Student Objective: I will write a 5 paragraph essay analyzing and explaining how the New Deal both solved and created problems for the nation in the 1930s.

Task: Using the information from the documents and your knowledge of the New Deal (from the text and your booklet that you created), write a 5 paragraph essay in which you explain how the New Deal both solved and created problems for the nation in the 1930s.

Write a well-organized essay that includes an Introduction, 3 Body Paragraphs, and a Conclusion. In the body of your essay, use evidence from at least 4 documents. Support your response with relevant facts, examples, and details. Include additional information from the text (Chapter 9), if this helps to support your response.

Please complete the Outline/Graphic Organizer below before writing your essay. This exercise will help you to organize your thoughts and essay structure.

  1. Introduction Paragraph: Introduce the topic of the New Deal and give some factual background information:

Within his first 100 days in office, FDR executed his first New Deal, establishing programs aimed to bounce this nation back into the realm of past prosperity.

Then, create your thesis sentence: With the New Deal, both solutions and problems developed. With information from Documents 1-7 and Chapter 9 of the text, it is evident that the New Deal caused more ___________________ than ________________.

  1. Body Paragraph #1: Discuss specific examples of how the New Deal solved problems for the nation: (Remember to cite specific evidence from the documents and/or Chapter 9 of your text!)
