Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee” Essay Outline

Paper Topic: For this paper, you will be utilizing the book “Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee” by Dee Brown. You have 4 essay options for this paper, but you must choose 1 (and only 1).

Option #1: Throughout the years, you may have learned about Native American History. The author of “Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee,” Dee Brown, attempted to expose the “dark roots” of Native American history. After reading Brown’s book, outline this paper to include the most surprising aspects of Native American history. CAUTION: DO NOT use first person…You want to create an outline that includes factual information to defend your thesis (no I, ME, MY, etc.)

Option #2: After reading “Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee,” explain the differences in how whites and Indians viewed land ownership and how these two views are in conflict with each other. Explain how the Native American view helped to lead to the removal of the Indians.

Option #3: After reading “Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee,” explain how the willingness of Indians to help struggling settlers actually led to the ultimate removal of the Indians. Give examples of specific tribes which helped whites, only to be removed by the whites at a later date.

Option #4: PICK YOUR OWN TOPIC. After reading the book “Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee,” you can formulate your own topic to write about.
