The Darkest Con of Man – Part 1
g
Da Vincifs gMary Magdaleneh –
Was She Really to be
the Center of the Church?h

Luke 8:1- 3

According to the Dan Brown (Da Vinci Code),

  • Jesus and Mary Magdalene were married.

  • They had a child (Mary Magdalene was pregnant with Christfs child at the crucifixion).

  • Their descendants live today.

  • It was Christfs desire that Mary Magdalene lead the Church, not Simon Peter (or any other male follower). Simon (and the Church) usurped her leadership.

  • The gChurchh has concealed these gfactsh since its inception.

According to the Dan Brown (Da Vinci Code),

  • An arm of the Catholic Church, gOpus Dei,h is presently vested with the secret responsibility of eliminating any evidence of these gfacts,h including the murder of all descendants of Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene and the destruction of any evidence of their genealogy.

  • The gPriory of Sionh is a secret group that has protected the secret relationship of Jesus and Mary Magdalene as well as the existence and whereabouts of their descendants. One day, they will reveal the secret to the world and thereby destroy the Church.

According to the Dan Brown (Da Vinci Code),

  • Leonardo Da Vinci was a member of the Priory of Sion.

  • He left a hidden clue of the gsecreth in his famous painting, The Last Supper. According to Brown, the person to Christfs right is not John, the Apostle, but Mary Magdalene, his wife. This hidden clue is the basis for the title of the Book, gThe Da Vinci Code.h

  • Does it matter whether Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene were actually married?

  • Does it matter if they had a child through their union?

  • NAS Exodus 12:5 'Your lamb shall be an unblemished male a year old; you may take it from the sheep or from the goats.

  • NIV 1 Peter 1:18 gFor you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.h

  • NAS 1 Corinthians 15:16 For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised; 17 and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins.

  • According to the DVC (Da Vinci Code),

  • Leonardo Da Vinci was a member of the Priory of Sion.

  • He left a hidden clue of the gsecreth in his famous painting, The Last Supper. According to Brown, the person to Christfs right is not John, the Apostle, but Mary Magdalene, his wife. This hidden clue is the basis for the title of the Book, gThe Da Vinci Code.h

  • The focal points for todayfs message:

  • The figure in Leonardo Da Vincifs painting, The Last Supper; is John, the Apostle, not Mary Magdalene, as the DVC claims.

  • Jesus Christ rescued Mary Magdalene from the captivity of sin by gdeliveringh her from seven demons. Mary followed Him. She saw Christ as her savior, not her lover. She was never called upon by Christ to lead or otherwise act as a gspiritual goddessh to guide His Church.

  • What we know about Mary Magdalene:

  • She was from gMagdalah (also, gMagadanh), a fishing village on the shore of the Sea of Galilee. Matt 15:39

  • Jesus exorcised her of seven demons. Luke 8:2; Mark 16:9; cf Luke 7:37f

  • She was at the crucifixion along with other women. Matt 27:56; Mark 15:47; John 19:25

  • She was among the women who made their way to the tomb on the day of the resurrection. Matt 28:1, Mark 16:1; Luke 24:10; John 20:1

  • What we know about Mary Magdalene (cont):

  • She was the first person to whom Christ revealed Himself following the resurrection and likely the first to believe that He was resurrected. Mark 16:9; John 20:18;

  • She was one of several women who traveled with the disciples and provided for them out of their own financial resources. Mark 15:40-41; Luke 8:1-3.

  • See Truth and Fiction in the Da Vinci Code, Bart D. Ehrman, p 147

  • What do we know about Maryfs leadership of the Church after the resurrection?

  • She was not present for Christfs giving of the Great Commission. NAS Matthew 28:16 But the eleven disciples proceeded to Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had designated. Mark 16:14; Luke 24:33, John 21:2-3.

  • She was not named as present with the eleven at any time following the resurrection. Acts 1:14; Acts 2:1

  • If it was the intent of the 1st Century Church (as in DVC) to suppress the role of women in the Church, then:

  • Why are women so prominently mentioned in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ? Women were:

  • Probably the first to declare Christ as Son of God. John 11:27, (Martha)

  • Present at the crucifixion (only disciple present was John) John 19:26

  • First at the resurrection; and, first to believe that Christ had risen. (all gospel accounts)
