and Mable Donathan of Michigan; brothers, Tom (Ruby) Chapman of Canada, Ky., Elster Chapman of Ohio, Denver (Betty) Chapman of Ohio, Doug (Sadie) Chapman of Tennessee and Dee (Jennie) Chapman of Indiana and a host of other family and friends.
     Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 20, 2011 at 11 AM at the Big Creek Primitive Baptist Church, Meathouse Fork, Canada, Ky. with Randal Thornbury, David Allen Thacker and John Jacob officiating.  Burial will follow in the Varney Branch Cemetery, Kimper, Ky. with Steve, Tim, Mark, Brandon, Eric and Ryan Thornbury, Shannon, Craig, Ricky and Larry David Chapman, Shannon Dotson and Josh Cobb all serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be after 6 P.M. Friday and Saturday at Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry, Ky.  Special services both nights at 7 P.M. with Big Creek Primitive Baptist Ministers and Raymond Stanley.
     She was loved and will be missed by all that knew her.  She spoke of the Lord and angels often and now she is with them in Heaven.  She always had a smile on her face, so we need to remember the happy times and smile, because she is with the Lord and at peace.

     Hassell Leon Runyon, 77 of Delray Beach, FL formerly of Canada, KY passed away Friday morning, February 18, 2011 at the Pincrest Rehabilitation Hospital Hospice Unit.
     He was born May 25, 1933 at Ransom, Ky. the son of the late Earnest Boots and Stella Smith Runyon.  He was also preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Dixie Runyon; sisters, Edith Little, Ernestine Hatfield, Rosalie Martin, Annette Dotson and Birdie Marie Coleman; brothers, Francis "Bud" Runyon, Orison Runyon, Paul Runyon and Eddie Lee Runyon.
     Hassell was a former coal miner and a member of the Primitive Baptist Church.
     Survivors include two daughters, Rena Fay (G.W.) Shannon of Delray Beach, Fl. and Patricia Mae Shannon of Gastonia, NC; one sister, Patsy Lee (Jim) Bunn of Greensboro, NC; four sisters, Tom (Eleanor) Runyon of Pikeville, Ky., Charles (Pat) Runyon of Thomasville, NC, Douglas McArthur (Phyllis) Runyon of Ashboro, NC and Danny (Sheila) Runyon of Varney, Ky.; one grandson, Christopher Douglass (Jennifer) Elliott and three great grandchildren, Merci, Memphis and Malachi and a host of family and friends.
     Graveside services will be held Monday, February 21, 2011 at the Runyon Cemetery, Canada, Ky. with Danny Runyon officiating and burial will follow with his grandson and nephews serving as pallbearers.
     Visitation will be held Sunday, February 20, 2011 after 6 PM at the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with special services at 7 PM with Danny Runyon.

     Homer T. Blackburn, 79 of Fairdale, KY, formerly of  Pike County, KY, died Saturday, February 19, 2011 at his residence. 


     He was born January 23, 1932 in Pike County, Ky. the son of the late Mitch and Jennie Bowe Blackburn.  He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Paulette McCoy and Estelna McCoy and two brothers, Elmer Blackburn Sr. and Willard Blackburn.
     He proudly served in the United States Army and retired from Griffin Company after 30 years of service as a professional painter.  He is a member of the Fairdale Church of God and has resided in Fairdale for the past 50 years.
