LESSON NOTES
* You may complete the lesson assignments by copying and pasting the message into a Word document and send your work to me as an attachment. Please title your attachment: lastname.first initial SS20-1.08.

* Very Important: Lessons will be broken into daily chunks of work (i.e. Day 1, Day 2 etc.). This is intended to help you organize your work schedule; however, you do not have to follow it if you have other organization plans. For example, instead of working a little on each course per day you might prefer to select a subject and complete what needs to be done for the week in one day and then select another subject's lesson to complete the following day etc.

Day 1 Ultranationalism and Genocide

Introduction: Please read the following:
Last week...you learned why nations pursue national interests and how other countries are affected in the process. This week you will be looking at what can happened to a nation-state during times of conflict/war. During these time periods leaders of nation-states use strategies to convince citizens to put aside personal heritage/traditions and commit to the nation-states cause and in fact be willing to die for their country. This is called ultranationalism. It occurs when the majority of the citizens of a nation-state believe that their leaders are right in going to war and will dedicate themselves to the war effort in hopes of victory for their country. When this happens...scary things happen around the world and within one's own country...as you will see.
