Introduktion
Dette er en kontrakt-aktivitets pakke (KAP) om USA. Materialet indeholder forskellige opgaver til hvert emne.
Du skal lave en opgave til hver ”TASK” på dit niveau, men du må selv bestemme hvilken.
I skal arbejde i grupper af 2, 3 eller 4 medlemmer.
Når du har arbejdet med alle emner, kan du følgende:


  • vise USA’s beliggenhed på et kort

  • kende 15 forskellige stater og deres hovedstæder

  • kende 3 seværdigheder og fortælle om dem i detaljer

  • vide hvor mange indbyggere der er i USA og i hovedstaden

  • nævne navn og parti på præsidenten og navn på det andet store parti i USA

  • fortælle om et emne inden for amerikansk ungdomskultur

  • have lært 20 nye engelske (amerikanske) gloser

Under arbejdet skal du løbende få godkendt dine opgaver af læreren på kontrakten på næste side.

  1. Download a map of the 50 states. Pick 5 states and write the most important info about the states on the map. Size, population and capitol etc.

Tourism is of great importance to America and each year this industry brings in trillions of dollars. But America is a large country and it can sometimes be difficult for visitors to figure out what to see when visiting the country. This is where you come into the picture.


Choose one of the following activities.

  1. Make a PowerPoint that presents a program for a city tour of a major American city. The program must include: sights to see, places to eat and how you get around in the city.

Show the PowerPoint to your teacher and tell about the places you mention.

  1. Draw the attractions around the country. Your map must include at least 20 well known and 10 lesser known attractions.

Show your map of attractions to your teacher and tell about the attractions.

  1. Make a collage on the computer showing the top 10 attractions to see in America. Be sure to include a few facts about the attractions also.

Show your collage to your teacher and tell about the attractions.

Task 6. Living “The American Dream”

“The American Dream” is a well known concept in America. Most Danish people have heard of the concept, but do not really understand what it means to live “The American Dream”. You have to find out now!


Find two famous American persons and two foreign persons (or one for each group member) that you want to work with. The persons you choose must live or have lived “The American Dream”
Choose one of the following activities.

  1. Make a PowerPoint presentation where you explain what “the American Dream” is. Also present the persons. Remember photos! Explain why you have chosen these persons and why they live “The American Dream”.

Present the PowerPoint to your teacher.

  1. Each group member writes a text where he or she tells about “The American Dream” and a famous persons (different ones!). Also explain why you have chosen these persons.

Hand in the text to your teacher.

  1. Make a role play with your group members where you play the famous persons. Each person must introduce him/herself to the others, and tell something about his/her life. Also explain why you live “The American Dream”

Act out the role play for your teacher.

Imagine that you have been employed as a news reporter at the American TV station CBS. You are about to make a 1 minute sound recording. Write down your speech and read slowly, loudly and clearly. You are free to choose which news you would like to record. But your recording should include news within the following topics:

Make a glossary with at least 20 words you have learned by working with the USA. Some of the words can be from the TV series you talk about in task 9.

Hand in the glossary to your teacher.



Task 9. TV series and teen culture in America
America has been a major supplier of the television series that young people watch in Denmark. Let’s find out what these TV series tell us about teen life and teen culture in America.
Typical teen TV series from America are: Beverly Hills 90210, Dawsons Creek, Glee, Blue Mountain State, Smallville, Jersey shore, The hills, One tree Hill and plenty more, but all of you probably know more about this than we do;-)

Some of these TV series are available on various websites for example MTV!


Choose one of the following activities.

  1. Make a PowerPoint about two TV series from America that you think tell an interesting story about teen life in America. Include the following:

Present the PowerPoint to your teacher.

  1. Make a role play over the TV series that you have picked. Your role play must be about a typical theme that young people in America deal with. Your role play should include the following:

  • An introduction that describes the situation and the theme that you have picked.

  • The role play

  • A conclusion about what your role play tells us about teen culture in America

Act out the role play for your teacher.

  1. Compare a Danish TV series with an American TV series about teen life. Make a PowerPoint of the comparison that includes:

  • An introduction to the TV series you have picked

  • A discussion about differences and similarities, genre, theme, actors and culture etc.

  • A conclusion

Present the PowerPoint to your teacher.
