People have a habit of analyzing their fellow-beings to find out their faults and defects. Thus they become acquainted with their neighbors shortcomings, compare them with their good points and then draw their conclusions. Some people do this consciously, some are quite unaware of it. A person, having thus dissected his fellow-man, either wants him for his friend, or else he rejects him. In most cases he rejects him because he does not find sufficient good points in him, or, because he thinks him to be much higher in evolution than he feels himself to be. In the first case, the fellow-man will not be able to understand him, because he has as yet not collected sufficient wisdom; in the second case, it is he who cannot understand his neighbour because this neighbour is conversant with things of higher wisdom, which now he is not able to understand and follow up. Such conditions do not mean hostility or hate between these two — they just do not care for one another — they are like the equal poles of two loadstones which repel each other. Only people of the same spiritual progress, with the same virtues and shortcomings, understand one another — they belong to the same spiritual sphere, they attract each other. The degree of evolution is decisive for their spiritual understanding. They have the same radiation, the same feelings and the same thoughts — they are in harmony because they belong to the same spiritual degree of evolution and they brought an atom of this plane or sphere from out of the cosmos with them to earth and this atom is present in their physical bodies. This does not mean, however, that they will keep it there during their life on earth. One reincarnated spirit purifies and evolves quicker than another. The one may, under certain physical or spiritual conditions, be more susceptible and more receptive to spiritual values. Circumstances and experiences may let the one acquire a higher evolution through spiritual suffering — and an unforeseen chasm opens between them. They do not understand one another any more. The one has risen spiritually, has improved, has reached a higher spiritual sphere. These developments bring misunderstanding between the two, the one has a feeling of grief and harshness, the other one a feeling of compassion and sympathy. The one, who is less evolved, will suffer — and, if they happen to be husband and wife, a married couple — the one will try to get a better understanding and the other one will try to acquire more wisdom. He will start to find out what his shortcomings are, where he has to change and to overcome his faults, to again reach mutual solidarity and harmony. But there is also a possibility that the lesser developed, or evolved one, is a refractory spirit which remains obstinate and stubborn, which does not want to shed its shortcomings, and imagines solidarity to be submission to the will of the partner, who is only interested in material things and has no regard for spiritual advancement. Thus a marriage may split asunder because these two people are no more on the same spiritual plane. When their lives on earth have ended they go to different spheres in the cosmos according to their evolution and wisdom. Their radiation, their vibrations are proportional to the wisdom they have collected and accommodated to the rate of appropriate vibrations and wavelengths of the corresponding cosmos spheres — just as on earth they had to submit to the radiation of their sphere of evolution. On earth these conditions are called: incompatibility and unsuitableness of character. Some people try to accommodate themselves to these conditions by submission and try to keep harmony in their daily life by mutual understanding, whilst others are stubborn and thus create a state of rebellion, where neither of them is the victor, but where both of them are suffering . This suffering may include: firstly, atonement for the grief which they cause each other; secondly, the price for acquiring virtues; thirdly, the price for an opportunity to gain a better understanding of their mutual spiritual suffering. Many friends separate or drift apart because after some time they do not understand one another any more. Many a marriage is broken because the one partner is lacking in virtues wisdom. evolution and the willpower to improve, and thus keeps the other partner from rising. The human being analyses his fellow-beings. imagining to do this according to their character and behavior as human beings, but actually he analyses them according to the development of their spirit. What is the human character? Does it belong to the physical body? Does the physical body collect experiences? What is the physical body? It is a monument of physical matter. It is born lifeless, unless a spirit has entered it. The body is nothing without the spirit. The spirit is the intellect, which thinks, which speaks and acts. The body is an instrument entrusted to the spirit during its reincarnation on earth. The brain belongs to the physical body and is the earthly agent or medium which the reincarnated spirit uses to express its own thoughts and feelings, and also to register what it intercepts from without. The vocal chords are the instrument which the spirit uses to express its thoughts in words and to let the surroundings know its impressions of the inner and outer world. Everything, that the spirit sees and hears, it expresses according to the understanding of its plane of evolution. Everything above this understanding belongs to a higher sphere of evolution and the spirit may try to understand. Everything, which belongs to planes lower than those of its conception, the spirit knows. The spirit keeps its knowledge, its experiences and its wisdom in its sub-consciousness and keeps it all in its life in the cosmos. As long as a spirit is on earth, everything is seen, heard and felt as a human being. Very few people realise the fact that their real self is a spirit which is born for a short while in a human body — neither do they realise that they have to fulfil a certain task during their life on earth. Very few people realise that they have to go through a very hard school, the main purpose of which is: "to learn to know your self, analyze your own self, come to understand the duality in you. Purify your spirit, collect wisdom and virtues and get rid of your shortcomings. It is well to analyze other people's characters and behavior, to learn to detect their faults and shortcomings. But let this also be the way to detect your own self and to convince yourself that you too are a reincarnated spirit, living on earth in a human body, to atone by spiritual suffering for evil done in previous incarnations, that you, too, have to live a life on earth which actually is a "school of experiences"; experiences, which will bring you not only sorrow and suffering, but will also, by these experiences, let you gain much wisdom. As you understand all this and let it penetrate your being, you will comprehend why you are born on earth in a human body. Try to understand that — as a spirit — you are the bearer of an Atom of the Invisible Life of the spiritworld, that you, as a spirit, have lived in the infinite cosmos and that, after each reincarnation in a human body, you return to this cosmos; that each good reincarnation is a gradual purification, which brings you each time a step closer to your Divine Creator, that each good life as a human being gives your soul brighter radiation, and that ultimately you will become so light and so fluidic that you will be worthy of living in the Light of God; that after reaching this stage, you will no longer be obliged to purify on earth through new reincarnations, that you have no longer to be a scholar in the "school of purification", but from now on you are a teacher to advise other re incarnated spirits, show them their path, the path which you have followed and reached the goal, to live now for all Eternity in the Bliss of the Divine Light. Learn to know yourself as a spirit and you will gain wisdom. As you are able to analyze yourself, just as you analyze people around you, you might perhaps realise more and greater evil in yourself than you find in other people. Then you will feel a bond of friendship between yourself and all those on earth who suffer and strive; you will no more hate anybody because you will know that the one whom you hate, or to whom you bear a grudge, might in a former life have been your father or your mother, your brother or sister, or even your wife or your husband. Then you shall harbor love for your friends as well as for your enemies, because you will feel the great magic power of Love. Then you will realise that love is the greatest fount of strength and vigor which God gives us, and that without love you can never reach this life in the Light of God, in the Sphere of Eternal Bliss. Then you will develop charity, moral and physical. You shall bring comfort and help to worthy people who are disconsolate, sick or un-provided for, and good deeds done to others, your Spiritual Father will reward ten-fold. Then compassion will be a very important part of your life. You will forgive your foes and meet them with love in your heart, because you will realise that they are of lower evolution, that their plane of evolution lies far below your own plane and that they, subject to the vibration of their own cosmic sphere, are not able to act differently. You will also know that the time is close when they will feel remorse in their hearts and whereupon they — by spiritual and physical suffering — shall undergo their process of purification and evolution, which will ultimately lead them too to realise that they have no more any feelings of hate and revenge. You will realise that the time is close when they will start to work for their future, their new home in the Infinite Eternity, for their own Bliss. Therefore, you people on earth: learn to know yourselves, analyze your spiritual selves. The concerns of your earthly body, which you pursue during your life as human beings, are temporal and of short duration. It is evidence of being primitive to work only for the improvement of your physical needs and your own concerns and to neglect and disregard the spirit. He, who furthers the concerns of the spirit, works in the service of God, his Divine Father in all Eternity.
It is a noteworthy study to trace how the reincarnated human spirits judge their own selves, their fellow-beings and life on earth. and thus to realise the chaos wherein they live. It is a long road until such a reincarnated human spirit is able to know himself — to understand his own spirit. But he analyses his fellow-beings, from whose words and deeds he may extract many moral lessons. Those lessons merge together with the experiences of his own life and also with those of his struggles and sufferings which arise from all these influences. All this is very valuable for him. He reaches a point in life from where he analyses, not only human beings, but also "Life on Earth" with its causes and effects. Thus he becomes a quiet judge and critic about his life on earth and draws from there new and higher conclusions. How is life on earth? Is it always the Creator who is leading the people? Has everyone got his own right to self-determination? And is everyone leading his own self? If everyone is leading his own self, does he then follow his own path in life? Is he thus living his own self as he builds his life? He sees his fellow-beings, each of them with his own feelings, thoughts and convictions. About each of them he forms his own divergent thoughts, values and convictions — for each one differs from all others in thoughts, words and deeds. In actual fact he sees the living world as a chaos, where people—differing in feelings, thoughts, words and deeds — clash and collide. Even differences in unexpressed feelings and thoughts create vibrations which will repel other persons because there is no harmony between them. Difference in expressed ideology: Divine Worship, political, economical, social points of view, result in debates, sharp sophistry, quibbling hints on the one side — on the other side it is the intention to force ones own convictions upon the other — then vice versa on that side again, the attempt to discredit those convictions. Ideologies are forced upon people without any conviction, upon faint-hearted weaklings or troublemakers, or adventurers who are striving for material matters — who worship the golden calf — but who are without any idealistic or philosophical understanding and desire. The earth is really a symbol of chaos, and the people are so used to living there that all their vibrations of thoughts, feelings and theories get vexed accordingly. They are hardened to the happenings around them, which contain little good but much evil. The spiritual cover become set, so that they are now unable to feel the cosmic rays which show them the right path. These radiations are spiritual. They want to influence the human spirit, to make a person understand spiritual values, such as love, compassion, charity, truthfulness, righteousness, loyalty, and many other virtues which are precious spiritual achievements and are — after the death of the physical body — taken along into the cosmos. The Lord of the Heavens never omits to send purified spirits 'down to earth in human bodies who, with their sensitive covering, are able to catch the vibrations from their spheres of evolution in the spiritworld and to sow them amongst the people in order to impart to them the Love and the Compassion of God, to proclaim the Divine Laws and the Eternal Spiritual Life in the Cosmos for all reincarnated spirits who are of good will. Earth is a spiritually dark planet and the higher reincarnated spirits are the instruments the organs of speech, the mediums from God Himself whom still Higher Spirits are using to show the people on earth the path, which they have to follow to enable them to live for all eternity in the Light of God. These High Spirits bring Light into the darkness of the earth and to the reincarnated spirits who live there. This Light is wisdom through experience, through purification through atonement for evil, and it gives the spirit a chance to rise in the cosmos to higher spheres and to come closer to the Light of God. But people on earth are divided and in discord, and the chaos of feelings, thoughts, principles and deeds is so immense, that persons without good convictions will get entangled or under the influence of an orator who, in most cases, treads the path of materialism, of own advantage, ambition, arrogance and pride, but cares not in the least for the spiritual needs of his fellow-beings. These thus deviate from their own path to serve material earthly matters and not God. Earth is, after all, a planet of low evolution, of low instincts and of materialistic cravings. The struggle between good and evil is ill-starred and disproportionate, and the number of malevolent people on this earth is much higher than of those who are of good will and who prefer spiritual, eternal values to temporal, worldly satisfaction. The good people who are scattered among the people on earth are in the minority, but they have gained Eternity. The evil-doers, the vicious, the unevolved and low people who include most of earth's population, may be in the majority, but they are temporal, not eternal, as long as they serve the evil and prefer temporal, earthly possessions to eternal spiritual values. They are the drifting crowd who are impressed by temporal, worldly possessions, by material prosperity on earth. They are like iron shavings, clinging to a load-stone and ever unable to break away. They are incited by an ideology which prevents them from developing love and they will, under the influence of slogans about worldly affairs, deviate more and more from their final destination in the cosmos; they are — driven by instigating inciters — capable of anything; they do not respect the convictions of other people but will by force and tyranny, cheat and murder; they will intimidate people of divergent opinions, even crush and destroy them; they have no restraint to enthrone their imposters or even themselves, and possess sufficient haughtiness to venerate them. Under the name of "liberty" the total dictatorship is instituted. With the magic word "democracy" liberty is subdued, with the slogan "brotherly love" fellow-beings are hated, with the slogan "against capitalism" personal belongings are expropriated. With the cry: "the rights of men for everyone" people of divergent opinions are boycotted and deprived of their rights. With misleading ideologies these agitators try — by instigation and by force — to conquer the world and to introduce complete dictatorship. However, the Lord God grants everybody the right of self-determination. Whilst spirits of the lower cosmos spheres and on earth walk all the roads of evil and practice evil, they have the opportunity to look for the good path, to realise their wrong doings and to eject them, to acquire virtues and ultimately to receive the Grace of God. Life on earth is for many people the mirror of the committed evil. Temptations of many kinds entice them, many obstacles arc to be overcome, and many a one will find himself ensnared by the evil and must try to free himself. It is of no avail for him whether friends or relations help him — it is of no avail whether fellow-beings forgive him his evildoings, his unkindness towards (hem; it is of no avail even whether God will forgive him—he carries the radiation of evil through all his life on earth and takes it with him into the cosmos. He can only acquit himself of those evil radiations by sincere remorse and repentance of his evildoings, by doing penance, by rejecting accepted misleading theories and by choosing the good path — in a word: he has to choose his own path, to become himself in feelings, thoughts. words and deeds. The path of evil was a hard school for him, who at last found the good path. The various views of life which he has experienced, and which he has temporarily accepted as the supposed common weal of the people on earth, have shown him also the reverse, that is: life as "spirit", the acquisition of eternal life in the spiritworld, by leading an exemplary life in (he temporal human body on earth. These experiences — although they have brought him much sorrow and mental suffering — brought him also the ability to analyze his fellow-beings, to distinguish between their good and their evil aspects and to estimate them according to the degree of their evolution. He now understands why there is such a chaos of divergent currents amongst the people on earth. Now he understands why the Creator permits such conditions to continue, why everyone has to find his own path to liberation. Now he understands too that primitive reincarnated spirits are apt to neglect their spiritual concerns and to tend towards material wellbeing, material values, vices and inclinations. He still has to learn to distinguish between good and evil. He has to learn to place love above hate, forgiveness above revenge. He must become sensitive to spiritual values, to sublime cosmic rays. He must undergo sufferings to balance his wrongdoings and to purify. He has to collect wisdom, to be worthy of seeing the Light in the darkness. He has to reject the chaos which he observes on earth. He must come to know the crowd of misleaders, must expose their destroying theories which are a degrading for mankind, must expose them to public contempt. He has to ascend his own path of life, the path to which his inner self, influenced by the spiritual Light of Wisdom from out of the cosmos, directs him. Then he will feel "Love and Peace". Peace, because he has reached the aim, the purpose for which he came on earth in a human body: wisdom, purification and liberation from evil. Love, which developed in him through his own experiences and his knowledge of men. This love now is directed towards the reincarnated spirits, who — as he did beforehand — stumbling and trudging along, are trying, through the labyrinth of evil, to find their own path, their own experience, the path which directs them to Eternal Bliss and the Eternal Light of God.
Many people have a wrong conception of the word: freedom. Freedom actually means to extricate oneself from all misunderstood and imposed doctrines, whether they be of political, ecclesiastical, social or any other character. Freedom is the experience of your individual feelings, meaning: your own Self. To be free, does not necessarily include to be an anarchist. It is the duty of everyone to respect the laws of his country, it is a duty to let every creed practice its own ethics and customs, it is a duty to respect the social standing of your neighbour. But there is the right of the individual to be his own self, to live by his own convictions, without disturbing the feelings and opinions of other people. Many people presume that they are their own selves, that they live according to their own convictions, but actually they are under the influence of certain philosophical tendencies and defend principles which are superimposed upon them. A mystic, scientist or a philosopher are perhaps born for their mission. But each belongs to a certain sphere of evolution; the one to a higher, the other to a lower plane; every one of them possesses a certain amount of knowledge which permits him to proclaim: "This is what I know". Among them are those, who proclaim the truth, who are acquainted with the Laws of God towards their fellow-beings, in short, they are reincarnated spirits of a higher evolution, who look for more wisdom, who try to come closer and ever closer to the Wisdom of God, to be at last received into the Light of God. Still, there are other reincarnated spirits who are proclaiming a fake-wisdom, who lead people to a false track; they stand chiefly below the lowest degree of evolution. They will never build up a theory that is understandable and acceptable. Their future is to destroy, to smash what others have built up constructively. They are like an engine which pours forth dangerous fumes which clothe the whole surrounding in a dirty mist, and they do nothing to expel this slander. They are like a whirlwind which tries to knock down everything and leaves destruction whosesoever it has passed. Among these two extremes are those who agree one day with one side and the next day with the other side. There are others who accept a small part of the one doctrine and a large part of the other one, and vice versa those who accept a great part of the first doctrine and a small part of the latter one. Many — even most human beings — are vacillating between those two: wisdom and fake-wisdom. Why are people so imprudent? Why do they vacillate between these two extremes: the Lord God and uttermost evil? It seems to be like the annual pilgrimage in Echternach, where the pilgrims take two steps forwards and then one step backwards — they lengthen their march by halves, with three steps they advance only one step. The pilgrims take it as a tradition and nobody asks why this is done. But is this snails-pace motion not a replica of the process of evolution of the reincarnated spirit? After doing two good deeds in succession, he does a wrong one afterwards. And if he only could, after two successive good deeds eliminate the following evil, thought, word or deed, he could reduce the amount of his incarnations by seventy-five per cent. The road to eternity is also done at a snails-pace in the pilgrimage, the march to purification. The advancing human spirit will always find obstacles on his way, only they are put there by himself. These obstacles are the wrongs done in former incarnations and also those which he is still occasionally doing. The time which he needs to remove those obstacles is the time which the strife, the struggle and the suffering take up, all of which he endures during his life in a human body. He, who did little wrong during his lives on earth, will not contract severe diseases, he will not fall ill mentally or physically. He might feel sad when beloved persons have to leave this earth to pass over into the cosmos, he might feel lonely. But he does not worry anymore about his further life. He feels: an invisible hand helps him to go through his life easily, and for all the difficulties, that develop near and around him, to press him down and to crush him, there is always someone to open his eyes and to give him the chance to avoid the evil. Why is all this? Why is there so much difference for people towards good deeds, words and thoughts? Why cannot it be otherwise? It cannot-because it is the law of Evolution for the individual and there are no spirits which, during their evolution-process, are entirely free of sin and wrongdoings. He, who passes his first incarnation as a human being, is not conscious of the fact that — starting with this incarnation — he is to undergo a process of evolution, and that he is on earth to gain wisdom, honesty, love and compassion. The reincarnated spirit is attracted by the earthly radiation of matter and desires. He wants his share in these earthly amenities, he wants his place in society, he wants to live in luxury. He wants to enjoy life and to get rich. He wants an exalted position and to be an important person who lords it over the crowd. And he uses every possible means to reach this goal. He starts carefully, trying not to hurt people. But, inasmuch as people of his own standard of evolution cross his intentions and arouse in him feelings of envy, jealousy, grudge, selfishness, and so forth, in just as much feelings of all kinds of depravities awaken in him. He is not fighting anymore with the arms of fairness and justice and brotherliness, but he now uses more dangerous weapons: scheming, intriguing, slander, lies, insinuations etc., are now the main weapons — he does not care which he uses as long as he achieves his purpose. He has as yet no knowledge of his spiritual home in the cosmos. This kind of warfare produces many shortcomings and evil deeds. And when he — under the oppressive burden of his experiences on earth — realises his condition and tries to rise, he has to pay for all his wrongdoings. Without repentance and atonement he will not be able to purify and to rise. There is much mental and spiritual suffering as well, often coupled with physical sickness. It is not sufficient that, in the Name of God, a priest orders you to pray and then tells you: "Your sins are forgiven". He too. whom you have wronged, may have forgiven you. This will be of comfort to you now you are sure that he does not hate you any longer or wants his revenge. But as for the spirit, this will not satisfy you. The guilt is still there. Forgiveness is not purification — it is only a gift which you have received and which will give you courage and confidence. But the spirit is not satisfied — remembrance is still there, qualms of conscience about your wrongdoings are still there, the black spots in your aura have not yet disappeared. Purification is necessary to free you from memory and remorse. Purification is only obtained by spiritual suffering. Spiritual suffering is the driving force to purification. It arouses pity in you for those who suffer the same difficulties and troubles as you do. Pity is the gate to spiritual love and to moral charity and helpfulness, to forgiving compassion. How quickly a person progresses on the path to purification and evolution once he has learned to love his fellow-beings? Then one shortcoming after the other are overcome and virtues are developed. Quietly the temptations for luxury and worldly pleasures disappear. The human being is no longer a know-all or a conceited headstrong person. He will still occasionally trespass from the main road and take a side road and he loses time by this deviation. Then he might encounter an obstacle which helps him to find his way back to the main road. If there are difficulties in his life, he laments about them, forgetting that each difficulty is the result of his own wrongdoing, for which he has to pay by suffering. Meanwhile, experience gained during his successive reincarnations, rendered him stronger and wiser, and he now avoids putting more stumble-stones on his path through life. He is now well trained for wisdom thus gained, he has brought many a sacrifice and undergone much hard suffering. Once he has reached maturity, the human spirit understands so many things which were formerly not understood by him. Thus he now realises that many slogans are current which mislead people; that people are often incited to serve individual needs, but seldom contribute to the welfare, the spiritual unfoldment and the happiness of the population. He now realises that the multitude of people without evolution are the victims of others without evolution, who mislead and misuse their fellow-beings to serve the "golden calf", the earthly matter, but do not serve the spirit. With the slogan "freedom" people are brought to slavery and dictatorship, whilst the same misleaders undertake nothing to bring the multitude to "freedom from evil". They do not want this kind of freedom and are not even able to achieve it because their spiritual permittivity still harbours hate and vengeance, and there is the proof that these leaders are sources of evil and in no way sources of good intentions. Close and around those misleaders we find reincarnated spirits who look with pity and compassion at those multitudes and at their misled leaders. They realise the cause of these conditions and see the effect too. Where-so-ever they are able to do so, they sow the seeds of good and save those who went astray from the flock: those who want to conquer the real freedom by loosening themselves from the evil spirits of this earth. Experience teaches them: many are called, but few are chosen. All people of good will follow the march to the Light of God. follow the example of the pilgrims of Echternach: two steps forwards and one backwards; the road is long, but ultimately ends in Eternal Bliss.
