APUSH Unit Four – The Growth of the United States (1820-1850)
Sandwiched between the early Federal period and the Civil War, the period studied in this unit is often glossed over, or simply treated as the Age of Jackson. However, there were numerous changes in the United States during this time. Not only was a resurgence in the 2-party system seen, but also we saw the U.S. truly become a transcontinental power. This expansion came at a cost, however, as people wrestled with the ramifications of Manifest Destiny and the effects of such rapid growth with many unsettled issues at home.
