FOUNDATION

GUIDE SPECIFICATIONS

for Sealed and Non-sealed Systems; Fan or Convection Cooling, ECM-only, or ECM with Back-up Cooling Module, 120V or 200-240V Single-Phase

Integrated Secure Protection for Electronic Equipment


1.0 GENERAL
1.1 SUMMARY
This specification defines the electrical and mechanical characteristics and requirements for the Foundation product family, a series of adaptive and scaleable electronic equipment support systems. The Foundation is configurable as a basic open rack, or as a Foundation Enclosure. The Foundation Mini Computer Room (MCR) is configurable as an integrated support system with optional Environmental Cooling Module (ECM), or ECM with Back-up Cooling Module (BCM) cooling systems. Foundation Enclosures and Foundation MCR systems are available with optional UPS, optional communications/monitoring systems, and optional receptacle control to protect sensitive electronic equipment. The products shall include EIA-310 standard rack mount rails. The systems are factory assembled, ready for the installation of customer supplied electronic equipment. The Foundation basic open rack and Enclosures are flexible and upgradeable to a comprehensive Foundation MCR integrated support system.
1.2 STANDARDS
The product is designed in accordance with the following agency standards or certifications. Where a conflict arises between these documents and statements made herein, the statements in this specification shall govern.
1.2.1 Foundation Enclosure

    1. DESIGN REQUIREMENTS


1.3.1 Input Power: Input power requirements of the product are as described below.
A. ECM Cooling Options:

All ECM options shall include a 9’/2.7m input power cord.



120VAC nominal, 60Hz ECM: NEMA 5-15R, single-phase 2-wire plus ground 15A dedicated circuit.

230VAC nominal, 50Hz ECM: single-phase 2-wire plus earth 10A dedicated circuit. The 50 Hz ECM plug connection is field supplied and installed.

B. UPS Options:

Foundation systems utilizing both UPS options and ECM cooling options shall require separate dedicated circuits for the UPS and the ECM. UPS input requirements are:



120VAC Nominal

PS1000, PS1440, GXT2-500, GXT2-700, GXT2-1000RT, or GXT2-1500RT: NEMA 5-15R, single-phase 2-wire plus ground 15A circuit.

GXT2-2000RT: NEMA 5-20R, single-phase 2-wire plus ground 20A circuit.

PS2200, PS3000 or GXT2-3000RT: NEMA L5-30R, single-phase 2-wire plus ground 30A circuit.

208VAC Nominal

GXT2-2700RT: NEMA L6-20R, single-phase 2-wire plus ground 20A circuit.

GXT2-6000T: NEMA L14-30R or terminal block, single-phase 3-wire plus ground 30A circuit.

230VAC Nominal

PS1000, PS1440, GXT2-700RT, GXT2-1000RT, or GXT2-1500RT: single-phase 2-wire plus ground 10A circuit.

PS2200, PS3000, GXT2-2000RT, or GXT2-3000RT: single-phase 2-wire plus ground 16A circuit.

230VAC UPS connection is field supplied and installed.


C. No ECM or UPS Options:

The Foundation is configurable with no ECM or UPS options. When the product is configured without these options, the input power specifications are determined by the optional power strip(s) (refer to table), FAN package, and/or user-supplied equipment.


D. BCM Cooling Options:

BCM Cooling Options are factory-installed and connected to the optional UPS. Where UPS options are not selected the input connection are field supplied. The BCM Cooling Options shall require either a 120VAC, 60Hz (NEMA 5-15R) or 230VAC, 50Hz (IEC60320 C14) circuit.


E. ECM Heat Rejection Fan

The ECM Heat Rejection Fan options shall require either a 120VAC, 15A, 60Hz or 230VAC, 10A, 50Hz circuit. The electrical connection is field supplied and installed.


F. ECM Heat Rejection Duct

The ECM Heat Rejection Duct option shall require either a 120VAC, 15A, 60Hz or 230VAC, 10A, 50Hz circuit. This option is supplied with a 15’/4.5m power cord, and NEMA 5-15P plug for 120VAC applications and an IEC320 plug for 230VAC applications.



1.3.2 Environmental Conditions



A. ECM Ambient Temperature Range: The external ambient operating range of the ECM is:

ECM1000L-60, ECM2000L-60: 65oF (18oC) to 105oF (40oC)

ECM1000L-50, ECM2000L-50: 65oF (18oC) to 100oF (38oC)

B. Audible Noise: Noise generated by the Foundation cooling options as measured at 5’/1.5m from the enclosure shall not exceed the following parameters.

C. FAN and XDA Capacities:

FAN1000 provides a fan rated for 114 CFM (60Hz) or 94 CFM (50Hz) for “low noise” option and 235 CFM (60Hz) or 200 CFM (50Hz) for “high ambient” option.
FAN2000 provides two fans each individually rated for 114 CFM (60Hz) or 94 CFM (50Hz) for “low noise” option and 235 CFM (60Hz) or 200 CFM (50Hz) for “high ambient” option.
The XDA module includes five (5) axial fans each individually rated for 200 CFM, and a powder painted (black) enclosure for factory or field mounting on the exhaust side of a Perforated Rear Door option. A quantity of 1 or two modules can be selected per Rear Door. XDA is available as 120-1ph-50/60Hz and 230-1ph-50/60hz.
D. ECM Capacities:

ECM1000 provides adequate cooling to maintain internal Foundation MCR environmental conditions in environments up to 105°F (60 Hz) / 100°F (50 Hz) outside the enclosure, with internal electronics load up to 824 watt total (including UPS).
ECM2000 provides adequate cooling to maintain internal Foundation MCR environmental conditions in environments up 105°F (60 Hz) / 100°F (50 Hz) outside the enclosure, with internal electronics load up to 1647 watt total (including UPS).

E. Clearance Requirements:
  • Foundation MCR systems utilizing rack-mount ECM cooling options shall require a minimum of 1’/0.3m airflow clearance about the front, rear and top of the Foundation MCR enclosure. No side clearance is required.
  • Foundation MCR systems utilizing top-mount ECM cooling options shall require a minimum of 1’/0.3m airflow clearance about the front, rear, top, and each side of the top-mount ECM.
  • Foundation MCR systems utilizing BCM cooling options shall require 1’/0.3m airflow clearance about the rear of the BCM. No side clearance is required.
  • Optional BCM Energy Saver - This option requires 3 feet of clearance in the rear and 2 feet of clearance on the sides of the enclosure.



F. Service Requirements: Foundation MCR systems utilizing ECM cooling options require a minimum of 3’/0.9m clearance in the front of the enclosure to allow for access to and removal of the ECM. No side clearance is required.


2.0 PRODUCT

2.1 FRAME TYPES

Foundation systems are available as standard floor-standing units, or as wall-mountable enclosure systems.


2.1.1 STANDARD FRAMES

The Foundation frame is constructed of heavy-duty 12-gauge steel and equipped with leveling feet rated for 2000 lbs / 907.2 kg. A compression-type grounding lug (1/0 AWG/35mm2 wire max) is provided on the frame bottom and is removable for relocation to the top of the frame as required. Frame components are finished in powder-coat black (Z-0350) and factory rivet-assembled. Cable access / fan openings are located in the top, bottom and rear plates for customer cable entry; cover plates are provided as sealing and cooling options require. Refer to sections 2.2 – 5.0 for standard frame configuration and mounting options. The Foundation frame is available in multiple standard sizes based on combinations of the following nominal dimensions. Usable mounting space is:


Standard Frames:

WIDTH - 19” rack mount (HK & HD Series) or 23” rack mount (RK & RD Series)

HEIGHT – 22U/38.5”/97.8cm, 42U/73.5”/186.7cm, or 46U/80.5/204.5cm

DEPTH – 18.5”/47cm nominal or 26.5”/67.3cm nominal; adjustable as per 2.2.1 below



2.1.2 WALL MOUNT ENCLOSURES

All Foundation Wall Mount Enclosures include 12U adjustable 19” rack mounting rails with square mounting holes, Vented sides and doors, secure latching doors with key lock, eight 2” diameter knockouts for cable access, reversible positioning for left / right hinging, a frame grounding lug, and are power-paint coated black. Wall-Mounting hardware is not included and must be field-provided; hardware selection must account for wall type, enclosure weight and local code requirements. Optional Floor Mounting Feet are available for field-installation to allow a Wall Mount Enclosure to placed on the floor. The option includes a set of rubber four feet and is attached via an adhesive face. Two predefined stocked models are offered: 24x12 Low Profile and 24x24 Hinged Body systems.




  1. The 24x12 Low Profile system’s overall dimensions are 26.5”/67.3cm W (19” rack mount) x 13.3”/33.8cm D x 23.4”/59.4 H. The Low Profile system includes one pair of 12U vertical mounting rails and one pair of 6U side mounting rails; front and side access doors, and is rated to support up to 100lbs/45kg of user equipment. The Low Profile systems are used with “face mount” equipment and options that do not require a front-to-rear rail mounting.

  2. The 24x24 Hinged Body system’s overall dimensions are 24.3”/61.7cm W (19” rack mount) x 26.9”/68.3cm D x 23.6”/59.9 H. The system includes both a front door, and a hinged rear-mounting panel that allows the enclosure to swing-out from the wall for rear equipment access. The Hinged Body system includes 12U of vertical front & rear rack mounting rails; provisions for field addition of FAN1000L/H single cooling fan, and is rated to support up to 175lbs/79kg of user equipment. All internal equipment Mounting Options used in HK (19” rack), 30” depth systems can be applied in the 24x24 Hinged Body system, refer to section 3.0.




    1. Rack Mounting rails – STANDARD FRames

All mounting rails are constructed of heavy-duty 12-gauge steel. The mounting rails shall support the EIA-310 Standard hole mounting pattern, be factory installed in the Foundation Frame and individually field-adjustable to allow for flexibility of mounting depth. The mounting rails shall include top-to-bottom U positioning indicators at one U increments, and be finished in powder-coat black (Z-0350). All Rails include slots on the face that can be used with optional Velcro Straps to organize internal user cabling. Rail options are described below:


2.2.1 Front / Rear Rail Option

The Front / Rear Rail Option shall include 2 pairs of mounting rails (2 sets of 2); each rail fits in a vertical frame member. Each rail is easily adjustable from 18.5”/47cm to 22.5”/51.2cm deep (30” depth frame), or from 26.5”/67.3cm to 30.5”/77.5cm deep (38” depth frame). Additionally, inverting each rail shall allow for mounting depths to 26.5”/67.3cm deep (30” frame), or to 34.5”/87.6cm deep (38” frame). The Front / Rear Rail Option is available with either square-hole or threaded-hole EIA-310 hole pattern (per 2.2.3 or 2.2.4).


2.2.2 Center Mount Rail Option

The Center Mount Rail Option shall include 1 pair of mounting rails (set of 2) to be used in lieu of 2.2.1. The Center Mount Rails can be positioned the full depth of the Frame, and are field-changeable for 19” or 23” rack-mount applications. The Center Mount Rail Option is available with either square-hole or threaded-hole EIA-310 hole pattern (per 2.2.3 or 2.2.4).


2.2.3 Square Hole Option

The Square Hole option shall provide the Rail Option (2.2.1 or 2.2.2) rails with punched square-holes to the EIA-310 Standard hole pattern. The square-hole selection accommodates equipment mounting via optional Clipnuts and Screws.


2.2.4 Threaded Hole Option

The Threaded Hole option shall provide the Rail Option (2.2.1 or 2.2.2) rails tapped with 10/32 threaded holes to the EIA-310 Standard hole pattern. The threaded-hole selection accommodates equipment mounting via optional Screw Packages.



2.3 STANDARD FRAME / ENCLOSURE OPTIONS

The Foundation frame is factory- or field-configurable with optional doors and side panels as an open rack, as a NEMA 1 / IP10 (non-sealed) enclosure, or as a NEMA 12 / IP52 (sealed) enclosure. Foundation enclosures are field-upgradeable to NEMA 12 / IP52 enclosures. Units with NEMA 12 provisions are factory-designated as “HD” or “RD” in the part number. Enclosure doors and panels are finished in powder-coat black (Z-0350). Optional colors are available as per the Standard Unit Colors in the Liebert Color Selector (SL-10010), doors and side panels must be the same color. Overall dimensions of the Foundation enclosure with doors and panels are:

WIDTH – 25”/63.5cm (19” rack mount) or 29”/73.7cm (23” rack mount)

HEIGHT – 42”/106.7cm (22U), 77”/195.6cm (42U) or 84”/213.4cm (46U)

DEPTH – 30.2”/76.7cm or 38.2”/97.0cm
For additional enclosure dimensional information refer to sections 2.3.1.E and 2.3.3.
2.3.1 Doors

The Foundation doors are of 16-gauge sheetmetal construction with air circulation vents at the top and bottom portions of the door. Front Doors are available in Single Door design. Rear Doors are available as either Dual- or Single-Door design. The Dual-Door design, available on HK/RK models (42U and 46U), provides split doors saving opening clearance space. Rear Doors are also available in either Cable Entrance or Full Height designs. The Cable Entrance Rear Door is sized to provide open rear top-and-bottom sections for cable entry and/or rear FAN mounting. All door(s) are removable and all Single-Door designs allow for reversible (left/right) hinging. A four-point latch (42U and 46U) or two-point latch (22U) with key lock is provided for security. The insulation option (refer to 2.3.11) is required on Foundation MCR (HD/RD) “sealed” systems using ECM cooling. Optional variations for the Foundation door are follows:



A. Sheetmetal Front Door is of sheetmetal construction. HK/RK “non-sealed” systems are provided with air circulation vents only at the door top and bottom. Foundation MCR (HD/RD) “sealed” systems with Rack mount ECM shall include a fixed air-intake plate and no air circulation vents.
B. Plexiglas Front Door is of sheetmetal construction with a smoked acrylic scratch and impact resistant insert to allow for external viewing of customer equipment. HK/RK “non-sealed” systems are provided with air circulation vents at the door top and bottom. Foundation MCR (HD/RD) “sealed” systems with optional rack mount ECM shall include a fixed air-intake plate and no air circulation vents.
C. Perforated Front Door is of sheetmetal construction with a perforated sheetmetal insert to maximize ventilation. This option shall not be applicable to Foundation MCR (HD/RD) “sealed” enclosures.
D. Dual Split Rear Door is of sheetmetal construction, in both perforated and solid versions. This option shall not be applicable to Foundation MCR (HD/RD) “sealed” enclosures.
E. Sheetmetal Rear Door HK/RK “non-sealed” systems is provided with air circulation vents located near the top and bottom. On HD/RD systems Sealed Cable Access sections are provided above and below the door (if rack mount ECM is selected the bottom section is used for ECM discharge). Optional insulation is required for ECM-cooled applications.
F. BCM Rear Door is of sheetmetal construction and is required for BCM applications. The BCM option shall not be applicable to 22U height, and adds 3”/7.62cm to overall enclosure depth. Sealed Cable Access sections are provided above and below the door (if rack mount ECM is selected the bottom section is used for ECM discharge). The rear door insulation is supplied for BCM rear door applications.

2.3.2. Side Panels

The Foundation side panels are of 20-gauge sheetmetal construction and are available in either solid or vented versions. Each version is removable from the outside of the enclosure, and also includes internal security provisions to prevent the removal of the side panels. Solid panels, with the insulation option, are required on (HD/RD) “sealed” systems using ECM cooling.


2.3.3 Casters

The Caster option is a set of four (4) non-locking factory installed casters, rated to support 1100lbs/499kg of total Foundation enclosure plus user equipment weight. Casters add 1.5”/3.8cm to overall frame height.


2.3.4 Cluster Kit

The cluster kit shall supply hardware necessary to cluster (gang) Foundation frames or enclosure systems of the same height and depth. Clustered systems are interconnected in the field.


2.3.5 Foundation EX

The Foundation EX Expansion System is a flexible solution to rack-enclosure space and cable problems utilizing a patent pending “Expansion Channel” platform to provide adaptive space for airflow, equipment and cabling support. Cable and equipment mounting options are available to adapt to changing requirements.


2.3.5.1 EX Expansion Channels include a set (left / right) of sheetmetal channels mounted to the front and/or rear of an HK or RK (non-sealed) mounting frame. Available in nominal depths of 2”, 4”, and 6” (1, 2, or 3U horizontal space), the EX Expansion Channel allows for creation of multiple frame depths. Specialized cutouts are provided to support all EX Cable and Equipment Management options.
2.3.5.2 EX Cable Entrances include 2 sets (top / bottom) of EX Cable Management Channels (EX-CMCs) providing cable management into and out of the EX Expansion Channels. The EX-CMCs are sized to fit the associated EX Expansion Channel (1, 2, or 3U)
2.3.5.3 EX Cover Panels are an optional cover to the EX Expansion Channels, maintaining a consistent aesthetic across all enclosures.
2.3.6 Power Distribution

2.3.5.1 Liebert MP Basic Power Strips

The power strip options are factory-installed (10 outlet) or field-installed (8-outlet) in a vertical frame member; the option for one or two strips is available. 10-outlet systems fit in standard mounting frames. All power strips include an input power cord with appropriate input plug connection and appropriate circuit breaker protection.

2.3.5.2 Liebert MP Advanced Power Strips

The Liebert MP series power strips offer monitoring (MP-M) or monitoring and control (MP-C) of individual outlets when interfaced with the OpenComms EM or MP-S Access servers, refer to 2.6.3 and 2.6.4.

2.3.7 External Keyboard Tray

The external keyboard option tray is a swing open sealed sheetmetal enclosure, factory installed on the front door. The enclosure shall include an integral slide-out mouse tray, and may be used to house a user-supplied standard enhanced keyboard. The keyboard tray is accessible via a swing-down door with key-lock latch that opens for access to the keyboard, while keeping the Foundation cabinet sealed. This option cannot be provided on adjacent enclosures, and prevents the reversal of left/right door hinging.


2.3.8 Internal Light

The internal light option is a factory installed rack mount rack lamp to enhance lighting inside the enclosure. The single high intensity lamp is on the end of a 16”/40.6m flexible arm (gooseneck) that provides easy positioning. The Internal Light is available for 120VAC or 230VAC applications.
