Research and Original Creative Work
My research focuses on how social contextual factors shape underrepresentation in higher educational access, major choice, and degree attainment. In particular, this work examines how malleable high school and college micro-environments (including peers and faculty) and broader macro-contexts (policy, urbanicity, and culture) can differentially facilitate the realization of young people's college and career ambitions, both in the U.S. and internationally.
Program of Research and/or Focus of Original Creative Work
Dr. Lara Perez-Felkner's research examines the social context of schools in relation to adolescents' college and career outcomes. In particular, she focuses on the mechanisms underlying racial-ethnic, class, and gender disparities in postsecondary educational attainment and entry to careers in STEM and other fields in which they have traditionally been underrepresented.
