Medieval Feast Day

All cultures have feasts. The celebrations serve to break up the circle of a year and have for centuries made daily life a bit more tolerable as people found an excuse to eat, drink, and be merry. During the Middle Ages, feasts were held to commemorate a saint, a wedding or funeral, during the adventus, the arrival of a king, or within a chivalrous tournament. Feast celebrations became very public affairs involving all levels of the feudal society, yet class distinctions remained an important element when participating in a feast day.

To conclude our study of the Middle Ages we will have our own Feast Day celebration on Wednesday, Oct 10th and Thursday, Oct. 11th. Each of you will need to bring a product and information to share with the class about some aspect of life in the Middle Ages. In previous years, students have made Medieval recipes, taught a dance, and performed a musical number straight from the Middle Age.

You will first need to choose a topic of interest from the list below and in what product form you will share this information with the class. All topics and products will need teacher approval before you begin. Your product is due on your scheduled presentation day, either Wednesday or Thursday of next week. What you bring must be authentic to the Middle Ages and focus on a cultural element from the time. This means you must spend some time researching and planning your product. Feast Day events will involve sharing your information and product with the class.
