Good Evening Ladies and Gentlemen and welcome to the Capitol City Comedy Club’s 31st Annual Funniest Person in Austin Contest!

You are now part of one of the most well-respected comedy contest in the country. We take great pride in providing our local artists this showcasing opportunity, and we consider this contest a substantive pathway for newcomers and veterans alike, to establish themselves and become more vested into the art that is stand-up comedy. Our goal is to expose this cities great talent to top industry executives, talent agents and managers, as well as comedy club bookers, and we do that by having 31 years in the comedy business and being one of the most respected comedy clubs in the country.

Past FPIA winners have been featured on a multitude of Comedy Central’s stand-up shows, “The Late, Late Show,” “Conan,” MTV and MTV2 and many more of your favorite late night TV shows. Winners and finalists have also performed in numerous national and internationally acclaimed comedy festivals like Montreal’s “Just For Laughs” comedy festival – the largest comedy festival in the world, as well as Austin’s own sensation – The Moontower Comedy and Oddity Festival, where FPIA has certainly made its mark. And currently, we are all over-the-top thrilled to see Martha Kelly on Fx’s new hit show “Baskets” starring alongside Zach Galifianakis.

So pick up that pen and notepad and polish up your best six minute set. This is a very exciting time for Cap City and we are very happy to have you with us!

Some housekeeping:

Make sure you pass out your passes to friends and family prior to the night of your performance. Having full houses makes for great shows! For those without passes, tickets are $6 for the preliminary rounds, $8 for the Semi-Final rounds, and $15 for the final night.

Please arrive by 7:30 on the night of your performance and check in at the box office. Make sure you know where you are in the line-up. Each contestant will receive a beer, wine, or well cocktail.

Each comic will have six minutes to perform their material. You will be given a light at 4 minutes into your set. The light means you have 1-2 minutes left in your set. Practice your set and know where you are in your set.

Dress the part. Hoodies are comfortable for sure, but hoodies don’t say “book me!” These sets get watched by industry people all the time – they want to see you at your best and that means dressing the part!

It’s a six minute set—you can do it without a bottle or drink in your hand.

We are very happy to again be supporting our local charities – The Austin Food Bank and The Austin Children Shelter. During the preliminary and semi-final rounds, $1 of every ticket sold will be donated to the Austin Children shelter, and two canned food items will now get you in for ½ price! (it will no longer be free with two canned food donations) Please share this important information with your family and friends.

Make reservations for the Final night early – this is one of our best shows of the year and always sells out!

Our new neighbor ComputerNerdz will be sponsoring this year’s contest by awarding our winner with a brand new laptop computer!

And lastly and most importantly, please mark the date of May 10th as a special night on your calendar when we will honor our friend Andy Ritchie with a special ceremony to name the Cap City lounge.

For more information on any of the above, please feel free to contact Margie at 512-467-2333. BREAK-A-LEG!
