My name is Jamal Walker, and I am a third-grader. This year, my teacher is giving a Class Hero prize to one person in our class. I know who I want to win this prize. Mary Smith is nice and helpful to everyone. On Juan Rodriguez's first day at our school, Mary helped him find the lunchroom and the library. Even when other kids are noisy and rude, Mary always pays attention in class. I know that most of the class wants Tommy Wright to be the Class Hero because he likes to play jokes.      Why go to the store to buy a gift for a friend? Gifts bought at the store are not very special, and they can cost a lot of money. The best gifts come from the heart, not the store. There are many ways to make a homemade gift for a friend. You could write a book with your friend as the main character. It could be an adventure story, a mystery story, or a scary story. You could even include yourself as one of the characters!

Another idea is to make a bookmark out of a picture of you and your friend together. You could cut a piece of colored paper into the shape of a bookmark and decorate it with markers and stickers. Then, glue the picture onto the bookmark. When you use your imagination, you can create a special gift for your friend, and it will come straight from the heart.
