FAMILY ENGAGEMENT PLAN”- NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND


American Way Middle endorses the belief that education is truly governed by a triangular law: student, teacher, and parents. Therefore, in accordance to the guidelines of the state and district plan, we believe positive parental involvement attributes to student academic success and feelings of wholeness and well-being.

PLAN STATEMENT:

It is the policy of American Way Middle to jointly develop a Family Engagement Plan with parents that will establish an expectation for parental involvement.





American Way Middle will encourage the involvement of parents both as individuals and groups to act as advisors, resource people, and coordinators in the following ways:

American Way Middle will promote the capacity for strong parental involvement in the following ways:

  1. To participate on the School Leadership Council, PTSA Organization, Watch DADS, Parent Booster Clubs, etc.

  1. Invite parents for our annual meeting at flexible times (morning, afternoon, and/or evening), where parents are informed of NCLB Title I requirements, our school’s participation in NCLB Title I, and rights of parents to be involved.

  1. Attendance at meetings, workshops, conferences, and instructional activities to educate parents on skills and information needed to help their children to be successful in school.

  1. Develop jointly with parents a School Compact showing how parents, schools, and students share responsibilities.

  1. To use talents and resources to enhance the instructional programs.

  1. Provide a copy of the Family Engagement Plan and School Compact and acquire appropriate signatures.

  1. To attend school events.

  1. Provide a Parent/Student Handbook distributed at registration.

  1. Utilize partnerships with community organizations, adopters, and businesses.

  1. Provide a positive atmosphere at school to make parents feel welcome.

  1. Express ideas and concerns by responding to surveys and other information gathering instruments.




  1. Provide on-going and timely information about parental involvement programs and school activities (Newsletters, Monthly Calendars, School Marquee, Teacher Ease, AWMS website, Lesson Line, Flyers, Letters/Memos, etc.).

  1. Participate in an organized, on-going, and timely way, in the planning, review, and improvement of programs for parent involvement and the Family Engagement Plan and School Compact.

  1. Provide Family Math/Science/Reading opportunities to improve parents’ ability to help with their child’s education.

  1. Utilize Parent Resource Center to coordinate and integrate parent involvement programs and activities.




  1. Provide opportunities for regular and flexible parent meetings to keep parents informed of current events and issues and allow parents an opportunity to provide feedback and suggestions on decisions relating to the education of their children.

  1. Participate in planning, design, and implementation of school improvement projects.

  1. Provide parents with a description and explanation of the curriculum in use at the school, forms of academic assessment used to measure student progress, and the proficiency levels students are expected to meet.

  1. Visit the school and classroom regularly and volunteer their services.




  1. Provide parents with student information, timely progress reports, and information about parent-teacher conferences.
