IV. Assessment Activities:
Objective #1:
Objective Measured: Demonstrate the skills necessary to find entry level employment in architecture/engineering offices.
Methods of Assessment: A. Survey last 3 years of graduates and regional employers

for job placement.

B. Required portfolios at sophomore level.
Criteria Used to Measure Success: 1. Compare with state and national statistics

2. Review of required portfolios by faculty.


Results: A. Survey in process.

B. CIAT 4304 – Architectural Problems course required each student to

submit a portfolio. Faculty reviewed random portfolios.

Objective #2:
Objective Measured: Apply Creatively in Design (ABET Student Outcome ‘d’)

Methods of Assessment: Comparison of 4 projects


Criteria Used to Measure Success: 1. Design Grading Rubric

2. Images archived


Results: CIAT 7306 – Architectural Studio III course used.

The consistent use of a Design Rubric enabled comparison from

peer to peer and chart individual progress in design skills.

Objective #3:
Objective Measured: Function Effectively in Teams (ABET Student Outcome ‘e’)

Methods of Assessment: Group Work Rubric


Criteria Used to Measure Success: Group Work Rubric Evaluation

( included participatory evaluation for each student)


Results: CIAT 7306 - Architectural Studio III was used for evaluation in 2003 and used l

again for 2004 to develop comparative baseline. Continued success,

students felt there was participation on the teams due to the evaluation

process. Evaluation instrument dropped the grade portion, it was felt by the

department that students would grade each other very high.

Objective #4:
Objective Measured: Respect for Diversity (ABET Student Outcome ‘j’)

Methods of Assessment: Americans with Disabilities Act Project


Criteria Used to Measure Success: Report on Accessibility Analysis

Results: CIAT 4003 – Architectural Professional Practices course used for report.

Lectures and project devoted to handicapped accessibility issues

in the physical environment.


Objective #5:
Objective Measured: Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in oral, written,

and graphically in both personal and group environments.

Methods of Assessment: A. Project presentations in every studio type course and others

as appropriate.

B. Writing assignments in Studio I, Studio II, Studio III and

Studio IV.


Criteria Used to Measure Success: Writing rubric used for evaluation..

Results: CIAT 7306 – A. Feedback from visitors evaluated.

B. Writing evaluated and changes proposed for Fall 2005

assignments.



V. Changes Made to Program or Services as a Result of Findings:


  1. Portfolios will be required for curriculum changes from 322 curriculum to 640.

Changes to courses may occur after surveys are returned from graduates and employers.


  1. Expanded Design Grading Rubric for Studio I, Studio II, Studio III and Studio IV

courses.


  1. Expand Group Work Rubric use to additional courses.

  2. No changes.

  3. A. Effective Speaking course required for all 322 and 640 students effective Fall

2005.

    1. Required Directed Study Pilot course – “Thesis Prep” in Fall 2005 in conjunction with Technical Writing course.
