(Memoir/Biography)

(JULY 2009)


Unit Statement: The student will use, listen to and read memoir and biographical books to determine the difference between the two genre styles. They will also be able to identify characteristics of memoir and search for books that have these characteristics. Students will identify where to locate biographical books in the library.
Essential Outcomes:


  1. The Student Will listen to memoir stories (see below for a list of memoirs).




  1. TSW identify characteristics of memoir.




  1. TSW listen to biographies (see below for a list of biographies).




  1. TSW identify characteristics of biography.

  • lists facts of a person’s life

  • usually has photographs

  • in chronological order




  1. TSW compare and contrast the difference between memoir and biography using a Venn diagram.




  1. TSW locate biographical books in the library.


Introduced Outcomes:


  1. TSW locate picture books in the library and read to identify if the story has the characteristics of a memoir.




  1. TSW determine if the picture book can be a memoir.


Practiced Outcomes:

  1. TSW handle library materials carefully.




  1. TSW follow check-out procedures.




  1. TSW maintain an appropriate quiet environment.




  1. TSW listen attentively.
