RESEARCH SKILLS:


Regenerative medicine helps natural healing processes to work faster and better. These technologies and techniques create an environment in which missing or damaged tissue that would not ordinarily regrow in fact regenerates fully. Strategies presently under development include transplants of stem cells, the manipulation of the patient's own stem cells, and the use of scaffold materials that emit biochemical signals to spur stem cells into action. Regenerative therapies have been demonstrated (in trials or the laboratory) to heal broken bones, bad burns, blindness, deafness, heart damage, nerve damage, Parkinson's disease, and a range of other conditions. Work continues to bring these advances to patients.

  • Protein isolation and purification, gel electrophoresis of proteins

  • Isolated organ/tissue bath, compound handling, DNA isolation from whole blood and fresh tissue, PCR with isolated DNA as template and directly from paraffin embedded tissue, DNA electrophoresis, SSCP (single strand conformation polymorphism), heteroduplex, RFLP in detection point mutation, differential PCR, arbitrary primed – PCR, LOH, western and southern blotting, sequencing, gene cloning, cell culture (primary and recombinant cell lines), radioligand binding assays, immuno-histochemistry, immuno-fluorescence etc.

  • RNA extraction from full blood, mononuclear cells, serum, plasma and other fresh human tissue, RT-PCR with extracted total RNA as template, RNA electrophoresis, in vitro transcription, detection of HBV DNA genome by conventional PCR and genotyping of HBV: by type-specific primers (PCR).

  • Tests using COBAS Amplicor by Roche Diagnostics.

  • Simultaneous absolute quantification and genotyping of HBV DNA by Real –Time PCR with TaqMan technology (ABI Prism 7000 Sequence Detection System).

  • Design primers and probes for Real Time PCR using Primer Express Software.

Preclinical and clinical testing the therapeutic effects of different drugs against thyroid cancer (in vitro and in vivo studies)

The roll of BRAF, RAS family genes, VHL and RET/PTC genetic alterations in thyroid cancer (functional studies, in vitro and in vivo)

Diagnostics of viruses: HBV, HCV, HIV etc. qualitative and quantitative testing, genotyping, simultaneous absolute quantification and genotyping of HBV DNA by Real –Time PCR with TaqMan technology (ABI Prism 7000 Sequence Detection System)

Molecular genetics of thyroid carcinoma including hereditary syndromes - MEN-2a,2b, FMTC.

Molecular screening for thyroid carcinoma: RET, BRAF, RET/PTC and application in oncology; including hereditary syndromes - MEN-2a,2b, FMTC and prenatal and preimplantation gene testing (RET, VHL,etc.)
Molecular analysis of PTEN tumor suppressor gene in breast carcinomas (LOH analysis, differential polymerase chain reaction assay for PTEN homozygous deletion Quantitative Methylation-Specific PCR: QM-PCR)
