October 1, 1852 Reuben and Susan Peters gave their children Clara and Henry Peters 142 acres "where we now reside" and all their personal property: cows, sheep, hogs, utensils, etc. The children in return would furnish their parents with "good and sufficient waring (sic) apparel, food lodging and washing will protect attend to them in sickness and in every way to make them as comfortable as their circumstances will admit" both Reuben and Susan made their marks. Notes for BENJAMIN HARTLESS:

Benjamin Hartless Sen. served two tours of duty in the War of 1812. In the first tour of duty he was a substitute for his brother Richard Hartless serving under Captain Thomas Bibbs, Fifth Regiment Virginia Militia. Honorably discharged on August 18, 1814 at Peach Orchard Camp Norfolk. In the second tour of duty he substituted for Jeremiah Shoemaker serving under Captain Isaac Tinsley, Eighth Company, Fourth Brigade on or about the 27th day of November 1814 and continued in actual service for the term of 2 months and 26 days and was honorably discharged on the 23rd day of February 1815 at Camp Carter.
