Transcendentalism

•Everything in the world, including human beings, is a reflection of the divine soul. (people, nature, and God are interconnected) The physical facts of the natural world are a doorway to the spiritual or ideal world. Therefore, people can use their intuition to behold God’s spirit revealed in nature or in their own souls

•Faith in the inherent goodness of people leads to an emphasis on self-reliance and individualism. These must outweigh external authority and blind conformity to custom and tradition. Emphasis on social reform and improving people’s lives.

•Spontaneous feelings and intuition are superior to deliberate intellectualism and rationality. Celebration of emotions and the imagination. Belief that intuition can lead to knowledge.
