Basel Ancient Art Fair (BAAF) 2015

12th edition with 18 international exhibitors

For the 12th time the Basel Ancient Art Fair (BAAF) is staged in the Reithalle Wenkenhof in Riehen near Basel from the 13th to the 18th November 2015. This year, 18 exhibitors from Europe and the United States offer a wide range of ancient works of art. The internationally recognised specialists present outstanding objects from classical antiquity, Egypt and the ancient civilizations of the Near East. BAAF is therefore seen as a highlight for art lovers, collectors, museum experts and interior designers from around the world. The artworks on display are sold at prices ranging from under a thousand to over one million Swiss francs. An independent vetting committee examines authenticity, dating, attribution and condition of all objects prior to the opening of the fair.
IADAA Membership

All exhibitors are members of the International Association of Dealers in Ancient Art (IADAA) which has strict guidelines regarding the authenticity and provenance of the items offered for sale. Each exhibitor is required to have art works beyond a value of € 5’000.- checked through the Art Loss Register (ALR). Furthermore, the introduction of the Cultural Property Transfer Act (CPTA) in June 2005 has had a positive effect on the Swiss art trade, making it even more secure and attractive. BAAF is thus the ideal event for buying ancient art.

Guided Tours & Museum Exhibitions

In addition to the interesting range of objects on display, BAAF also offers daily expert-led tours in German. During the weekend also guided tours in English and French.

A visit of the Antikenmuseum Basel und Sammlung Ludwig, Skulpturhalle Basel des Antikenmuseums and of the Fondation Beyeler completes the art experience. These museums either offer free entrance or reduced admission for visitors with a BAAF ticket to their permanent shows and featured exhibits. Noteworthy is the sensational exhibition in the Antikenmuseum Basel “The sunken treasure. The Antikythera shipwreck”, shown for the first time outside of Greece.
Visit BAAF with a Museum Pass

Once again BAAF cooperates with the Museums-PASS-Musées and the Swiss Museum Pass. This allows pass-holders to visit the fair for free and to discover the many fascinating facets of the ancient world.

A renowned Partner Hotel

The prestigious Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois with its exquisite gourmet cuisine, located in the centre of Basel in the picturesque old town on the banks of the river Rhine, will turn a trip to Basel into an unforgettable stay. This Superior hotel is one of the oldest town hotels in Europe and has been a partner of BAAF since 10 years; it provides a special offer for art-loving guests during the fair.

In the context of this partnership the Brasserie Les Trois Rois offers an exclusive dish re-created from original recipes of the Ancient Greek cuisine.
