Since the day on which you started to study Spiritualistic Philosophy, many a new truth has taken root in you. Sometimes you will have asked yourself: Why do I not remember anything about my former lives? Why do I not remember anything about my lives in the spiritworld? Why is it that life on earth is sometimes so hard and difficult? But silently you have decided that you — as a human being — cannot and may not know, with your mind, anything other than what you experience in your present life — that the spirit living in you may occasionally let a vague glimpse of a former life get through to your mind, but if this spirit has not got permission to let you know more about those former lives, your present life will pass without your knowing anything about any former life. Before your spirit is able to let you know anything about any of your previous lives, it must be authorized to dig it up from your sub-consciousness. Only when the spirit, after the death of the physical body, returns to the cosmos, will it be able to look up the hook of all its reincarnations and its lives in the spiritworld, and then remembrance will come back. Completely evil spirits, however, which incarnation after incarnation, do wrong and wrong their fellow-men, do not always get a chance, when, after an evil life, they return to the cosmos to find the hook of their lives and to read up their previous lives. Many of them are so hopelessly lost that they are not esteemed worthy to lift the curtain to their former lives and just as little are they permitted to look into their future. Being judged as unworthy, they are refused — and their strife to free themselves from the muddle of materialism and lewdness, becomes harder and ever harder, inasmuch as the quantity and the weight of the evil—which was after all of their own demand and their own choosing — weighs on their shoulders. As a spirit as well as a human being, they remain fastened and heavy and they are so strongly fixed to the evil radiation of the earth, that even on Doomsday they will not be able to break away from the earth, and that they — together with the earth — having been thrust out of her constellation — will perish in darkness and oblivion. Do not identify these spiritually worthless spirits with persons, who in certain circumstances on earth, are called "unworthy" because, as a matter of conscience, they cannot join certain revolutionary or political movements or a particular creed or sect. Nothing on earth is perfect, and the personal free will, which God has granted every human spirit, is on earth not always granted by those particular leaders of sects, of regime or of fanatical revolutionary movements. The government, whether elected by a majority or by a coup dictate formed by a minority, expects every citizen to respect the leadership and to submit to the laws of the country. If a government is elected by the overwhelming majority, it is the duty of the minority not to protest, but to respect the laws of the majority. But if a minority, as a revolutionary movement, succeeds by violence, it is unavoidable that the outwitted majority will rebel — either active or passive. If passive, the ruling minority will try to suppress the rebellion and thus create active rebellion. The minority will then call the rebels "worthless". But are they really "worthless" before God, these who serve truth, who aim at justice and who serve the interests of their people and their country? Rebellion, insurrection and war happen in the spiritworld too. In the spirit- world are also minorities which want to overturn the majorities. And the earth, on which you dwell, is one of those planets on and around which a violent war is raging between the "worthy" and the "worthless". Rebels from the darkness, who do not remember anything of their former lives are spirits, some of whom might still have a chance to rid themselves of the earthly evils and begin to search for Light — so that the darkness in which they live might disperse, and that they might search for the Wisdom of God, and slowly, but safely, come closer and closer to the Light of God. But most of them are so loaded with failings and vices that they do not even take pains to try to redeem. They do not want to search for light and for wisdom, they do not even realise any more that a book exists in the cosmos which contains the history of all their lives — and of which they have forfeited their right to read. They are irretrievably lost — they have lost the Atom of God, which would still give them the chance to purify, to improve and to rise. This Atom is the property of God, and He took it back to give to some other spirits which are of good intentions — to give them the chance to rise to the Sphere of the Highest Spirits and to live there in Eternal Bliss. But the atmosphere is therewith not cleaned of spirits of rebellion and of darkness. Inasmuch as the atmosphere swells, the number of rebellious spirits from the underworld increase which cling to the earthly muddle of evil, vice and lewdness. They live as spirits and they live also in human shape, and they get their victims from those who want to rise. They bring the Karma to reincarnated good spirits, for which Karma these have asked as atonement — but they also bring them suffering, unasked for. And there lies the strife between low spirits and those which are already perfected or are searching for purification. The war cries and the battle songs of those low and incorrigible spirits are not very inspiring — they are cries of despair and gloom, wherewith these spirits will try to get a delay of their death sentence — and when the earth will feel the shock, which has torn her off her rotation, there will be heard a lamentation as has never been heard before. All this is going to happen in an atmosphere full of clouds, and darkness shall prevail. But later a new sun shall arise, the Sun of the Light of God, and all the good spirits shall rejoice in the Compassion of the Lord Who shall reward good with good. but Who shall let the evil dig its own grave. As by magic — those who are good will find themselves on that plane, which is adequate with their evolution. There they will meet spirits of equal degree which will understand them and with whom hey will live in harmony. On this, their own plane, there is no evil and no more failings, and should small slips occur with some of them, they will forgive one another — but together on the same plane each of them will have the same virtues and the same small imperfections and shortcomings. A book, in which the life stories of all spirits living in the cosmos are written down, is kept there. Here they will again meet the spirits of those they have loved on earth — whether these belong to a higher or a lower sphere. But the one looks for the other and then they chat about life on earth which is left behind, with its troubles, its strife, its suffering, its defeats and its conquests. However, they are more interested in plans for their future, plans of co-operating — of initiating spirits of lower planes — to receive points, lessons and counsel from spirits of higher spheres — and, last but not least, to improve more and more, to shed more and more faults and defects, and thus to purify more and more. As long as they do not dive down to the lowest planes, they will meet no one whom they could call "worthless" on those planes they have overcome. But, when spirits from higher planes call on them, they are astonished to be called "my brothers" or "dear children". Between themselves they will ask: "We know that we are not yet perfected — but are we already enjoying Spiritual Bliss?" Everyone who is of good will and of good intentions is able to reach the planes of Spiritual Bliss. Those, who permit themselves to be misled by evil, to commit evil — who look only for temporal physical enjoyments — who only wish to relish and to profit — who never think of their neighbors needs and difficulties — who only think of and struggle for their own personal wellbeing, without ever considering whether they make their fellow-men suffer or make them miserable — those, who only aim at material possession, irrespective of the fact that they take other people's belongings — those, who merely think how to satisfy their physical appetites and tastes, to always have plentiful and unnecessary food and drink—those who take refuge in drugs to forget their suffering — those, to whom it never occurs to give from their own abundance to help their destitute and needy fellow-beings, help them to appease their hunger — those who never find a word of comfort or of upliftment for a sick or otherwise suffering person — all those are the really unworthy spirits, running around on earth in a human body. But also those, who have shed their physical bodies and live as a spirit on or close to the earth — which are not able to break away from earth because they still want to enjoy physical, earthly pleasures and lusts — those which pester reincarnated spirits and try to encourage them to evil deeds, to instigate them to sensual pleasures, to drink, to superfluous food, to luxuries, etc. — to instigate them to jealousy, envy, selfishness, theft or even murder — those, too, are unworthy spirits, which try to catch and to drag with them down into the bottomless pit those whom they have misled, and therewith make them lose their Eternal Life and Eternal Bliss. Look around and consider who should be counted worthy! They are those parents who sacrifice much to bring up their children and help them to find their way in this difficult life — those children who sacrifice their own lives for the sakes of their old sick parents, to provide for them in their old age — they are those who bring a ray of light by good words and kind help to unhappy people, in hospitals, in old age homes and in orphanages. They are those who visit prisoners, drunkards and others who are going astray and try to help by their example, by their counsel, their loving-kindness, to change the mind of those unfortunate ones and to influence them to choose a better path of living. They are those teachers who train their pupils to order, discipline, philanthropy, humanity and respect for their fellow-beings. It is the employer who does not overwork his staff and the employee who works and who respects his employer. And particularly are there the legion of those Apostles of Love, who, without any claim to reciprocated service or compensation or even gratitude — proclaim the Words of God — those, who go unknown among the people to spread the good seeds of love, helpfulness and compassion. But it is also the host of invisible good spirits which, in spiritualistic churches and associations, come to remind the congregation there of the Laws of God — which, by the help of a medium, indicate the evils and the shortcomings of their lives — draw their attention to the ways of low inspirations, given them by unworthy, low spirits from the underworld — instruct them in the ways of purification, rising and evolution — tell them of the truth, and of their former lives on earth and in the cosmos—tell them about the life of Eternal Spiritual Bliss waiting for them in the cosmos, after a good life of love, of vices and shortcomings shed, and of virtues adhered to — raise compassion in them for unworthy spirits, and show less evolved human beings the road to liberation from evil. Apostles of Love and Spiritualists, who proclaim the true belief — pray, during their Divine Service: for relief of the suffering of their fellow-beings, for evolution of those who struggle after Light and Wisdom, for receptivity of the good, for those who still live in darkness. The radiations of those Divine Services extend to all human spirits, either still on earth or living in the cosmos—but only a few will feel them here on earth. Unfortunately, this does not stop such spirits, which work themselves deeper and deeper into the darkness, but there will also be such which advance higher and higher into the Light of God. The one works for his ruin and his destruction — the other one works for his purification, his evolution, his Eternal Bliss. Pray that those who live in darkness will in this darkness see the Light, will reform and improve, will shed their vices, will develop virtues, will cultivate love, so that for them the "Gates to Eternal Life" will also be opened. Pray, also, that the work of the Spirits of Light, their work of Love and Compassion among the reincarnated spirits, may show results — and especially you — God's Children, Apostles of Love — put your hands into the hands of your invisible friends from the cosmos — co-operate with them, therewith to have the plans of God fulfilled on earth, so that many reincarnated brothers — together with you — may live in Eternal Bliss, in the Light of God!
You have previously been taught that the spirit keeps all the experiences of its reincarnated lives, whilst living in the cosmos, and also keeps all those which it gathered there — but that the reincarnated spirit remembers — neither of its previous lives in a human body, nor of its lives in the cosmos, as spirit; that all its previous knowledge during its sojourn in the cosmos as well as during its sojourn in a human body subsides into its sub-consciousness — and that this sub-consciousness is that part of the spirit which is also called "soul". Into this "soul" then subsides all remembrance, whenever the spirit reincarnates, but yet it carries all this spiritual wealth intact through all its various reincarnations. The soul of the human spirit is its treasury; all experiences which it had to undergo during its many reincarnations, all lessons obtained from these experiences, all wisdom which thence resulted the consciousness of the various planes of evolution to which this spirit evolved — its belief, its faith, its love, its compassion and all its other virtues are stored there. The spirit is able to enter this treasury during the times of its discarnation in the cosmos, and there it may recollect — in the book of its past — all incarnations, all struggles, all sufferings, all sacrifices, which it had to undergo during its various reincarnations. Once reborn in a human body, a magnetic or hypnotic hand seems to have touched it, which now prevents the spirit from remembering the past. In special cases, however, the remembrance of some former reincarnations is so strong that part of it remains during a new reincarnation, and that the human brain catches it, so that not only the spirit but the human being as well will get the information. The struggle of the believer, the mystic, the occultist, the searcher for truth and wisdom, results from the task of lifting the veil which hides the past, to develop his mediumship, his dormant gift. This is not always an easy or even an agreeable task. He, who wants to lift the veil of the unknown, must first of all have belief and faith, must believe that he is a spirit, must believe in his Spiritual Father, just as he believes in his physical father. He must believe with conviction. He must not in the least doubt the words which reach him — through the mouth of mediums — from the High Spheres, by messengers sent by the Lord God. He must also know how to distinguish between messages from low spirits — spirits without purification and evolution — and those messages which are given by purified, evolved spirits. His own life on earth must be untainted and immaculate, and he must be a model to other people. He must neither harm nor hurt his fellow-beings, nor must he covet their belongings. He must be satisfied with his social position. He must spread love in order to receive love. He must assist his fellow-beings who are in difficulties — if they are worthy of his help — just as he himself may perhaps one day want help in his need. He must forgive those who wronged him; he must not hale anybody, just as he will not want anybody to hate him. He must not take revenge for any wrong done to him if he does not want others to avenge themselves. If he knows of any evil deed committed by him, he must try to put it right. He must be thankful to His Spiritual Father for his suffering as well as for his joys, because suffering is penance and atonement for former shortcomings, possibly dating from previous lives, and joys are the reward for leading a good life. Do not claim too many pleasures for the body — do not claim rewards for good deeds done to your neighbors, because he, who gets his rewards on earth, cannot expect rewards in the cosmos; in that case he would have been paid twice which would make him a dishonest spirit. Ask your Divine Father for humility and for submission, so that His Divine Grace may descend upon you, and you will already have here on earth a foretaste of the great happiness waiting for you in Eternal Life. Pour not your grief and your afflictions out before images of stone — never lament and ask for riches and wealth — but pray before your lighted candle; ask your Highest Lord and Master to show you the path to more and more improvement, ask him to let more and ever more love, helpfulness and compassion pervade your soul to help you to abolish evil deeds and instead develop goodness and virtues. Ask Him to let you realise yourself as a spirit and to instigate you to further the concerns of your spirit, to arrange your spiritual life in such a way that you always gather more wisdom and will rise, finally, to join the hosts of God's Spirits. Such is a mystic life. Such a life gives the spirit strength and willpower — develops ecstasies for everything that is beautiful, sublime and idealistic. Thus you will become a better human being and a better spirit, which will approach closer and closer to the Light of God. And when you — after a life of mysticism, as described above — return to the cosmos, you will remember the spiritual plane on which you lived before this last reincarnation, and you will wonder that you should arrive on another plane where everything is more beautiful, more refined and more perfect. Nature is more luxuriant here, more colorful, the spirits which are living here think, feel and act just as you do. There are no processes of suffering, such as you have known on earth — there is no struggle for existence — there are no subversive actions by fellow-beings — there is peace and there is love. Sometimes the spirit on this plane will feel happy to return to lower planes, there to help quench struggle and combat — to incite spirits there to analyze themselves and thus learn to know their inner self — to encourage them to love their fellow-beings, to rouse their compassion — to draw their attention to the cause of struggles and difficulties — to teach them to revere and to venerate their Spiritual Father and to be thankful for His indication to show them the path to purification from evil by the experiences, which He lets them undergo. This spirit will feel even more happy when spirits from Higher Spheres will come and treat it like a brother — when they will initiate it in so far unknown objects from Higher Planes — they might bring instructions in the Name of the Christ spirit, or the Highest Holy Spirit or even of the Divine Father Himself, which this spirit will have to execute on earth or on any other planet, whither it be sent, where reincarnated spirits live, to help those reincarnated spirits to find and to cultivate mysticism — just as this spirit has received it in its own last incarnation. This life as a mystic was not an easy one, and life as spirit in the cosmos is not easy either, but is more refined, more gentle than it used to be on earth. As spirit it will notice many things which it never observed during its life as a human being. In one creed the spirit will find believers to be calm and praying and meditating with perfect conviction. In another creed or sect, the believers will work themselves into a kind of trance, and beseech and implore the Lord to glut them with goods and with profusion. In still another sect, the believers work themselves into hysterical fits, start dancing, and it all ends in a orgy of debauchery and voluptuousness. And some believers even kneel before figures of stone, to pray for help and support and for recovery from sickness. But only at few Divine Services are prayers sent up to the Divine Spirit, to the Highest Holy Spirit, to the Spirit of Christ or to any other High and Holy Spirits — by whom their prayers are heard and examined. There their requests will be granted, should the petitioner be worthy of it, but for those who are unworthy, or for those who have to work out their Karma for their own purification, not every request asked can always be granted. The reincarnated spirit, who on earth, as a spirit, has to fulfil a mission, has to observe, for instance, prostitutes — to observe nightclubs of evil reputation — to observe young people who are searching and trying to find their way but who are on a false track — observe young mothers with illegitimate children — see families pining away through intemperance, see bashful poverty not daring to ask for alms — see beggars who live in abundance — observe employers who exploit their staff — see employees with revolutionary tendencies — observe in many countries a race for armament and equipment to annihilate and to destroy the peoples on earth observe distribution and spreading of base principles which will result in disorder, unchastely, depravity and brutality — observe scientists who develop and invent interplanetary space rockets and also gasses and weapons which can be used in the air, under water and on land, not only to destroy earth herself before her allotted time, but perturbing her process of rotation and thus to make her burst. But there are also reincarnated spirits who help to further God's intentions. Those are mystics — they practice love, helpfulness and compassion. They visit sick people, encourage them, give them hope for recovery and confidence in their future. They visit drunkards and try to make them realise the evils and the difficulties to which they apportion their next of kin, and they will try to help them to overcome their failing and to find the right path. They go to see voluptuaries and plunderers, visit materialistic people and fortune-hunters and point out to them that they also have a spiritual life to care for. They visit prisoners and criminals and show them that they have to take the memory of their evil deeds with them into the cosmos, into the spiritworld — that death is non-existent—that the spirit keeps alive after the death of the body — and that they have to accept suffering to pay for their sins. Discarnated spirits are also doing mission work on earth. They observe the good and the evil in people, who think, talk and act according to their plane of evolution. The spirit lives, during its first incarnations, in a "tunnel of darkness and ignorance", until it gets enlightenment by experience. The Light becomes Wisdom, and the human spirit starts to unfold. But this process asks for many incarnations, much suffering for evildoing, much mental grief and much struggling for his existence as human being — until at last the goal is reached and he understands why it was all necessary. Then he is a mystic and seeks for Wisdom, which is actually the Light of God. When a mystic spirit, a purified entity, incarnates in a human body to do its mission work, then this spirit has also to forget all its pasts. But in its subconscious mind, in its soul, everything is kept. The radiation of this wisdom influences the human being, in whom this spirit has reincarnated. Helped by the influence of spirits from the cosmos, he attends to the work for which he was born. In this incarnation he does not know what his mission is. But often he is an apostle of love who, by his devotion — his willpower — his endurance — his perseverance — the realization of his mission — his idealism — his great spiritual love — his fidelity — his sense of honor — his mystic considerations — will show his fellow-beings the path to discriminate between darkness and the Light of God. It also happens that such spirits, by choosing the Spiritualistic Philosophy or by practicing Spiritualism, become the mouthpiece of spirits from High Spheres, which proclaim the Laws of God — spread morality and teach people on earth about their nature — their essence — their spirit and their soul — their work in the cosmos and, finally, show them the path which will lead them to Eternal Bliss. Know then that the human spirit, just as the physical body, is in possession of certain organs — but that the physical organs are visible and the spiritual ones are invisible. Know that the soul is a part of the spirit — that the soul is the place of sensitivity where the entire spiritual wealth is stored. This treasure consists of the remembrance of the past, of strife and suffering to evolve and to rise in the spiritual spheres — it is the wisdom, derived from experience during the various incarnations of the spirit, its virtues and gifts, its love, its helpfulness and its compassion. Know that for all good spirits which are of good will and good intentions, their treasure, their soul, their subconscious mind, is accessible in each discarnation to make free use of all that is preserved there. Know, also, that the Creator can take away His Atom and will do so, from those who are incorrigible, base, low spirits without the will to rise, to climb the ladder of evolution. Especially bear in mind that nothing can be lost. Everyone has his own subconscious mind, wherein all remembrance and all spiritual treasures are kept, and that good spirits, whenever they return to the cosmos after discarnating, may dig up from their sub consciousness everything which they think worth while.
