Class Project #1 Robber Barons or Captains of Industry?



Captains of Industry: Served the USA Positively, created jobs
Philanthropists- giving to charity, founding libraries and museums, built factories, raised productivity, expanded markets.


Robber Barons: built fortunes from stealing from the public, exploiting workers, drained USA of natural resources, bribed public officials.

Task: To Construct your own interpretations on (1) major big business leader in late 19th century America and determine whether history should determine them as Captains of Industry or Robber Barons. You must write in a short one page typed response, do you consider your businessman, a Robber Baron or a Captain of Industry?

Note: You should use other sources besides Wikipedia as it allows anyone to submit entries onto their online encyclopedia.
