3. India, Israel to intensify counter terrorism coordination-India and Israel agreed to intensify coordination to deal with the menaceof terrorism and discussed a wide-range of bilateral and regional issues.

1. Govt inducted new category of award for “Most Film Friendly State/UT”- To promote the Indian film industry and India’s “Soft Power”, Govt has instituted a new award category under the National Film Awards titled “The Most Film Friendly State/UT”.

1. For the 9th succession Lalu Prasad Yadav designated as RJD Chief- Former railway minister, Lalu Prasad Yadav (67) was elected as president of his party Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) for the ninth consecutive term. He has been elected for the period of 3 years.

2. Mindtree appoints Ravanan as CEO, Natarajan as executive chairman- Mindtree (IT firm)appointed Rostow Ravanan as its CEO and Managing Director and current chief Krishna Kumar Natarajan moved on to the role of Executive Chairman with co-founder Subroto Bagchi stepping down from the position.

1. Delhi government launches DVAT BILL app to boost tax collection- Deputy Chief Minister Manish Siodia launched ‘DVAT BILL‘ App to boost Delhi Government’s tax collection and bring in transparency and through this App, people can become a “VAT Inspectors”.

Health Ministry releases results from 1st phase of HFHS-4 survey- The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare released the results from the first phase of theNational Family Health Survey (NFHS-4), 2015-16. These are available on Ministry’s website, www.mohfw.gov.in. Findings for the 13 States of Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Goa, Haryana, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Tripura, Uttarakhand, West Bengal and two Union Territories of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Puducherry.

  2. R V Easwar Committee’s report to simplify Income-tax Act, 1961 released- Union Ministry of Finance has released the draft report of 10 member committee headed byJustice R V Easwar (Retd) Committee to simplify the provisions of Income-tax Act, 1961.

  3. National Tariff Policy for Electricity gets nod from Cabinet- The Union Cabinet approved the “National Tariff Policy for Electricity” aimed at tightening regulations for setting power rates and promotion of clean energy in a support to Swachh Bharat programme.


  4. Project Green Ports” launched to Reduce Pollution- Union Ministry of Shipping launched the “Project Green Ports”, which is aimed at reducingthe pollution levels at ports and managing the sewage treatment at ports.

  5. Gadkari to inaugurate 19th National Conference on e-Governance-Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways and Shipping Shri Nitin Gadkari will inaugurate the 19th National Conference on e-Governance to be held in Nagpur, Maharashtra.

  6. Telangana to introduce Course Credits for students- Telangana Government is set to introduce ‘Course Credits’ in Secondary education for students to take part in certain programmes, from the next academic year. These will add up as they move on to higher classes.

  7. Bihar Government approves 35 per cent job reservation for women- Bihar Government has approved 35 per cent reservation for women in government jobs in the state including reserved and unreserved category.

  8. Maharashtra government inks MoU with Tata Trust for skill training of youth- The Maharashtra government and Tata Trust signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for a skill training programme for the youth. The programme has been undertaken under the state government’s “Kushal MaharashtraRojgaryukt Maharashtra” initiative.

INDIA has emerged as one of the five most promising markets for businesses globally as it offers one of the best opportunities for both domestic as well as global companies.

  2. 4 Indian Magnificoes among World’s 62 Super-Rich- As per a report by UK-based charity Oxfam titled “An Economy for the 1%”, the wealthiest 62 people now own half of the world’s population (3.5 billion people). The report highlighted the global inequality. Among those affluent 62, there are four Indian names: Industrialist Mukesh Ambani, IT titan Azim Premji, pharma boss Dilip Shanghvi and business magnatesHinduja Brothers.

  3. IMF retains India GDP forecast at 7.5% for 2016- The International Monetary Fund (IMF) kept India’s growth projection unchanged at7.3% in the current fiscal and 7.5% in the next. India would continue to grow at a “robust pace”.

  4. World tourism numbers hit record 1.18 billion in 2015- As per Madrid headquartered United Nations World Tourism Organisation, the number of international tourists rose by 4.4% worldwide in 2015 to hit a record 1.18 billion despite concerns over terrorism.

  6. CCEA approves 5000 MW of Grid-connected Solar PV Power Projects- Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has given its nod for setting up over 5,000 MW of Grid-Connected Solar PV Power Projects on build, own and operate basis.

Union Government notified stricter standards for Sugar Industry to minimize water pollution- Union Ministry Environment, Forest and Climate Change had notified stricter environment rules for sugar industries in various states of the country to minimize water pollution. The revised norms will lead to improved operational performance of Sugar industry through accomplishment of wastewater discharge and conservation standards and pollution control management protocol.

MSDE and DoT sign MoU for skill development in telecom sector- On the sidelines of PM’s vision to make India the skill capital of the world, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) inked MoU with Department of Telecommunication (DoT) for the implementation of National Action Plan for Skill Development in Telecom Sector.

Denmark crowned as “World’s Best Country for Women”- In accordance with the “2016 Best Countries” ranking by US News and World Report, Denmark has made it to be at the top of the list of world’s best country for women to live in. Haryana signs 8 MoUs in China on smart-cities etc- Haryana Government signed eight momentum of understanding (MoUs) with top companies of China to set up a USD 10 billion industrial park and smart cities in the state. These MoUs were signed with top Chinese companies like Wanda Group, China Land Development Company Private Limited, and ZTE Corporation.

India’s first BUR submitted to UNFCCC- Under the guidelines of Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), India submitted its first Biennial Update Report (BUR) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) reporting the emission of 2,136.84 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent greenhouse gases in 2010.

  4. India’s largest and tallest Tricolour unfurls in Ranchi- On the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, the tallest and largest Indian national flag was hoisted in Ranchi. The flag was unfurled by defence minister Manohar Parrikar, which measures 99×66 feet and is pegged atop a flag post 293 feet high.

India, Bahrain to strengthen ties in trade, counter-terror- India and Bahrain signed an agreement to strengthen their ties in key areas like trade and counter-terrorism. The India-Arab League Cooperation Forum meeting was held in Bahrain. The meeting was held between the Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa.

  4. Japan lifted nuclear sanctions on Iran- Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga approved the lifting of sanctions on Iran. This move will allow Japanese companies to pursue investment in Iran’s oil and gas industry.
