Notes for JAMES M. SIPPLE:

Reprint from June 14, 1891

James Sipple is one of the oldest members of the Methodist Church at this place. For thirty-three years James M. Sipple has been a devoted member of the church and for the past twelve or fifteen years has held his membership with the Methodist Church of Williamstown. He was born in Grant County in 1820, his father John Sipple and mother Amelia New were natives of Delaware, immigrating to Kentucky and settling on the waters of Eagle Creek, when what is now Grant County was only a magisterial district of Pendleton County. John Sipple was one of the first sheriffs elected in the county after it's formation. James M. Sipple was united in marriage to Mary Whitaker, of Harrison County, December 25, 1842. Three children were born to this marriage, only one of whom is now living. The two oldest boys joined the Confederate army during the late rebellion and died in service. The youngest boy by this marriage is now living with his family in California. Mr. Sipple's first wife died July 16, 1849, in October of the same year he again married, Miss Mary McGuire, of Paris, being his choice. Eight children blessed this last union, all of whom are dead except three, to wit: W. P. Sipple, operating a clothing house at Butte City, Montana, Laughton Sipple, farming at Florence same state and Miss Salie who lives with her father. his second wife died in 1889. In the course of a few weeks Mr. Sipple accompained by his daughter will leave for Butte City, Montana where he expects to spend the remainder of his days with his boys.

Children of JAMES SIPPLE and MARY MCQUIRE are:

i. W. P.7 SIPPLE.

ii. LAUGHTON/LAWTON SIPPLE.

iii. SALLIE SIPPLE.

iv. SIMON MCKENDRY SIPPLE, b. 10 March 1846; m. SARAH FRANCES CLARK, 2 December 1869, Grant Co. KY; William M. Ashcraft bondsman.
